Sengoku's lines are brilliant action-flick badass tough-guy literature. "Hey why don't you buy me dinner?" "Because I'm tired and pissed off, and you're a cop and I'm a con, and because it's raining and I forgot my umbrella and most of all, I'm broke."
I find it kind of interesting actually, how the robot is forced to compute the constant flow of animosity. Usually in sci-fi, you see humans trying to find ways to properly communicate things like emotions towards robots so that they are at least both on the same page when it comes to whatever common objective they might have. The nature of this dub obviously has fun with this concept, basically throwing it out the window and is like "Hey you tin can piece of shit, why can't you use all that computing power and acknowledge when you should go fuck yourself?"
Yeah because all the LAMA's of recent years were true pieces of art with much respect for the source material. I really need a diversified cast and femoid writer power fantasy inserts in my classic 90s cyberpunk anime. And also real actors and backdrops for a medium that's mostly interesting because cell animation is an art form in itself which means half of it will just cheap video game cutscene tier CGI anyway. No thanks.
The attention to this dub is astonishing. All three lead VAs really go to great lengths when their characters are jumping, hitting things or feeling pain to make them seem more “real”. Go listen to Sengoku when he’s being electrocuted and stabbed by Amachi in episode 1.
The Three Stages of my Experience with the Cyber City Oedo 808 Localization: 1) This is so cool, Sengoku is such a badass 2) This is one of the worst dubs I have ever heard, no standards, almost nothing to do with the original script 3) The English dub of Cyber City Oedo 808 is a transcendant piece of art that disregards the concept of "accuracy" in order to establish itself as a work entirely separate from the original
@@CerealKiller *i did notice that the one english dub episode of the series that i have had a LOT more profanity in it than the others...which is curious as it did not really contribute to the overall context of the narrative as presented (at least in my opinion)...true the one character for which this was the most obvious it did kinda sorta make more sense but it was still a bit much even then*
It's 15ing, a thing some anime dubs did back then. Worried your series might get a low rating, the equivalent of a PG or something, causing it to be viewed as kiddie stuff? Add a lot of superfluous profanity to punch it up! Sometimes doing so was entirely unnecessary, as seen here or in the Devilman dub.
I've never seen this, but im guessing the story is that it's about a guy with a bomb implanted in his brain that will explode unless he curses every third word.

Probably a decent chat up line aswell for lets go on a date, lol.
I almost forgot we once had male characters like this. Miss those days.
Easily one of the best english dubs out there for the time.
This and Devilman the Birth lol
"Don't worry if the gun goes off you aint gonna know fuck all about it"
legendary
Because I’m Tired, and Pissed off,
And You’re a cop, and I’m a con,
And because it’s Raining, and I forgot my Umbrella,
And Most of all I’m Broke.
beatiful
Sengoku talks to Varsus the same way I talk to my phone when it’s being slow 💀

fucking legendary
This looks like Hideo Kojimas Snatcher had a love child with Deadpool and I love it.

"Cheer up gentlemen you're going to be flat mates together"
"Well I'd like to think about it, I hate being pressurised"
Makes me laugh everytime 🤣
this is one case where the english dub improves the anime. thanks for posting sen-goku's greatest hits.
The one time you can happily state; dub > sub
unless youre one of those people
What? No typical examples like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood?
Don't forget about Ghost Stories.
@Michael Zhu
Ha, nice joke but then again TH-cam commenters can say almost anything no matter how stupid it sounds.
@@civilwarfare101 I wouldn’t say the FMA dub is better than the sub, and having Light Yagami playing the MC is annoying in Black Lagoon
So, Sengoku’s finest moments are all of Sengoku’s moments.
Sengoku has a way with words that makes Shakespare and Hemingway look like 2-dime airport shop material.
100x better than the subtitled version.
This is the best actually.
what an 80s action hero!
Maybe THIS is what needs a live action movie adaptation
@TheMaidofMiddleEarth I think you can pretty much just straight adapt it maybe less cursing but "way past your bedtime motherfuck" MUST be in there

SENGOKU. IS. THE. MAN.
At 3:25 Benton disappeared lol
LMAO WTF
Hope he doesn't crep his pants if he sees a vampire out deah
I can see where Space Dandy got his hair from.
I don't usually watch dubs, but this will always be timeless 🤣
The OG Travis Touchdown
Also, I love how so many here are arguing over the maturity of the dialogue and can barely spell or write complete sentences in English
Sub: cheesy but enjoyable sci-fi action anime that was dime a dozen back then
Dub: comedy gold
nowadays anime dubs try to add memes to it.
back then, the dub was worthy of becoming one.
Back then, the dubs unintentionally became memes years later
Masterpiece.
Very gritty film. Especially the dialogue.
That man liked to say the "F" word. He liked to say the "F" word *a lot*

Can't believe this dub was before Archer or Rick and Morty
Varsus, gimmie the Magnum
Hes got an awsome car so dies the guy with white hair.
Lmao another take on the
1:12 "to err is human" i guess

Pretty accurate
1:17--A.I. in a nutshell.
gogle is a fkn boss
I love seeing Griffith (from Berserk) in this movie.
It's like it was written by a 13 year old that watched a tarintino movie for the first time.
don't recall the sub-titled versions being this so fluent in profanity...rather distracting in my opinion

hahahahahahahahahahahaha, imagine if this video was censored, that would be 5:24 minutes of beeeeeeps
I wonder why 4Kids never picked up this one? It could have been awesome! 😈
You two have pretty good points.

SUPERB LMFAO.

4:12 😂😂😂
This reminds me of the old devilman dub
Same dub company
It just clicked that maybe Sengoku was calling him VarsASS on purpose as opposed to the actor getting the name wrong?!

I can't tell if this is terrible or brilliant.
Shickinfly rhis is legit a really good show. And the japanese version is nothing like this. But the dub is comedy gold.
It's both
Both. The original show was one of the blandest things possible dialogue wise. The dub adds a lot of character!
Terribly brilliant
@@Aussie_Tom Brilliantly terrible
BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP
good old times when anime was manly, not modern slobbery crap
lol nah
right. shit wen't downhill pretty fast in a dacade or two.
Cringe
Cringe
@TheMaidofMiddleEarth lmao. Keep that "insecure" bullshit manipulation to yourself, snowflake
I cant do that starfox....
Woah didn't know vivziepop made an anime
Why was this recommended to me?
Old anime dubs were something else...
Either they were great, decent, or so bad that their enjoyable, or just so bad that their unbearable to hear
