Isn’t there a large o-ring and flat surface gasket around the pump that also shrinks and leaks with age? Did you replace the o-ring? Experience says reseal everything with new once you have transmission out. My 2 cents.
You are correct. I didn’t change the gasket between the pump and the bell housing because I didn’t want to get that far into this repair. I also didn’t think it was leaking. This transmission needs to be rebuilt anyway.
@TheMinuteMasters well I did a converter once didn't check how the seal wood fit the torque converter after all the work I did on it when I started the car had a massive leak after redoing everything turns out they sold me the wrong seal ever since that incident when ever I have to replace this particular seal I first check seal to torque for proper fitment before install never had that issue ever again
It looks like you have the channel side of the seal facing away from the transmission? I'm not a transmission expert, but I usually see the seal channel pointed toward the transmission.
If you were looking to replace the torque converter seal shop may charge you between $700 and $1000. If you do it yourself, it’s just the cost of the part.👌
Most of the time it's the bushing behind the seal is what's causing the leak I have figured out the hard way to replace them both and not just the seal
@@TheMinuteMasters thank you , im sure this seal is broken or bad on my 08 f150 it basically pissed trans fluid the other day and it didnt want to drive anymore , how much would this repair cost on average if i go to a shop!
Great vid man, I think my bad cat caused mine to start leaking so I'm gonna need to change it out soon. Can't wait to take trans outta my 97 ram 2500.
Thanks man!🤙
My 94 Flareside 4x4 needs 1 of those, fun, fun removing all that.
You’ll have two more steps than the 2wd. That’s removing the front driveshaft in the transfer case.

@@bdwren Ah! That too!
well explained and shown. thank you very much.

Thanks for the video, appreciate the info. Have you pulled it for a rebuild and if so have you done a video on that process?
I did a rebuild years and ago and filmed a two part series. It does to cover every little detail but it will get you through certain parts.
I can't believe you threw that at us!
🤷♂️ lol
My eye 👁️!
I hope the bushing in the front is good because if not it will take out the new seal as well.... But they may have fixed that design flaw by then.
The bushing should be good. I didn’t see anything out of place when I pulled the seal.

Thanks Terry! I appreciate it!🤙
When transmission pukes fluid ,,, I think the seal don’t stop to actually. I just change the pump and the torque
Thanks for the tip. As far as I could tell, the puking has stopped. So the seal definitely did the trick.
Is the rtv on the seal absolutely necessary? TIA
I believe the install manual recommended it.
Awesome
Should always check fitment of seal to torque converter for proper fitment
How do you do that?
@TheMinuteMasters well I did a converter once didn't check how the seal wood fit the torque converter after all the work I did on it when I started the car had a massive leak after redoing everything turns out they sold me the wrong seal ever since that incident when ever I have to replace this particular seal I first check seal to torque for proper fitment before install never had that issue ever again
@@ramonolmeda2280 gotcha. That makes sense I always replace like for like.
What if you dont have 2.5 inch conduit to push it in evenly?
You can use just about anything round that’s 2.5 inches. You could even drill the correct size hole through a piece of wood and use that as a press.
great work, might last a week!
What might last a week? The TC?
i notice the notches on the bushing are side-to-side. in the manual they are picture up-and-down.. do you know if that matters?
Good observation. I’m not sure if those notches mean anything.
Did you put the bushing in or was that stock?
"Finished look"? is there going to be a nano-cam in there monitoring when running? Amazing. ;)
I know right! Lol I guess that’s the craftsman in me.

I’m not an transmission expert either but that’s how these seals are installed. When I’m doubt, match existing.🤙
Would this be the same process on a th350?
I’m not sure what transmission that is, but I think they’re all similarly built
With that leaking Will your truck go forward
If you leak enough fluid, your transmission won’t function properly. However, just having a slow leak won’t cause issues.
What is the cost for some work like that ? I. Saving on a el camino chevy

I’ve heard that too. In my case, this seal was the culprit.
How bad was it leakin?... Was it comin out like a waterfall?... Mine is leakin pretty bad when i turn on my truck
It would leak a good couple of ounces once I would park and truck and turn it off.
is this the front or rear seal
This is the front of the transmission inside the bell housing.
