    Those were the awesome years. Candidates did not have to "prepare". They just went to the pageant being themselves and if the universe loved it, they won. The results were always an awesome surprise. But today, pageants are so predictable and political and unexciting.. Rina was a legend

      DeansLester There was once a news article about it in Spanish & I believe she discussed it in her book & one of her interviews in Spain. Amparo resigned just 6 months after being crowned. She threw her crown out of window & the Maria Clara statue given to her by the Philippines. It was rumored that she was disappointed with MU org because the 1975 Miss Universe will be held in El Salvador & was a controversial choice of venue because that time, the President was a dictator. One of his allies, was so mesmerized & really liked Amparo. So this particular person tried to win her over by buying her gifts, jewelries, in exchange of who knows what? Maybe a one-night stand or possibly marriage. Amparo felt she was being taken advantage of & that MU org cannot even protect her from these kinds of people. In the end, she resigned but the pageant was still held in El Salvador. That’s why if you watched the 1975 pageant, Amparo was not there at all.

    The 1976 Miss universe was carried out in Hong Kong. We're so lucky to watch the pageant on TV live from the beginning to the crowning moment. Despite being a tween, I was stunned by Miss Israel's beauty and her character, hoping she would be the winner and she did it indeed. After so many years and thankful to the technology, I'm very glad she's still beautiful and natural, has a supportive husband and succeeded to pursue her dream. I wish her all the best and lead a wonderful life in her hometown!

      It's not (and must not be) really a first world or developing country factor, but it is heavily about culture. For example, LATIN cultures like their pageants because of their everyday value on beauty, but also how they praise their beautiful women or just beautiful women and men anywhere. Another factor is that countries that do not have such forced agressive feminism, enjoy pageants more because they value femininity and praising women's beauty. In countries that push too much feminism, you will see they are taught not to like beauty pagents because they are "sexist" or "outdated". This is actually supressing women's qualities and natural charm. In denial. These countries don't know how to relax. You will also find many countries who are not very loud about their love of beauty pageants, not as loud as a Venezuela etc., but they still like pageants and beauty in general. These countries would be in central and eastern Europe.

    She desrved to win because she was very pretty and extremely smart, she gave intelligent answer to the question she was asked. After her reign she lived for 4 years in New York working in public relations for the Jewish Agency and Israel Bonds. Finally she returned to Israel and became a Lawyer, married and had two daughters. today she is a Grandma, wife and worlks as a Attorney. She never was invited again to the Miss Universe pageant until 2021 when the pageant was televised from Eliat, Israel, were she was a preliminar judge……………. Having been the only Miss Israel Miss Universe, she should have been a judge in for the final and not for the preliminary.

    • @AgentAO7
      @AgentAO7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She resigned only 6 months after being crowned. Her reign was full of controversy! During the MU1975 pageant in El Salvador, it was rumored that the dictators/politicians of El Salvador was so mesmerized by her beauty & she was offered numerous amounts of jewelries, modeling & acting offers, and cash, in exchange of being married to one of the comrades of the dictator president. Amparo was so mad & disappointed as she felt the organization can’t even protect her from these people & the organization was using her to connive with them. She accussed the organization as corrupt & receiving gifts from the government of El Salvador in exchange of her. During this time, El Salvador was also a very controversial choice for the venue of the pageant being under dictatorship. With her disappointment, she decided to resign. As an expression of her disappointment & hate towards the organization, she threw out her crown & the Maria Clara statue that was given to her by the Philippines out of the window! But many people were also saying Amparo was very difficult to deal with. During the 1974 pageant itself, she was in a relationship with a Spanish guy, and she felt really homesick being away from him & sometimes miss rehearsals & pageant activities. In the Philippines, she was also offered to star in one of the local movies, in which she acted like a total diva & was not in good terms with one of the actresses & director which eventually led to the cancellation of that movie! Aside from that, she also decided she just wanted to puruse an acting career in Spain & she doesn’t want to do anything & be associated with Miss Universe at all. In one of her press interviews in Spain, she described her reign as what she thought was the best moment of her life was in reality the worst experience she ever had. 1974 Miss Universe was very controversial as well and the organization even pretended as if the pageant never happened! The 1st runner up Miss Wales also had her own controversy. She eventually became Miss World in 1974 & was dethroned because it was found out that she’s already a single mother even during Miss Universe. She hid it from the public that’s why she can’t assume the Miss Universe title when Amparo resigned. The 2nd ru, Miss Finland, technically should have been the new successor & this could have been the first back to back victory for Finland. But the organization for some reason, didn’t even consider her. So eventually Kerry Ann Wells (MU1972) was the only available option to crown Miss Universe 1975.

