Hi doc, my 4th metatarsal head is so much painful upon walking and standing . It has sidelined me for almost 2 months now. What can this be? Do you have any idea?

my pain comes and goes depending on shoe comfort and how long im on my feet. it can go away rather quickly and then be back just as suddenly the next day. no real swelling but some numbness lingers. which type of metatasalgia injury would that be? tendon, plate, sack?

Hi, with pain that can come and go quickly, I would be suspicious of nerve being irritated, especially when numbness is mentioned, you know that a nerve is involved. Morton’s Neuroma is the most common forefoot nerve issue by far and width of shoes is very important. Full info here shoesfeetgear.com.au/pages/mortons-neuroma

@@ShoesFeetGearBrisbane well wouldn’t you know it, you were right! Just got back from my podiatrist appointment and he said it’s a Morton’s neuroma. I now have an orthotic that lifts the metatarsal and a cortisone shot to see if that reduces the inflammation. I’ve been using the orthotic for two weeks now and I’m amazed at how much relief that small lift can provide.

So is there a "cure"? Do you have a link to that? I'm having an itching that's annoying, along my whole metatarsal line. It's worst along the top of my foot where the toes meet the foot. I don't think it's athlete's foot.

How could this be diagnosed? I had plantar fasciitis and have a release of the calf surgery but it didn't help and now my plantar plate area seriously hurts and I'm worried I've got a new condition :(
