Your playing brings the organ to life: I think your connection to the music adds to making the organ infuse the music with your own self. Reminds me of Virgil Fox’s ability to merge with the music. He played the entire works of Bach from memory: not in a technical sense, but by becoming one with the music & that’s what you seem to do. Wonderful playing.

    • @liebermannjan
      @liebermannjan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes. If you look at music as something distant and physically separate from yourself, you can't really interpret or understand music very well. You have to let the music speak for you! You have to connect with it, feel it. That's exactly what excites me!

From the first time I saw one of Mr. Liebermann's videos, it became obvious that the musician and the instrument were connected as a single organism, dedicated to the perfection of the music. It is magical both visually as well as musically.

"....Diese Musik kann sehr viel bewegen...."
Allerdings! Das Wort "Superpower" kommt ja sogar in den Sinn.
      Das grosse Geheimnis aber:
      Was gerade Marcel Dupré
      "une modestie absolue"
      nannte.
      Haste doch. Keine Frage.

Wishing you all the best on your organ journey Jan.
I recently listened to Daniel Roth play the Reubke at St. Sulpice. The audition was performed shortly after his wife died, in 2015. It took my breath away. Most worthy free tuition for any musician.
So many nights the time flew swiftly by with my true love, a pipe organ.

Hello Jan, it is great to see you again on TH-cam. I was most impressed with your recital at Truro Cathedral, which is on TH-cam. Your skills at the instrument are outstanding and as I forecast some time ago, you have a great future ahead of you with this instrument. I hope you will be able to visit Australia at some stage. Your performances are inspirational. What a blessing to have you coming to prominence in the world of organ music! Very best wishes. Geoff

Thank you again and I look forward to hearing more of your journey in future as well as your magnificent and beautiful playing as hope at some time you are able to come and play some of the magnificent organs that we have here in the UK.

Hi Jan, I have just listened to you practicing for the International ‘Young Organist’ competition 2022. I thought your playing of Bach’s Fantasie and Fugue g-moll BWV 542 was absolutely wonderful. I also thought your interpretation was excellent, and your performance an inspiration to all young organists as to what can be achieved, not only through hard work and practice, but by realising the playing the organ is much more than pressing down a key. In a sense, as is the case with all good musicians, the player is attempting to convey to the listener the feelings of the composer. Having listened to you playing a number of Bach’s organ works I certainly feel you have a gift in being able to do this. Finally I think it is wonderful that you will devote your life to the organ, what Mozart called the “King of Instruments,” and to teaching others to follow in your footsteps. I wish you, Jan, every success and warm wishes for your musical future. Are you able to give a little information on the organ shown in this and other videos? I’m assuming it is at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Wherever it is, I think it has a beautiful tonal quality which suits your playing, or, rather, you, through your choice of stops, playing etc, bring out its best. Many thanks

Thanks! The organ in this video is built by Goll Orgelbau. Here is the specification (page 10/11): www.goll-orgel.ch/site/assets/files/2195/mainz_hochschule.pdf

@@liebermannjanMany thanks for the specifications, Jan. I have come to love this organ built by Goll Orgelbau, and the way in which you relate to it. I think you know how to get the best from it which enables you to convey your feelings for a piece of music to the mind of the listener, or to put it another way Herz spricht zu Herz

You remind me very much of Heinz Wunderlich, who served Saint Jacobi. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he was in the USA (Charleston, SC) years ago. It happened to be Max Reger’s birthday on the occasion of the recital and he sat down and played the Fantasy on How Brightly Beams the Morning Star with no music in a manner similar to yours. You have the talent to reach the status of such a world renowned organist, and I wish you the very best in your future. Your playing is exciting and draws the listener into the composition with depth and feeling. Every time I listen to your playing, I am so thrilled by your dedication and the inspiring interpretation you bring to the music. You capture of the soul and spirit of the music. Bravo ❤

Jan. You are a 'natural'. Yes. Being 'in' the music but also the music is 'in' you. Body language shows it. The Reubke. Yup. That's real - and total ambition. You have set the right goal. Can't wait. How about five months for what you want. Or sooner?! Oh and btw - your pedalling is vv good. Foundational and alive in itself.

Playing organ in jeans and t shirt! Love it.
I had never seen that shape of organ before seeing one on TH-cam. I assume that old(?) style was for practical reasons. I had only known the console style so that style looks like the player is facing a wall as punishment. LOL. Thanks for giving us these performances.

You remind me so much of Jonathan Scott who comes from my hometown who is a world famous Concert Organist. I would like to thank you for a performance that was impressive and so enjoyable. Hallo Jan! Gestern habe ich deine Performance der 6 Triosonaten, die mir ganz gefallen hat. Viel Erfolg in deiner Karriere!

4:51 "Being a young student means that you can’t always meet up with friends. That's why I think it's important to have an instrument which you really love." All kids/boys should understand how true these words are: they would learn not to waste their lives!

Wow Jan you pedal playing is amazing - you are young and very enthusiastic which is a wonderful feature- as you mature you will put more expression and add different stop combinations - one day you will get invitations such as Paul Fey is doing and play some of those huge instruments in the USA. With very best wishes for your studies and development as an artist.

hello Jan, thank you for the bach. But try not to fall that early into the trap of making these common organ videos by just showing fingers, stops and fingers again... (have a look how "Ben Maton the Salisbury organist" does it : he is much more humble in his organs, his churches, his music - but has gained 10000 subscribers last month...)
