    Naranča
    Oj, divojko, jabuko rumena,
Parim da te, ma, naranča rodila.
    Nije mene naranča rodila,
Za goru me je mat moja rodila.
    Aj! Jo-di-lo-lej! Ta-ra-lo-di-lo-di-le-ej!...
    Bura mi je ziparinka bila,
Zipjuć me je va morje stavjala.
    Mornari me va mrižu lovili
    Prodali me biloj Katarini.
    Aj! Jo-di-lo-lej! Ta-ra-lo-di-lo-di-le-ej!...
    Katarina dobra žena bila
Ka je mene ma bilu odgojila.
Z bilim kruhom i crljenim vinom.

Song is very old but he modernised the song and wrote down the sheet music (while listening to people) and he thinks that because he did it the song belongs to him...even though song is older then his grand grand grand grand parent.
      So stupid.

This is beautiful stuff. Compliment to these beautiful women.
Europe is so diverse. So many different cultures, languages and peoples. They tell us Europe needs immigration to be diverse but I say that is false.

Who are "they"? And why should i care what someone thinks and wants for "Europe"... This is our national folklore.. not "European" ... Europe is a continent not a country... we are not one but many...

+Puzzling Centaur Its not that strange at least, you find this red, white and black symbolism very often in traditional pieces, just think of Snow White. The meaning of it got lost in the modern world. Also the metaphorics in slavic languages are different, a "girl like a red apple" means an outstandingly beautiful and healthy girl. The red-white-black symbolism here is broken down to a common folks level, very nicely done, but still common. "Oh beautiful girl, were you born by an orange tree?" (Too beautiful to be born by a human, oranges were noble mans food, too). No, I was born in the hills (some high place by a mystical mother), the Bora took me down and dropped me into the sea (Bora - Croatian: Bura - is a very heavy down draught at Croatian coastside, often strong enough to lit. blow full loaded trucks into the sea. This specific wind has a background from old legends, too, a former beautiful woman turned to be the Bora, so somewhat of the wicked stepmother from Snow White. The Bora character is more complex though, its not only about narcism and the mystical figure of the wicked stepmother lost her mythological background in the White Snow tale, too. You find the same archetype repeated in mystical pieces, like for example also in Mozarts Magic Flute, where it is impersonized by the Queen of the Night). So: Taken by the Bora, dropped into the sea, good sailors caught me in their net and saved me (the good, simple, hard working folks from the coast side) and sold me to the White Catherine (simply means a fairy godmother) who raised me with white bread and red wine. Literally translated red wine is "black wine" in Croatian, white bread and red wine - noble mans food again; so there we are with the red-white-black symbolism again, which is a very complex one, repeated in many legends and the heraldics of most of Europe for a good reason. And, no suprise, the klapa (this sort of choir) is dressed in the same colours. Hope this very raw info bunch helps a bit :)

+snafuart Thank you so much, your explanation has enhanced my appreciation for the song and the lore that brings enchantment to the beautiful harmony. "Too beautiful to be born by humans," how absolutely lovely and expressive of how we feel when we behold our beloved.

    • @puzzlingcentaur
      @puzzlingcentaur 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Most of it was completely unknown to me, but it makes sense. I didn't take into consideration that "red apple" metaphor means very little to people who cannot speak any Slavic language.
