The paint seemed to float across the campus so smooth I thought you were painting on watercolor paper. Canvas always seems dryer and the paint doesn’t seem to flow like silk but yours does. I see from your description it is definitely canvas. As you can tell I am not a painter but I hope to be One to enjoy the experience of painting and expressing oneself. If you do several coats of gesso, letting it dry in between and lightly sanding before apply each coat, it will help with that. Canvas loves to soak up extra paint. I hope that helps. There's actually a tutorial by Chuck Blick's channel(I think is his name) on preparing canvas for acrylic.

I moist my canvas before applying paint. Whenever required I spray water in between blending
Im not real sure what the reason is for the black box? Other than that..its a gorgeous piece, and looks simple to create.
