Well done episode. My favorite part was the pictures of the pearl clouds. Liked the blurred shots, they looked better than expected. I should experiment with slow shutter speeds in low light for moving subjects. Simulating movement with hand shake is a good idea. - Nice to have a twin brother that helps you to make these videos.🙂
Thanks! CMOS-Erik was the director. 😉I was a bit surprised how well the camera handled the low light situations when shooting the clouds. Most shots were at -0.7-1.o EV to get the clouds colors to appear but still preserve some environment detail. I find that the handheld slow shutter-shooting is a way to have some fun with an environment that doesn't look very interesting as a regular shot. 😁
Another nice video. The intro was amusing and I enjoyed the run down on the camera and the pictures. I quite like these old Sony Cybershot cameras . I have a very unnecessary amount of P100/120/200s and some of the other early ones under 7mp . The only camera I ever bought new for myself was a black DSC P120 which I still have . I think I’d like to track down one of this model you’ve just shown also
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the intro too. 😁 Wow, just one new camera - that's quite the feat. Impressive that the P120 is still with you. I come across a lot of those Cybershot "P"-series of cameras for sale online...the "rounded side" design of them is almost iconic. I'm sure the DSC-V1 would be a fun addition to your collection. It's special. 📸
Yeah I can understand why you have kept it after all these years. I guess it was a flagship model when it was released, and the ship is still sailing, although the ocean is much rougher now! 😎
Love the slow shutter speed shots. I'll have to try that with my DSC-W1 I bought new back in the day. It has the same sensor but in a smaller body with a 2.5" screen. I don't think I ever used it!
Happy new year! Great video Erik! I own this camera too, it's really packed with interesting and innovative features....that no one needs...but fun to play with! 😄 imagequality and speed is ok. Surprisingly it was easy to connect the camera with a USB cable to my tablet! So I didn't need a card reader. Sony was always a step ahead.
New Year's greetings! Glad you appreciate my take on this camera. Agree on all of your points here - and the connection part is indeed surprising, I guess that's extra convenient due to its use of MemoryStick... My copy came with a MemoryStick PRO, btw. 😁
Congratulations, i love your reviews. Regarding night framing, maybe there is something lost in translation in the manual. Probably it is the same feature that exists in sony 717: the camera projects a laser beam pattern to be able to focus easily in very dark conditions.
I did notice a red pattern, so it might indeed have that laser. I didn’t look into it too much since I couldn’t see any noticeable difference from the regular flash shots, but the improved focusing ability could be the main advantage. 😁
According to an old DPRreview-post, it might work: "Use a strong Neodymium magnet such as a 30mm disc or any strong magnet directly under the flash, you will hear a click and that's it until you turn the camera off..." Have you tried this hack yourself?
@ccderik I've not tried it yet, I have an F707, so it should work on it. The magnets I have are either too weak or way too strong. Possibly a small electric motor might have a suitable one.
Brilliant video and great camera! The sweet spot those 5 mp cameras... trying not to buy anymore gear....this video is not helping...lol Joking aside, Thanks for sharing!
In those days they tried to make the colours and the images in general look nice , and similar to but not exactly like colour film because people’s idea of a nice photo was mostly of a nice colour film photo . The resolution is technically terrible by today’s standard and in general you could say the image quality is low but it depends what quality you’re looking for . I think the good quality “digicams” produce pleasant images , like you said , nicer than phones do
Perfect point! Up until the iPhone 12, this Sony has a larger sensor (1/1.8" vs. 1/2.5") which plays a big part when it comes to dynamic range and low light performance. Moreover, smartphones tend to overprocess their images creating more of an artificial look, while these old CCD compacts tried to replicate film to some extent, giving the images a more pleasing tone SOOC. 😎
As you said - amen to that! 😄The Fuji 6800Z is cool and rare, but I'm more of a fan of its design than the images it produces. I'd recommend the F11 (I've tested both). 😁

Great Camera, bought it 2003 and still have it. Can charge the batteri mounted in the camera. Otrolig kvalitet för sin tid!

Appreciate the liking! When shooting them, it's a mix of planning and complete randomness. 😁
Happy new year!🎉🎉❤

I have the V3 and it too is a fun camera.
It definitely looks like it has a good fun factor! The design is similar to the Canon Powershot G10/11 etc, but beefier. 😁
Nice video, and another Sony I need to try out :D Since it has the night shot mode, is it possible to do the "magnet hack" like on the F-series?

Thanks!! "Do not buy anymore gear" sounds like a New Year's resolution just waiting to fall apart. 😁
Nice Camera - i Need one 😂
@@fotofari I hope it finds you 😁
>20 old point and shoot takes better looking images than my smartphone

Don't take these type of cameras too seriously and they will surprise you
I have a Fujifilm 6800z and takea some surprisingly good pics
