I love the metronome. It’s the only way I can stay focused and stick with a rudiment workout or whatever I’m working on. Without it I very quickly veer away from my practice goal.

I've been playing for 5 months now. I know this is not good but I rarely practice with a metronome. Now I'm trying to do that and it's stressful haha. It's like I'm under pressure now. Without it I can play all kinds of beats and a few fills. With the metronome I can't even hardly play a beat.

True story about a student of mine hating the metronome. A student who was new at the time told me he hated practicing with a metronome because it always made him mess up. I told him that he was probably messing up all along (in his case, rushing), but just not realizing it until recently (the steadiness of the metronome conflicted with his own sense of time). After a few more minutes of his lesson with the metronome, he threw the metronome at me and never came back. Now I stick to the "rhythm training" method where the metronome plays for a measure or 2 and is silent for a measure or 2...similar to the method explained at 5:00. if the student doesn't align with the click when beat 1 returns then perfect time was not achieved. This way, I can further prove that the student is the culprit and NOT the metronome....and I don't have to explain a broken nose to my friends.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experiences. That’s a pretty good example. I really like to practice that exercise just to see how good or bad 😅 my inner clock is at the moment. At the beginning I am always kinda nervous and I have to try to be more relaxed 😂 //Simon

Hey, I'm getting into finger drumming (on midi controller pads) and I've watched few of your videos. Judging by the quality of the videos and teaching skills I expected that you have over 1 million subs :D Ha ha, you're on the way there anyway, thanks for good info!

@@ThomannsDrumBash It's good, still at the beginning of the journey but I would recommend anyone to have a go at this (find some used midi controller with good sensitivity pads on eBay), even "real" drummers might get something from it, different layout makes you think of different beat variations than on traditional drums as well as recording drums (Addicitive Drums software has realistic sound) It's handy as well at 2AM if you don't want to wake up your neighbours:) Good luck and have fun

When i practice with a metronome, I usually play 30 minutes split into 3 * 10 minutes. First with full metronome. Then 3 bars with and one without. Lastly 2 with and 2 without.

I really like the sound of this snare drum. Sounds very very good. I see there is a list of gear used in the video but it doesn't mention the microphones used to record the drums. Do you know what is it? Nice video by the way.
