Having witnessed her performances in this season, the way she performed better and better from the audition till the finals, I was surprised to learn that she's the only one not getting a contact from any label from that season! Can you imagine it? She could have been another Whitney, Chaka, Diana, and Dionne, if she was given a chance. What a waste!
Ms. Dionne Warwick song are very difficult to sing. Ms. Dionne just makes them look easy to sing when they are not. However, if you know about singing you would definitely know from jump that her songs are not easy to sing no matter how easy Ms. Warwick makes it appear. Ms. DIONNE doesn't just sing great songs, SHE creates masterpieces!! Frfr!! Vonzelle you hung in there though👌.
She had only two or three particular spots were she was pitchy, but she managed to control the overall, and she sang her face off!!! Excellent job!! Her runs are on point, and the way she ended it was spectacular!!! A Carrie vs Vonzell finale would’ve been epic!! Those of us who know about singing know that she did much better than the critiques she was given by the judges!!!
At the time, Bo was 'edgy' and 'different', at least as far as Idol standards back then. He was good, but clearly in a 'singing competition', he didn't deserve to be there over her.
The fix was sooo in. Poor Vonzell. She could've lip synched over a Whitney vocal, but either way, those judges were adamant about keeping their checks and making sure Carrie won.
It's evident in the voting pattern that Carrie and Bo will be the Top 2. Both were never in the bottom group ever while Vonzell has been in the Bottom group multiple times. But I think Vonzell deserves at least a Top 2 finish against Carrie.

He knows that wasn’t pitchy. then he’s sittin next to Whitney Houston’s white daddy who said she hit every note cause she did. I heard the lie in Randy’s tone. Producers told you to end this girl. They paid your more to rig ur opinion or something cause it’s senseless. And I don’t just say stuff like that. She literally performed this flawlessly PIERCING every note and then it’s a hard song to sing so if it’s pitchy YOU KNO! I lost all respect for Randy after this. It’s blatant dishonesty
They weren't gonna have another black winner, because Fanny n Ruben both failed to generate Kelly Clarkson money. For obvious reasons. And when you have a Carrie Underwood, who you know will be huge, (no sleeping on her vocals), you know the rest...Vonz just came on the wrong season.
This one kinda exposes Vonzell´s few problems/limitations: There were some clear flat moments and like it was pointed by the judges, the interpretation of the song wasnt right with the smiles and nice vibe she was giving.. Vonzell was killer on upbeat/fun numbers, ballads kinda exposed her at the time as a interpreter and her vocals aswell in a few spots (apart from When You Tell Me That You Love Me, that one she nailed). The end was pretty strong, she showed her pipes for sure.
sboudreaux27 Constantine blew it with the Nickelback song. Granted, Scott Savol should still have been the one sent packing that night, but unfortunately Constantine did himself no favors with a song that was far too gravelly for his voice.
vonzell was great at singing ballads!!! when u tell me that u love me, i have nothing, people, turn to u, how do i live were all sung very well. this was probably her worst performance post top 12, and i think she was nervous because it was a big night.
It was clear - American Idol wasn't satisfied with Fantasia's post win musical career in Season 3 so another talented, black, female paid the price in Season 4.
There were so many singers on Idol who should've went big. In this day and age maybe they could've? The irony. There are so many bad singers on today's singing shows
That should not have been the song choice for her voice. It's not a voice-match fitting for her style which hindered her fair chance of winning the title. She should've selected her own song. Especially on that day. The guy that discovered whitney was there. So they should've picked the best song for her to sing. They chose a stumble instead. They did that on purpose.
