i have a early 80´s nad amplifier, as i have a 70´s New Acoustic Dimension (NAD use to writte it on older integrated amplifiers as in this new one)with needle power meters , what i can say is that the 70´s one as better sound and cds sound better there .the new one in the 80´s was a mid-range high quality but it sounded steril and the materials weren´t that good , this new one only heard it at a store where they have a litle listening room and there seems to sound good but i doubt it in one´s living room but it sure looks nice but they are suposed to sound good not look good it´s not a jacket, the direct listening is a point that i never understood as not everybody as a good listening room at home , but a nice living room .Using some recent B&W speakers model from 600 0r 700 range or other quality brand like wharfedale or ELAC but there atre a lot of good speakers from several brands also if in good condition they are worse buying them in second hand from a fraction of the price and a lot more variety to choose from compared to new one pays it and sometimes not compatible with the amplifier and on top it´s expensive, if one as not enough money , it´s more afordable to look for good condition receivers or integrated amplifiers with a set of more recent speakers will sing no matter if using a turntable or a cd player as main sources or even spotify ,i have been restoring old cassette decks and after more than 10 years i only record cds , DAT or minidisc but not that often now i´m using a cassette deck ,normally a CT-91a or a CT-959 from Pioneer , a Denon DRM-800a or a nakamichi 700ZXL , the direct drive decks have the problem of not being with the engine working at full strenght mainly, as belt ones ,if one changes the belt normally all work like if it were new ,one ends up only using C60 or C50 cassettes that i have a lot of good ones and when nobody was using them i got some boxes of tdk sa-x and sony ux-pro the others that couldn´t fit in my car were incinerated at a big surface warehouse, and sound better than the minidisc recordings that i use to record compilations to hear in a car i have from the 70´s, the DAT is more expensive format but it´s digital with high quality better than cds or minidiscs as a digital device but cassettes if well built ,in the 90´s only sony and tdk kept release well calibrated cassettes from factory and also Maxell before the light grey casing as they become harder on rotation demanding more strenght from the engine, who puts them out of tune or wear out the engines,also bought cheap some SKC with a golden sticker and for my surprise all sound good today the more recent ones only the chrome ones have quality as today they still sound like when one recorded it and don´t dirt the play/record heads. This will sound good with a good set of speakers ,if possible more than 100DB of sensivety or a bit less as now it´s unsual to see them at more than 86 or 90 DB´s ,this last not that easy to find but the frwequuency response matters more like the lowest is the frequency to the left and higher to the right of the spectrum they are more inclusive at what concerns to heard sounds in a recording no matter if it´s a cd or turntable that this new ones with new cartridges are not as good old turntables from the 90´s till late 60´s with diamond tip stylus, before no matter the brand there was always a good cartridge at afordable prices today are all expensive with lower quality, NAD like Nakamichi built their components with a lot of plastic ,not the chassi but everything else, but at the end this is a good amplifier only a bit limited in inputs or outputs
