A final boss that cannot be beaten. Such an incredible idea that I have yet to experience in another game. Kojima better make something like this again, now that he is free of konami.
I know this is a three years late reply, but personally, I think Anubis doesn't qualify as the final boss. Viola and her Neith is. Viola and Leo have a personal conflict in the story of this game. Leo doesn't even know that Anubis existed until the end of the game. Anubis and its mysterious pilot are only there to set up the sequel, so obviously it can't be beaten in this game, but the main conflict of this game ends with Viola's death. And it is justified in-story. Like Viola said, the threat of an Orbital Frame depends on its runner. Leo at this point is just a kid who's just lucky enough to land in a super prototype robot that outclasses everything else, but it's still not at its full potential. Anubis, meanwhile, is a fully-upgraded Orbital Frame with an ace pilot at the cockpit. It takes another ace pilot Dingo taking Jehuty to its full potential to finalyl stand a chance agaisnt Anubis. ;)
Konami did make another game where a similar situation happened, though it still is kind of a win for the main character. The final boss couldn't be killed, they only rendered it unconscious via several blows to the head. It was Boktai, specifically part 2.
Ever since 2002, when I was 8 years old...the only 2 Games I was 100% purely obsessed with were Metal Gear Solid 2 and Zone of the Enders. Now I just beat Part 1 of Zone of the Enders HD Collection for PlayStation 3, I finally get to play 2nd Runner on April 2016. :) :D
I had both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Zone of the Enders after playing a demo of it in my Metal Gear case. My dad was always a big Metal Gear fan, but in 2003 he gave me the copy. Ever since then I've been rocking hard with Hideo Kojima games. Btw I'm 18 now, I was only 4 in 2002.
It should be this way in ZOE 2, you could hear his voice actually degrade to the point of insanity due to the corruption of his mind by piloting Anubis its similar to the ZOE Idolo anime's case

I live in the UK and I'm trying to find Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner but, I can't find cheaply because when I usually find it, its about £60. Can anyone help?
@Superbeast1370 he's announced that he's started putting together concepts for ZOE 3; like usual though Kojima has been balancing several projects at once over the past few years (MGS4, Peace Walker, Rising) and he's waiting till those are done to his standards before he begins work on it proper.
Yeah it's tough, but hey: ebay exists for a reason! Expect spending a good amount of money though, it's not cheap (i know, because i too want that game)
It's a bit of a lame final boss in my opinion. Even if it carries the story to two, you still want a final boss, not a dodging game, music is kick ass, and I like ZOE.

I think Anubis is beatable in this game because 1)if he was unbeatable he wouldn't have a lifebar. and 2)if you keep your health in the green you are still able to fight him. thats why I think its possible to beat him

Not quite, its an ability called Zero Shift. Anubis can compress the space between two points and travel through it. In essence, it's teleporting.