    Many Miss Universe winners display their crown and their sash in their homes for all visitors to see, Maritza Sayalero, Miss Universe 1979, has even a huge picture in her living room and her Miss Universe sash is enclosed in glass hanging on the wall. Rina Messinger with her crown stashed away inside a plastic bag... WTF!!??.

    • @bobbymoya
      @bobbymoya 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Pete Smith She caresses the crown fondly, makes sure it's not tarnished and is out of harms way, and even gets transported to some good memories when watching the video. What else do you want from her? I think she sees being MU as a wonderful experience that changed her life somewhat, but is not about to build a shrine to herself with the crown and sash on display, especially considering her current career as a family lawyer. How banal would it be to still be displaying her past glories as a beauty queen? How many families would trust their precious lives to someone pressing on shallow values? I do wish I knew what she was saying - THAT would really help us determine her POV.

    • @Javier636
      @Javier636 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bobbymoya Absolutely disagree. 1.- It is NOT wrong, banal and immature to display past achievements that hard work, sacrifice and preparation helped you arrived to. Have you ever been in a home where you see a trophy or trophies, medals, diplomas?, yes, me too have seen them in MANY homes, it is understandable people would display such things and when asked describe with understable pride how they got them.2.- Past Miss Universe Winners do not HAVE to "build a shrine" to display they crown and their Miss Universe sash, I have seen pictures of homes of past Miss Universe winners including as I mentioned the home of Miss Universe 1979 Maritza Sayalero of Venezuela currently residing in Ensenada, Mexico, and Miss Universe 1991 Lupita Jones of Mexicali, Mexico currently residing in Mexico City, they both have in their living rooms a large studio picture wearing the crown, Maritza Sayalero displays her Miss Universe sash also in her living room in a crystal casing, I am sure other Miss Universe winners do the same, because, winning Miss Universe is not an everyday thing, besides being VERY difficult to win it.
      3.- Rinna Messinger displaying her crown and sash would not at all affect the perception people have of her as a lawyer, on the contrary, they would see her in a more positive light as a winner that she is.
      I am sure MANY Miss Universe winners would take offense to your words of "shallow values" because they do remember all the time, personal sacrifice, preparation and planification it took to participate even without knowing if they would win. That is why I still think it is odd Rina Messinger has those precious mementos stashed away inside a plastic bag inside a drawer like 'that's were you belong'. A safe where people keep valuables like money and jewelry and important documents I would understand, because if a thief gets his hands on that crown and that sash he hands down for sure could get thousands of dollars in the black market for those things, there's people who in a blink of an eye would buy them, but no, no safe, but a plastic bag. You can put it any way you want but Rina Messinger would respect her past as Miss Universe 1976 if she put that crown and that sash in a more fitting scenario to be seen. I bet Miss Australia, Miss Scotland, Miss Wales and Miss Venezuela who made up along Rina Messinger the top five finalist would be shocked to see where Rina Messinger keeps those valuable objects.

    • @bobbymoya
      @bobbymoya 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe she takes the pageant a little less seriously than you do, and maybe I do as well. Maybe she feels she didn't have to work as hard for that achievement. Maybe you're too young to remember, but participation in the MIss Universe pageant was not as hard work and as huge a preparation a deal back then as it is now. The candidates were elected two months before the pageant and spent two to four weeks in the preliminary stages. Rina was an air force pilot who took a month or so off to enter the pageant (and subsequently had to take a year off once she won). It was different then and I think she keeps that in perspective.

