  • Temp on the Port engine starts to fluctuate when trying to do a WOT test.
    Boat:
Tiaramisu is a 1997 Tiara 3100 open. She is powered by two 7.4 (454ci) manifold fuel injected Crusader gas engines. I've owned Tiaramisu since 2004.
    The camera gear:
Main camera is a Sony HandyCam HDR-CX405. I also have a GoPro Hero 8 Black with Sidekick Light and a GoPro Hero 5 Black. The HandyCam is set to 1080 60i and the GoPros are set to 1080 60i.
    Editing:
I'm currently using PowerDirector 14.0 from Cyberlink. Episodes are taking me a full day to edit. I'm using royalty free music from Artlist, unlimited downloads of great tunes for $199 a year.

Thanks for the video, good to see another Tiara owner (we have a 98 3100 with the Crusaders as well). Having some overheating issued on the port engine, your videos is helpful to troubleshoot!

Do you know the temp range spec?

454 XLi engines should have a 170 degree thermostat in them. At cruise mine ran at 170. When the raw water system had restrictions that would increase. If the engines were running at 180 I knew there was an issue going on. Cheers! Thanks for watching!

@@castawaymusic144 Thx, yeah I'm just short of 180 when cruising at 3,200 RPMS. I know the heat exchangers are clear. I just had them apart. I'm not sure about the condition of the oil coolers or impellers. I just installed new risers this year.

The exhaust manifolds if they're older than 15 years can cause a problem. They restrict the flow of coolant out of them and the coolant heats up because it stays in the manifolds too long. When I changed my exhaust manifolds that were 21 years old, the engines stayed much cooler.

@@tiaramisu how hard of a job is the exhaust manifold on the 454XLI? I have a ton of room in my 41' Concorde and I'm thinking of doing it myself over the winter. Did you do the job yourself or hire someone for it?

@@Adam-en4zm it's a fairly straightforward job. It's my nephew in the video that's helped. You're not going to do it in a afternoon or a day. It's going to take a couple of days. Make sure you have a bolt extractor like I showed in the video in case you have any bolts that don't want to come out. Be sure to get new exhaust manifold bolts they will be 12 point bolts. If possible it's easiest to remove fittings from the old exhaust manifolds while the manifolds are on the engine then they can be reinstalled into the new manifolds. If there is anything else on the sides of the motors that you couldn't get to before, once the manifolds are off that's a great time to work on any of those things. Good! Cheers!
