I use a fine sharpie and write down the shade names at the bottom of the pan. That way I always know what it is even if I move it around from palette to palette.
Great video but did you know that now Amazon sells the little tins with the magnetic pans already inside ready to go for 9.99? Cheaper and less work that having to put them together. Especially if you have to order pans and tins anyhow.
Am I seeing right? Your burnt umber looks purple? Great idea! I have bought half pans from people so I can try out colours without having to spend a lot. It’s a good idea to add the names on the outside of the half pans, then if you lose your search chart you always know what colours you have!
I use a fine tip sharpie and label every half pan with manufacturer and color name. I keep swatches in a binder with pigment information, although I’m not averse to making swatch cards for the palette.
Oils truly never fully dry out so you’d be good! But you can’t use oils in a travel sketchbook or art journal because of that factor so I’m not sure a travel oils kit would even work for that reason? And not for the palette reason.
I have ordered tins and 1/2 pans. I would love to do 12 colors for a little gift for some artist friends. Do you have a recommendation of 12 basic colors for doing these little palettes. Thanks!
spraying the card with a sealer is a great idea, the first time I used my new Daniel Smith palette I made the over spray from the water bottle to activate made all my writing run 🙁. Now I can’t read the names.
I have used plastic bottle caps instead of half-pans.
Ooh, good tip Judith!
I need a Bob Ross tiny tin....great idea! TYFS ♥️
You definitely do, Mary!
What an awesome idea! Thank you for sharing👌🙂
You're welcome, Donna!
I have some little halfpans somewhere! I'm going to dig them up!!! I also have a new set of Brea Reese watercolors 21 PC, that I haven't opened yet!!
You definitely need to find them!
I use water bottle caps instead of the half pans.
Great idea!
WoW TY!!!!! This is AWeSome!!!!!!

Have so much fun with your travel palette, Kathryn!
Wow, love this idea. I’m going to try this and get out there for some plein air painting. Something I’ve always wanted to try.
That sounds amazing!
Awesome tut Karen! I've also heard people use tic tac to stick down the pans.
Oh, cool tip! Thank you!
Tic tac are lollies, you mean blue/white tack 🤗🤗🤗
I love this idea!! Thank you!
I'm so glad, thanks for watching, Cheryl!
Love it my friend thanks for sharing with us💓💓
So glad you love it!
Also, you could glue the magnet strip piece to the half pan!
Great idea!
Great video! Loved it!
Thanks, Debbie!
Omg! I’m going to spray my watercolor swatch cards! I’d never thought of that before!
Yay, have fun with it Sherry!

I just reversed the names by accident! No biggie! I screw up all the time 😂
@@KarenCampbellArtist lol it’s all good!😜

Karen...any advice on doing this for oils? Travel kit? Think they'll dry out?

No, but I have some recommendations for new friends tho 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️ 😂
They are all listed in the description box!
I use poster sticky tack from the dollar store.
Great tip, thanks!

Oh no, that's such a bummer!
If you laminate it, it protects it and you can still use the space to mix colors. 😊
