    Thanks alot! The 2011 looks very fast! Can it be fast with bootcamp and OSX and Windows on it? I want to play Valorant and Quake Live it that's it. On MAC OSX I want to do photoshop, illustrator, Adobe XD, TH-cam and Garageband smoothly. Is this possible with an 2011 or 2012 version? And You recommend i7 with 16gb? or can it be i5 and 8gb ram as well ?

    It's 2 years later...did anything fry on your Mac Mini as a result? I installed 8GB first and then upgraded to SSD but never tried to go beyond the maximum RAM officially supported. Not yet, anyway. Web browsers take up the most memory. So annoying to have Chrome or Firefox cause my machine to slow up and fans start spinning.

    • @MichaelKlements

      It’s still going strong, I haven’t had any problems with it. I definitely think the SSD upgrade is worthwhile doing as well.

      @@MichaelKlements SSD probably makes a bigger difference, imo. I already did that, though. It made my Mac Mini faster than my maxed out 16GB iMac (which I now use just for a monitor).

    Hi Michael, i want to likewise upgrade from 2X4Gb to 2X8Gb... but there seems to be confusion over whether you can run Low voltage Ram or not? some say it can run both? 1600 MHz DDR3 - it seems L ram is cheaper as well.. if i get L ram is there any downside do you know? Hi Michael, I also want to upgrade my mac mini mid 2011 with 16 Gb of memmory. In the link you link to Corsair memory but that runs on 1.35V and 1600 mHz. Is that a problem?

    • @KayJay01
      @KayJay01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1.35v RAM is considered low voltage RAM, which is not always compatible with all motherboards. I would go for standard voltage (1.5v) RAM just to be safe. The frequency (MHz) does not matter, it will run at the highest speed the Mac can run it at, which is probably 1333 or 1600.

      @MichaelKlements  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kenven,
      It looks like they would work fine. It may be worth sending an email to the supplier and asking if the 4GB modules are compatible with 2011 models (I see they only mention 2012 Mac Minis). If the 4GB modules are compatible then the 8GB should also be fine. If you ask the supplier about the 8GB then they'll likely just say no because 16GB is not officially supported by this generation Mac Mini.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jorge,
      Yes it would still be a worthwhile upgrade, the utilization of RAM doesn't really have anything to do with whether it is a server model or not. Just make sure that the RAM modules you buy are compatible with the specific model number of your Mac Mini.

    • @antonio.x22
      @antonio.x22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      with a new formatted and fresh installation of Mac OS, 16 RAM + SSD it most works good for basic tasks. I've practiced small projects for printing in Photoshop and Illustrator. I just imagine 3D modeling won't be good, maybe slow or a bad workflow, because the integrated graphics won't process info and data as good as Cuda Cores in NVIDIA appliance. It's you test and share your experience :P I found this similar. th-cam.com/video/N-FakIQcHjs/w-d-xo.html

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on what size projects you plan on running in Autocad. I've designed basic models for 3D printing without any issues, but you probably won't manage to work on complex assemblies of components with the limited integrated graphics.

    I noticed that the RAM is DDR3 PC3 10600 and from what I have read online it says use DDR3 PC3 8500 or the Mac Mini will crash.
    Have you had any problems with your Mac crashing or is the Ram working as it should do?
    My Mac is a 2011, 2.4Ghz with the CD Rom built in, like the 2010 models. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Michael! Thank you for the video, I was wondering, does upgrading your ram make the computer go faster? Also, I am looking at my "about this mac" and it says 2.3 GHZ intel core I5, Memory 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, and its running on a OS X Yosemite, would increasing the RAM be beneficial for me? Lastly, given the specs that I just described should I purchase the same RAM that you used in the video?

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Miles. Upgrading RAM doesn't necessarily make your computer faster, it just gives it better resources for multitasking. I found a dramatic improvement in speed when switching between tasks (having multiple windows open) and less lagging in video editing applications where more of the video files currently being worked on could be loaded into RAM. There was also a slight improvement in the boot-up time although this would probably be better improved with an SSD. You'd need to know the model number of your mac in order to check if the RAM is compatible. The easiest is to type the model number into the RAM search you do on Amazon and it'll suggest compatible modules if the seller has them listed.
