Plot:
With the help of his elder brother, Sherlock Holmes along with his associate, Dr Watson, ventures out on a mission to thwart the devious designs of their arch-rival, Professor Moriarty.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a 2011 period action mystery film directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey, and Dan Lin. It is the sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, and features the Sherlock Holmesand Dr. John Watson characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The film's screenplay was written by Michele Mulroney and Kieran Mulroney. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson, and were joined by Noomi Rapace as Simza, Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes, and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty. The film follows an original premise incorporating elements of Conan Doyle's short stories "The Final Problem" and "The Empty House".
In the film, Holmes and Watson travel across Europe with a Gypsy adventuress to foil an intricate plot by their cunning nemesis, Professor Moriarty, to instigate a war.

One of the coolest scenes in movie history change my mind
I got nothin
It *is* cool. But it relies not at all on the character of Sherlock Holmes, of why they were in that forest, of who the bad guys were... it is a great scene, the best in the movie, but it could be in any movie.

Slow mo done right. And attaching camera focus to limbs and other objects is a really cool idea. Guy Ritchie did a fine job.
@@Walls2008 I think that this is piece of great cinema. I love this scene, but only thing that kinda breaks the immersion is little Hansel at the end. The accuracy is always weird to me, but I get it's the movie so I'm just going with the flow. Otherwise it's a great set up for a fight between Watson and Military man. Also I think they used right amount of shaky camera and slow mo.

That actually makes more sense than the line about "Introducing Little Hansel" considering they already introduced it at 0:37, firing it at the train car and knocking the wall down.

@@anggazacky2770 Wouldn't say it was the slow mo guys who shot it. Gavin and the company he film company he worked for before moving to Austin for Rooster Teeth filmed it. He was one of the cinematographers for this sequence.

fact: this scene was shot using two cameras with different lenses in a Rig which moves at a whopping 10m/s. for the beautiful slow motion... the magic starts from 1.30

They were filmed using phantom cameras (high speed) and the operator was none other than Gavin Free from the Slow Mo Guys
Marco is the unsung hero for literally carrying Simza on his back right till the end.
My dad but mainly his friends have some military training. We all watched it together and the moment at 4:34, all of them flipped out saying that’s how you do it! Deep breaths to slow your heart rate. Watching them watch this scene was the equivalent as a little girl seeing a real live princess at Disney for the first time.

Is it just me, or is it indeed not the smartest move from military perspective to shoot blindly with long-range artillery into a forest where your own infantry is roaming?
Specially with such a high cost bullet that probably gonna miss the target
Well keep in mind they were throwing everything they had cause they would die if Holmes got away “if they get away you’re a dead man”. Homie could care less if he lost infantry.

I so wish we had at least one more movie. These two were superb, the cinematography is amazing and crisp; wonderful, forward thinking.

I'd love to see this Ritchie back. His recent movies have been a lot of fun but he's yet to do an action sequence to top this. This is extraordinary work with endless re-watch value!

What’s more about this scene - you see the mixture of arms and the change of warfare
You see men armed with regular bolt action rifles the type of rifles used up to WW2, then you see semi-automatic pistols, the 1860’s Gatling gun, the full automatic machine guns, then the artillery - weapons that would make WW1 battlefields wasteland
This movie taught my niece to slow down her emotions and shoot more accurately... What I learnt paying a ton of money 😐😐

I love this scene; i always thing how amazing this scene it is, to show how the world will change forever in the next war, which would started in a few years after those events.

Those fixed and stabilised shots of people's heads and torsos...I don't know how they did it (I assume edited in post), but it's a cool as fuck effect.

Apparently filming this they literally ran through a wooded area in about 30 seconds, and so much of this scene is shown in the brilliant editing and effects

I always have mixed feelings every time I watch this scene. On the one hand my initial reaction is that it's really cool (I primarily like the music). But when I look at it closer it kind of highlights what I feel is a problem in movies now, where they do things because it "looks cool" rather than because it actually serves a purpose.
Serve what purpose lol? They needed a scene where sherlock holmes runs away from the bad guys. This was an extremely entertaining way to do so. Making a scene like this takes tons of expertise and control just to "look cool".
They spent 90 percent of the budget on this scene alone
Utter junk. Peckinpah used slow motion a thousand times better and more effectively. And all the military equipment is pretty much period incorrect.
I love this scene so much because instead of random explosions it actually shows the full force and power of these guns and weapons as they tear through trees.

@@furioussherman7265 well... germany is a giant consumer of western movies and series. i mean one of the largest consumers outside of the USA. ^^ so it's not only possible that germans might see this scene, it could be the second largest audience after native english speakers.
@@Cyro_2235 Dead wrong on that one. The biggest consumer of Western movies is actually China. They're the reason why you'll never see a gay lead character in a blockbuster and why the Michael Bay Transformers franchise got so many sequels despite being utter trash.

After I watched this film and the first one, I immediately thought Guy Ritchie would be a great director for future MCU movies
This feels like a premonition of what going about to happen a few years later, in WW1.
The movie takes place in 1890 if I’m not mistaken. Only 24 years before the First Great World War.
I greatly appreciate how the history of A Game of Shadows ties in with real life revealing that, in the end...

Te first time I witnessed that scene, not gonna lie, i got goosebumps..
This is literally one of the most breathtaking and badass scenes I've seen in a movie. It's incredibly well made and action packed and every movement and explosion is timed PERFECTLY. If I had a list with powerdul scenes, this would be in the top 5

I watched this movie when I very first started smoking weed and this scene honestly blew me away with how good it was, I remember getting goosebumps watching it. I had to rewatch it like 5 times that night and was honestly the best feeling. This scene and movie is honestly one of my faves just cause of that 😜

He was busy with MCU.But it is announced that there will be the third movie.
All actors have been busy and I assume it's been in developmental hell. In other words, they seem very keen on making a nearly perfect script. That sounds hopeful but at the same time the amount of rewrites and their ability to not make up their mind scares me a bit but we'll figure it all out by next year!
I had a nasty anxiety attack when i saw this for the first time, my disability came from a mortar and i didnt realise it but my friends said i was stiff as a board while watching and calling out enemy positions quietly and i remember specifically screaming very loud when little hansel went off and sitting in the fetal position for hours....... this scene is so real....
I'm so sorry man. I hope you heal and get help for your issues. You deserve to be happy and healthy

This Sherlock Holmes is so much better than the Sherlock Holmes series on netflix. Why? Watson here is a partner to Sherlock, in the series he's more of a follower to Sherlock.

...from what I can see, the “little Hansel” was really close to the Big Bertha that the Germans used with terrific results during WWI. Why did they change the name? It’d have been cool to have such an historical reference in the movie...
The Big Bertha guns didn't enter service until 1914. This movie is set in 1891.

Big Bertha took something like three hours to cycle a round. There was no loading one up and firing blindly into the forest! Still, never let petty details like accuracy get in the way of great cinema!

@@tutekohe1361 Big Bertha was capable of firing 8 shells an hour, hardly fast but definitely not one shell every 3 hours.
This is really the only great scene in this movie. Well this and the chess match.