    • @Javier636
      @Javier636 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      bobbymoya What does it "being different back then" have to do with the point in discussion?, you thinking 'oh it was way back then in 1976, the preparation and sacrifice and planification was not as what it is with today's girls taking part in Miss Universe", well, let me tell you that Maritza Sayalero who KEEPS her Miss Universe crown and sash in a fitting place won her title in 1979, three years after Rina Messinger in 1976, that is not much of a time difference as you can obviously see and still Sayalero's attitude is the proper one. Your statament "It was different then and I think she keeps that in perspective" is obviously not a valid one since even without (according to you) hard work, preparation and sacrifice, Miss Universe 1979 proves you wrong, not me, HER.
      And also (your statament) "Maybe she takes the pageant a little less seriously than you do", I think it is obvious Rina Messinger does not take it seriously with the whole world watching where that crown is, she takes it a whole lot not seriously. Would she donate that crown and that sash to an institution that could display them for the public to see, I bet they would, something Messinger is obviously not interested in doing. I, as a pageant fan, would definitely stand in line and pay a ticket to view the achievements of a past Miss Universe or Miss USA winner, hands down I would. With the carelessness of which Rina Messinger and you view the caring of valued possessions I feel temped to write to her and flat out ask her to give them to me. Hey, it's worth the try, she might say "Oh go ahead and take that trash out of my sight, good riddance, I need the space in that drawer anyway".
      Remember the saying: 'One man's trash is another man's treasure".

      Nobody's trying to prove or disprove anything here, we're just expressing our opinions in a civil manner. I respect yours; it's different from mine but its valid.We are not discussing cold facts or statistics so there's no need to invalidate other people's opinions. To dismiss someone else's opinion as "not valid" just because you don't agree is to lack any debating skills and common
      courtesy. When that happens, as far as I'm concerned, the discussion is over. You don't seem to respect alternative POVs.

    Someone, please, could translate into English this interview? I'm very curious to know what she's talking about the Crown and of the competition, as she keeps independent, not seemed that she despises what lived as Miss Universe, thanks.

      She says when watching the video that she thought she'd be first runner up and that nobody in Israel would know anything. She says about the crown- nobody in her family knows where she keeps it or sees it? She says she won't try it on b.c its not the place she's at in her life. She tells the journalist he can try it on. After some time with the crown out she says enough- its sweet, its amazing, i give it much respect but done lets put it away. They ask her if she's Miss Universe for life and she says not for her but others yes. My translation is bad but its a great piece. She's done a lot with her life and it just isn't that much of a big deal to her 40 years later.

      Thank you, thank you so much Matt Cohen, for your kindness in translating, I've always been very curious, but as I don't understand her language, and unfortunately I don't know anyone that could do (despite living in Brazil, where it has a good amount of rich foreigners who live here) Then gave to have a good idea of what she says, it doesn't matter if your translation was not so good, but for me thanks. I found her story so beautiful as Miss Universe and the detachment of the stage now, as read here in general the countries although they face with respect, others already have an attitude as being of a higher importance, and her guard with affection all spent and lives her life the present and future, but a guard at the heart this past important. Once again thank you very much :)

      jennifer gray je she’s not speaking
      Badly about the experience it’s just that she’s been practicing law for so many years it’s not how she defines herself. She said the crown is in the bureau with ALL her prized possessions. I hope people don’t take offense at her. Beauty pageants aren’t very important in Israel and she’s done so much w/her life since 76. She isn’t speaking badly at all.

    • @jennifergrayje2497
      @jennifergrayje2497 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I completely understand this situation even not knowing the language her to see that she speaks fondly of those possessions, and how important it was for her. In your translation I could prove that I was right. Unfortunately I read some comment here of people who don't understand and thought that she makes little case of the Crown and of titles. For example some latinas miss who keep these objects in a bubble, with if it was a sanctuary, and I don't think evidence that are more valued as Miss Universe 76. But also read a lovely comment from a person saying that she keeps her Crown and sash with affection as keep old letters that were part of a past beautiful and important. I found beautiful and poetic this comment. And in fact, the greatest value of things are those that keep in the heart and in memory, not having to demonstrate attitudes without importance. thanks :)

      bobbymoya My first reaction was to think: she doesn't care at all! Your comments made me think she might have taken her role very seriously during that year, but that experience is just not as prominent in her current life as it it in other titleholders' life (i.e. Maritza and Lupita).
      The only thing I don't agree with is your example about a client visiting her home. Many homes are going to display longing and pride about the past (from family heirlooms, to childhood pictures, to athletic competitions trophies). Now, if she opened the door wearing her Miss Universe gown, the crown, and the sash, then that'd be a good sign of craziness :)
