This is the only robust answer to the riddle I've encountered because as you said you don't need to make extra assumptions about the guards knowledge of each other like in the mainstream answer. Nice!

    Let me simplify the solution...
There can be only 2 cases of what the person to whom you ask the question guards. Either he guards the heaven or hell.
    1)
In first case that is the person to whom you ask the question guards heaven
You are asking : Do the other person say ,whether your door leads to heaven ? He says No , if he himself is a true person
    Else says No
So you pick up the same door
2)In the second case , that is the person to whom you ask the question guards hell
You are asking : Do the other person say ,whether your door leads to heaven ? He says Yes , if he himself is a true person
    Else says Yes
So you pick up the other door
So , idea is you fix the destination about which you ask, here we fixed heaven and based on the reply.
No implies you can choose the same door .
Yes implies you can choose the other door.

This is not really a simplification as some ideas got lost, maybe it further explains the part that you understand

What about the question, "If tell me that the door you guard leads to Heaven and you lie will you cut your throat?" This then adds another level to the rationale. If K1 answers honestly, you have your answer. If K2 lies, based on his action (bound by the question), you have your answer.

Its not said that the guards can perform actions?

“If I was to ask knight 2 which door leads to Heaven, which would they say?”
This commonly accepted (question) solution is not guranteed. The riddle is flawed because it assumes that the Lies knight gives definite answers. They could say I don’t know / maybe that door / other nonsense, which would lead the Truths knight to also answer I don’t know. Which leads to the problems, do the knights understand which ones lies or speaks the truth? How do we come to understand the rules of this riddle? Is the room clear of all hints such as burn marks, nail scratches, previous riddle-solvers clues, etc?
The riddle changes with different variations as well. Some say the door to Hell is Death and the door to Heaven is some kind of Paradise. Others say you are already dead and these doors are the gates to Heaven / Hell. Which may not sound like a big difference but one setup could mean there’s a time limit to you being stuck solving this riddle. The other setup can make you question your own mortality because if YOU ARE DEAD, then do you have the need to eat, feel pain, make bodily improvements? For example, are there others who die and must come to that room to solve the riddle?
Basically, it’s a 50/50 chance, not terrible odds at all. Just pick a door and if you made the right choice or not won’t matter because indecisiveness never gets you anywhere anyways.

You must be joking, there was one good point here is that the knights need to know each other in the classic solution but dont in the new solution. The other objections are not interesting, one could also require lots of pointless other clarifications too but where would that get you?

    • @kxi._.5765
      @kxi._.5765 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Dr Michael S since most people "figure out" these riddles by just hearing the solution from someone else, understanding those pointless clarifications could change whether there's something at stake or not (if you're already dead/don't feel pain/dont hunger, why care where you go) or how much time you can take to figure out the solution on your own.
"If I were to ask you, 'which door leads to heaven,' what would you say?"
This solution has the same issue with the possibility of the liar not giving definite answers. The liar always lies, so the liar could argue that they don't know which door leads to heaven, that I cannot answer that, that both lead to hell, or it doesn't matter which door I tell you, you will be happy with either door.

@@kxi._.5765 I still think you're missing the point completely. The existence of this riddle is to highlight an interesting idea of logic, the other issues you raise are mostly uninteresting. I did actually come up with the answer myself and I feel if you really understood it, you wouldn't dwell on these other trivialities

Say theyre not called knight one or two. Theres no name for the knights. How would you frame the question then?

    • @drmichaelsunsschoolformath
      @drmichaelsunsschoolformath  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can certainly define names for them. I mean you could refer to them with a long description, which would be awkward but still logically correct

I can explain it to people who are dumb like me quickly, the reason why this works is one of the knights is a liar (and remember the liar has to lie) so by knowing that this person HAS TO LIE (so he can not be deceiving by telling the truth). That's why it works.
I'm my mind the liar could choose to tell the truth as a deception (like in real life), but, in make belive land the rules must be followed.

The lying knight would have no reason to double the lie because you don’t know which knight is which the lying knight could simply say the evil door is the good door when you ask which the good door is because this would be a lie, and because You don’t know which knight is which you wouldn’t have a real answer

There are 4 scenarios and they are 1 ) Knight 1 could be truth speaker and he is guarding heaven 2 ) Knight 1 could be a liar and he is guarding heaven 3 ) Knight 1 could be a truth speaker and he is guarding hell and 4 ) Knight 1 could be a liar and he is guarding hell. The classical answer works out for all the 4 scenarios. But, i think, your answer only works out 1 or 2 scenarios!!

Unfortunately you did not understand, the puzzle does not depend on which guard stands at which door, they don't even have to guards!

    Let my name be X
And ask a question what is my name X or Y
    Liar will say Y
    Truth will say X
According to first guard answer you will find that which guard is a liar and which one tells truth and to 2nd guard I will ask which doos is this and after that you will find that what is the door of freedom

Again, there is 1 question for 1 guard only, not 1 question for each guard. As soon as you ask, “what is my name?” you will be out of questions and not able to figure out a guranteed answer for which door leads to death or paradise.

+Michael S : The thing asking the question which leads to heaven is a loaded and mundane question within itself because no soul is going to heaven....heaven is coming here to Earth according to the scriptures Yahushua the Messiah will reign here on Earth for a thousand years and then the heavenly father Yahuah drop the new city of Jerusalem, so I wouldn't even begin to think about playing that game if you are a spiritual person of the Holy Bible...... deception that's all that game is about and it's not worth playing games with your Soul Salvation. Shalom my Gentile Brother.
