That CAT 988F Wheel Loader is what most of the saw mills up here in my area to carry logs from the log yard inside the plant. They also use a slightly smaller version of it to load drops of lumber onto the flatbeds leaving to the hardware stores and construction sites.
I remember those 641 caterpillars at the Durham city dump when I was a kid coming through there burying the trash, always thought that's kind of cool and weird that thing twisting and turning coming up through there

The hightrack protects the final drive housing from impact damage, that was the idea at least. No other manufacturers followed suit. I think Cat is going back to conventional rails with the smaller dozers. Our new 6's are lowtrack.

Hey I've always wondered what's the difference between the one dozer with the regular type flat tracks and the dozer with the arched up back tracks
I've ran both kinds and to me its suspension..high tracks are alot more comfortable..Its also a traction thing..
