    PJ basses did one thing for me. They taught me that I prefer Precision basses and Jazzes separately.

      Really? You should play it again ahah . I can get a P bass tone out of mine and J bass neck pick up tone and combine them it sounds good for slap more than the normal P bass pick up. Now I’m like hmm is it even worth it to get an extra chirpy burpy sound from a full J bass?

    • @WilDBeestMF

      @@MatthewZmusician209 It's definitely worth it. I fell in love with that tone, dude. We have different tastes, and that's a beautiful thing my guy. I realised that I...really don't like anything about P-basses. Not the feel, the tone, the neck, the look, nothing. A PJ is just teasing/disappointing me by giving me half of what I want and something I have realised I don't want.
      Hey, each to their own, but I raise an eyebrow when you say that PJ gets a better slap tone than a full JJ. Dubious, yet bold. I'll nod and smile politely and not question it.

      @@WilDBeestMF aye bro did I say that shoot I mean the combination is better than just a P bass for slap. Like full tone and volume on a PJ sounds better than just a P for slap. You don’t get the burpy popy low notes like on Jazz Bass when they slap on the E and A strings but it adds some . When you pop the octave notes in slap like in the two higher strings , it kinda sounds more thicker on a P bass . Like the slaps dart out on a P bass Jazz bass burps and chirps them out I feel like 😂. But you my PJ bass is actually a Jaguar bass body . More comfortable than a normal P bass for sure !

      @@MatthewZmusician209 I also really like how the JJ has a different voice to every other bass. P-bass: BOOM. Stingray: Gwunk! Jazz: DENG.

    J all the way. Gotta love that hollow, metallic, clanky sound. Perfect for metal and slapping. I'd go with the P for soul and the like. Motown stuff. Both are amazing but something pulls me towards the Jazz Bass.

    Best of both worlds but P Bass is all you need

    so many options when it come to pj. a few i really like:
    both pu's wide open
    p 10 with j rolled back to 6,7,8
    p at 6, 7 with j at 10
    i dont like soloing a bridge j pickup becusse it lack a bit of low end and sounds thin to my ears.
    love your channel! ive been watching your videos since i started my bass journey 2 years ago. Your vid on class d amps helped a lot when i was in the market a few weeks back. youre the man!

    how do you call that configuration where you have a p bass pick up on the neck with a j bass pick up on the bridge BUT with a jazz bass body??!!

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Most people would still call it a PJ bass - the tone being more important than the ergonomics.

    Does the PJ neck configuration sounds different to bass with P pickup only?

    • @lsptnjpm
      @lsptnjpm ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is said that extra pickups affect the sound even if they are turned down because the magnets pull the strings and they are still interfering with the electronics in some way.
      Could be mistaken.

      @@lsptnjpm the sound has much more detail on a regular P. The PJ was kind of a little bit muddy and less bass.

      @@BukanIbuMuA PJ config saps some of the robustness of the split coil and some of the articulation of a single in an effort to create the best of both worlds. What we get is something that isn't as chunky as a P bass and isn't as nice as a J, but has its own flavour and perhaps, own place in the world.

    • @WilDBeestMF
      @WilDBeestMF 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ask the same thing about Jazzes. They don't need that woofy split coil, they have the grind to see them through a mix in a different way. It's a nice grind...
      But...the P woof is nice woof too..
      I think what we're saying is we prefer the pickups on separate instruments haha.
