Viral sensation Miu Miu miniskirt has been named Fashion Museum’s Dress of the Year 2022.
The ensemble has been chosen by Kenya Hunt, Editor-in-Chief of ELLE UK, to represent the past year in fashion.
First seen on the Spring/Summer 2022 runway, designer Miuccia Prada’s low-waisted micro miniskirt created a viral fashion moment, becoming instantly iconic for its extreme proportions and reworking of the classic foundations of dress.
Now famously known as the ‘Miu Miu skirt set’ it achieved internet-breaking status, with variations worn by celebrities from Hailey Bieber and Zendaya to Chiara Ferragni and Nicole Kidman.
Dress of the Year 2022 will be added to the Fashion Museum’s world-class collection of more than 100,000 objects.

I saw a girl in an outfit like this. It was winter and she looked happy in it but how could bearing one’s midriff to point anyone could reach their hand to your bra be cozy in winter?

The box pleated mini skirt is a sensation, but I can't say the same about the chopped (not cropped) sweater or those awful shoes. I wouldn't be seen dead in them. Sorry, but that's my personal view and I know everyone has their own opinion.

Not something I loved but educational to me to hear about why it was picked. Shame series hasn’t continued. And surely 2024 dress of the year would have to be from the Maison Marghela artisanal show. Or the whole show cos that that whole amazing show went viral which is unprecedented. Which I guess is why this piece is important..
The beginning of viral internet really influencing fashion and vice versa. I’m sold intellectually if not visually.
