I saw this when it first came out back in 68. I was 13 my parents took me on my birthday to the cinerama dome in L.A. The neat thing was in the parking lot by the entrance to the theater they had a diorama display using the filming miniatures of the Tigerfish sub , Mig-21 and a Bear transport aircraft.
As an 8th grader, I saw the film in the Windsor Cinerama theater in Houston. Velvet rocker seats and a screen that was 33.5 feet tall by 100 feet wide, deeply curved with a 146 degree field of view, three individually angled film projectors. The sound system had 19 Altec speakers that were all amplified with the first transistor amplifier for theaters. It was a visual and sound wonder, I suppose never to be heard and seen again. It was a visual wonder, and the big glorious stereo sound in the theater -- Cinerama filming and projection technology, I suppose never to be heard or seen again. In my opinion, today's "giant" screens do NOT compare favorably. My mom purchased the soundtrack vinyl LP for me, and I still have it. The record jacket and its liner notes, pictures, illustrations, credits and so forth...a real keepsake. Hey thanks for putting this on TH-cam.
An Extraordinary Film Score. It's always a wonder to me how film composers have all that music n their heads when scoring films. A wondrous achievement.
One of the greatest it's of movie trivia- this was Howard Hughes's favorite movie. He even bought a tv station in Vegas just so ISZ could be played whenever he called for it, which was DAILY!
Excellent movie always loved it. I served on the USS Ronquil the submarine used by MGM for this movie. Great sub, but not a nuclear boat it is a diesel. Decommissioned now but a great sub of its time.
Wonderful highlights suite from one of the greatest movies of all time. You've included all the best, including the eerie, atmospheric "Under the Ice" (Legrand certainly gives a nod in this piece to Jerry Goldsmith, the master of percussion in movie scores). Also the great, driving "Across the Ice". Saw this movie in 1968 at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, and it was a terrific, never-to-be-forgotten experience. Thanks for posting!
When you watch movies on the internet you get different takes differant dialog so you get the idea they weren't sure what they wanted they use trial and error
Merci à Soundtrack Of The Mind pour ce bon choix.
i want both the CD and the DVD,i'll check amazon for them.because along with"the guns of navarone",this was one of the greatest of the alistair maclean pics.i love it!
I have got this movie DVD of Rock Hudson Patrick McGoohan and Ernest Borgnine in Ice Station Zebra as I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx

Out of all the others who posted the, "Ice Station Zebra" soundtrack on TH-cam, YOU GOT IT AS IS! BRAVO TO YOU!
An amazing score. Masterfully done! Thank You!
I love the fact that Patrick McGoohan was able to do this while he was doing "The Prisoner" series! he was an amazing actor!

Sorry, I thought I wrote "bits" of trivia.

Funny the Russkies and Chicoms still use diesel boats but we rely too much on nucs.
a really great theme to the opening of the movie
That poster is so f-n awesome, I could look at it all day.
A very underrated score.
That's, if anything, an understatement... 😉
AGREED

MKIVWWI would have loved to have seen this film in Cinerama! Wish there was a big retrospective
This wasn't a true CINERAMA there were only a few films that were you need 3 cameras 3 projectors 3 screens
They made the stuff up on the spot about melting the ice with blow torches because they heard from MGM that 2001 is coming so you need a big ending
When you watch movies on the internet you get different takes differant dialog so you get the idea they weren't sure what they wanted they use trial and error
I'll 2nd that.

A horn players dream !
Howard Hughes favorite movie.
1:24 NAUTICAL THEME
2:49 THE SATELLITE FALLS
4:56 DROPPING THE MARINE CAPTAIN ON THE SUBMARINE BY HELICOPTER
10:50 ACROSS THE ICE
12:43 FALLING IN A CREVACE
13:37 STING CHORDS
A good but not great movie. The soundtrack was the 'star' of the movie.

Good film....lousy score. Sorry.
