Yes. Chevy with the corvette, Porsche with the 911, Ford with the Mustang, and up to 5 years ago, Nissan (before financial troubles) with the GTR- have maintained that rarity for sure. Maintaining a nameplate/model and truly updating it with each new generation. 👏👏👏
@@ELY3358 Skyline GTR was the "Corvette" of Japan. It wasn't some high end/out of reach car, it was affordable in a working man's life. Used to be around 4.5 million to 5 million yen to get one. Basically equal to the $30,000-35,000 Americans would be spending on a C4/C5 Corvette around the same time. The GTR after the Skyline, that thing inflated to nearly 14 million yen. Price of a 911 Carrera.
I grew up with corvettes in my family and I will forever love them. My dad and my uncle both had 67 and a 68 vette. And recently we sold our c5. They really are special and unique
I want to see one with a BEV drive train like the Tesla Model S Plaid. All GO and Corvette SHOW and sportiness and handling. If they get serious about it, they could beat the Tesla Roadster to the market. A Corvette with sub-2 second 0-60 times and 4-wheel drive would be awesome, and potentially much more reliable and practical than a turbocharged V8, especially in everyday use. With the upcoming higher energy density batteries from CATL, the ability to produce such a car is now feasible. It’s not like the ZR1 V8 is ever going to be used in any other Chevrolet, since it’s too expensive and too gas guzzling.
Corvette has been my dream car, outside of the classic 60s Impala design, that sleek design, the angles, the headlights, the engine, the power in affordability. I dream still if I ever financially could recover is to get a 2009 zr1, something about it felt like the culmination of generations of refinement. Been bored watching your videos, always nice to find someone who respect the history and cultural aspects.
This is one of thre most beautiful videos you made. I really, really enjoyed it and it also gave me a lot of relief to see all the brilliant people behind the Corvet that as innovators went through years of being misunderstood
I bought a 1993 auto c4 in 2022 and have put about 15k miles on it since then. I picked the c4 because even though I could afford a beat c5 I could get a super clean late c4 for the same price. I drive it everyday & it’s incredibly reliable. It’s like the old Porsche I always wanted but I can fix it at auto zone.
The only real problem I have with the Corvette which is a blessing and a curse for GM is the limitations on other GM performance cars. Sure some of the best tech ended up being used in other Chevys and GM cars but in detuned versions so as not to compete directly against Corvette sales. The Camaro is a good example. It had some of the same engines as the Corvette but would come with lower compressions or restricted exhaust systems so it couldn't be as fast. During the 60s only the Corvette could have multiple carburetors or 427 cubic inch V8s.
@@BBC42618 yenko was factory made in 69, ZL1 and copo both factory made all arriving to the dealerships from the factory that way. That makes them a factory car. The 427 was an option in the corvette as well. The z/28 could have dual carbs as well.
Had a C6 for 10 years. Loved it. Used it in Dubai for almost a year, then shipped to UK and used for a couple of years, then shipped to Korea and used for 5 years back to UK and sadly had to sell as I could not take it to Australia. Great fun.
Corvette was the marque of choice last year at Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival, and the prototype Corvette was there. It is a gorgeous car, for sure, smaller than expected and still quite well appointed. The original engine was a real turd, but today you would consider swapping that straight 6 as sacrilege. Those race prepped vettes are still out there and still gorgeous and that v8 on the track is an amazing sound
Also, next year's Grand Prix Festival in Watkins Glen marque of distinction is Porsche, if you want to show up there and get footage of a hundred Porsches of all ages that would be the time. Friday after labor day. There will also be the SVRA weekend at the track, surely lots of Porsches there too, next September
Agreed the c2 was and is just a milestone for manufacturing. It's the almost equivalent of putting a man on the moon. Absolutely a huge jump forward for GM. The jump from c1 to c2 is just incredible. I don't think the c8 is the first turbo Vette. Maybe the first standard equipped turbo.
I'm of the same opinion as Zora, I don't care for the split window on the '63 either because of how it hampers rear visibility through the mirror. If you're gonna drive fast, you want to keep an eye on who's behind you as much as what the road ahead is doing.
it was partially inspired by the cars GI's brought back from Europe after World war II like MG s Spitfires etc. the Corvette over its 70+ year production has sold around 1.9 million units in the US rare even in comparison to Cadillac Deville for example which sold over 6.5 million units between 1953-2005 53 model year run and for part of that run it technically came in 3 body styles Coupe Convertible Sedan or Coupe Coupe Utility and Sedan though the Coupe Utility was extremely rare 3,000 produced over 4 years 1973-1976 back when the Coupe and Sedan regularly sold more than 100,000 units each per year
20:45 yeah, I wish they went back to the 2000s where they made cool, reliable, and modable trucks and suvs with the ls based engines, nowadays they got so unnecessarily big, ugly, and unreliable due to emissions and unnecessary technology being put on it. And they don't even put V8s in em anymore 😂
Interesting comment on fine art. Look at this headline from the Wall Street Journal on September 24, 2024: The Art Market Is Tanking. Sotheby’s Has Even Bigger Problems. External factors do affect the fine are and collectables market. One in this case is the situation in China. I have even seen reports that the high-end automobile market is being effected.
The shift from front to mid engine isnt necessarily the worst or the best. The way it looks like a lame wannabe italian and not distinctly a Corvette, that's the worst. I blame it on the headlights
hey do you recon you could make a video on austin healey as an owner of one i feel like they have been lost to time abit and dont have a very good documentation on the history

Boy I sure do hope the C5 doesn't sky rocket in prices before I can import one to Brazil
Corvettes is one of the rare kind of lines in which every new model is really updated, many others rely on competition and one-upping or stagnate

Love the Corvette. Planning on getting a C3 at some point, build it up to be a daily driver.
My Grandad used to have one from his old racing days it was the last car he let go out of all the other sports cars he used to own.
