Mint spreads. If you don't want it spreading you'll need to plan it in pots.

It could be a squirrel that stole your jalapeno. The little stinkers ate almost all of my peaches. 🍑 I was so excited to eat peaches from our trees and I only got to enjoy one of them. Ugh 😣😫 Squirrels are very crafty and I read that they can just up to 10 feet high. 😩

Squirrels or chipmunks are known for being garden thieves. Our squirrels would pick summer squash or tomatoes and sit up in the trees eating them….watching us!! 🐿🐿☀️☀️

Hi Allison!! I love your channel! 🥰 I’ve been gardening for 20+ years and I wanted to give you some pointers. I am in Nevada so it’s definitely a different climate but I’m sure some of the same rules apply! Pumpkins!!! They love the heat! I plant mine late spring and they do great for fall. Mint is very much an only child and I would suggest keeping it in a pot and not the ground because it will take over and kill other plants, I’m surprised your basil is hanging in there. Lol. I have some mint in the ground and I can’t plant anything within 3 feet of it. Leafy greens such as lettuce prefer cool weather, anything in the high 80s - 90s will cause them to go bitter. I pull mine and replace them with heat loving plants in May!! You can sow leafy green seeds late winter they are pretty cold hardy, same with brassicas such as kale, collards, broccoli. May I suggest the book “Carrots Love Tomatoes” I’ve had mine for over 10 years and I love it. It teaches companion gardening. Also, add some earthworms you can get a container at your local hardware store. One more thing, try smaller varieties, they are so fun and mature faster. I have pumpkins on a stick growing and dwarf eggplants too! I hope this helps!! ❤️

Great growth on the garden! The basil-if you have any leftover, it’s great to freeze them in some water in ice cube trays and then you can just take it out and add it to sauces during the winter time. For the mint, anything in the mint family has to have its own pot because it will take over your whole garden bed. To remove it make sure you get up all of the roots and the runners under the soil or it will keep coming back and taking over.

Calendula is one of my most favorite flowers. I actually cut the flowers off as they open (leaving a few for prettiness), dry them and then infuse them in oils. It makes an amazing oil for your skin if you have dry skin, rash, etc. I have done this since my babies were little (and now they are 30 and 27).

Hi there! I’m in central Florida also,
Your video’s are so inspiring and relaxing to watch Allison! I had mint in my garden last year, eventually it took over the entire garden bed, as it’s very invasive! I’d move it to a separate container asap. I moved mine to a pot and put it on the patio, it smells lovely and the bugs don’t like it!
I’m waiting until October to plant lettuce and kale, the Florida heat is just too intense for them in the summer. Best of luck with your fall garden! 💕🍄🍁

  • @kahlanicayo6962
    @kahlanicayo6962 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Allison, great video! I'm also a Floridian so I know about the gardening struggles we have. I saw that your basil was starting to go to seed, no leaves and just flowers. You can let it go to seed and dry and then harvest the seeds. Or you can pinch the flowers so the plant doesn't end it's life cycle. You may want to really consider potting the mint on its own. As you saw, it lives to spread. You can start seeds indoors and transplant the seedlings when conditions are a bit more favorable. Best of luck and happy gardening! 🌱🌻

Hey Allison, I’ve been a gardener for many years. One comment, you need to cut your plants back. They expend all their energy growing “tall” rather than expensing it on producing. The vegetables, in particular, the tomatoes. It sounds ruthless but keep the strongest chutes and prune the rest so the plant will produce more fruit. Yes, mint is invasive and needs to be in its own space. Also, I fertilize everything weekly. It’s a beautiful little space. I enjoy your blog.💗🌸

I imagine Florida has a cooperative extension somewhere. You cand send samples of your soil and they can tell you what you need to add to amend it and make it better to grow things. Also there are organic fertilizers you can buy to add too. You did good but I think you can do even better. It is a learning experience. You learn as you go. Good luck and God Bless.

I think you are wise to wait to sow your Autumn seeds. So much about gardening is figuring out the best timing for your area. Your yard is looking lovely. 🥰 Regarding pumpkins, the rule of thumb, at least in Arizona, is to plant them around the 4th of July. They can take a long time to mature depending on the variety. Part of the fun is researching what works best in your area. Blessings!

  • @geriv1582

Such a sweet video. If your seedlings don't make it you may want to rethink planting seeds and get transplants instead. This way your garden starts out stronger and you can harvest sooner, especially if this is your second attempt.

My dog (north is year and last) got into my garden and ate peppers before they were ripe…. Sweet ones, jalapeño ones… didn’t matter. She ate them all. We didn’t get to eat a single pepper this year. She would pluck them off the vine. And I only discovered it was her when she brought one onto the deck outside our patio door to eat it. That’s when I saw her. 😮

I had to put something in my grow tubs because when the seeds were young or just planted our outdoor cats were jumping in them. So I put plastic forks & spoons with the handle stuck in the dirt & the fork tine & spoon sticking up. It kept them out. Maybe that would help you. I think it would deter your dog from jumping in. Only until the plants get big enough unless he's still jumping in. Lorraine

They will be ready to harvest when the leaves are around 30-60+ cm long and you can see a little orange from the carrot top at the tip of the dirt. (I harvested the carrots when they were around that length and was happy with the harvest 😊 🌱. Good luck! 🤞🏻

I would put tomato cages in the raised beds, There are pet scat mats for the garden but if you can get him to stop jumping in the beds without doing that think that would be good. For my dogs i use fencing but its not a raised bed. But maybe even some cheap fencing would help. I think the compost will attract him even more because it smells.

Hi Allison, I am thinking about buying the long sleeve shirt you’re wearing in this video. Are you happy with it? Did you size up? Thanks!

I used to give mint to my neighbors. I wonder if you can just harvest and keep it around your house in jars. Make it smell good?

Mint spreads. If you don't want it to spread plant it in pots.

No don't pull your lemons off the tree until they are ripe. You should manicure your Meyer lemon tree and you may have to cut some of the branches off but you'll get more growth later on. In California the lemons aren't usually ready till January. not sure about Florida. Is it a dwarf?

Allison please separate the mint, mint is a weed and it’ll take over everything! Please put it in a separate pot for your gardens sake 😭💗

I would pull the Kale out and start over, it should do better in the fall. I think Palmer ate your jalapenos.
