Have you heard about Midas PRO-X getting drunk? Console died after one of the people in public threw a beer on it. There is a video about it: th-cam.com/video/5_mhj74pQw8/w-d-xo.html Too bad the beer didn't hit the Chamsys, i don't like Chamsys so much ;-) Anyway, the sound was not muted, the DSP in Midas is actually on stage, and console is just control surface.
Tomorrow I’ll be doing my first MA3 onPC version 1.0 live stream! You can check out the live event on my page. Remember that the live stream will be available afterwards for viewing if you can’t watch it live.
love how you always include the troubleshooting in the videos. With experience of course always comes the knowledge of knowing how to fix certain issues, but with you sharing your wisdom it definitely helps compile the knowledge, thank you for that!
Well, I moved to seattle ~5 years ago, did some freelance gigs for R90 lighting way back then as a lighting tech/programmer. Kept in touch with them and now if they need an extra LD for a festival and I happen to be in town, I'll do one.
I was a grip on the B-shoot mainstage this year for Lumineers/CRJ, the house rig looked really nice! Kudos to Joe Cole and R90. I always hear good stuff about the R90 crew.
I remember one year at this stage, they had a serious technical issue. Everything went dark, and silent, and a few minutes later, we saw the screens come back to life with the Resolume program starting up, then the stage lights. Then, the mic came on and the act that had been playing (Odesza) cam on-mic and explained that they’d “lost power.” Is the stage powered by a generator, or is it power sockets somewhere in the stadium? What would cause a blackout completely isolated to the stage? This stadium is also in serious disrepair, so there could have been a fuse or breaker that cut power off for a second and shut all the equipment down. Also, That name “Resolume” brings back memories of the screens on stage that they could never get set up correctly one year. They had some kind of test screen with measurements and a color wheel of sorts, and they were trying to get the aspect ratio right. However, there was an issue where both side screens would zoom in/out at the same time and so one was never set correctly, From memory, it took a while to fix.
Nice rig Christian .. I started in Australia with the first robotic lighting to hit Australia to rent.. They were just par 64,s which I ran ray light kits in them .. I was about your age then .. Then took on David Bowie and many other big bands .. I,m 60 yrs old now .. I designed alot of huge lighting rigs back in my day . maybe one day I may meet you Christian.. Chris Simmons / Showlite International ..
KeyArena renos supposed to be done in 2021. There's a cozy events space in the Museum of Pop Culture nearby that you could check out (worth the trip otherwise!). Unsure how much of their setup is in-house tho'.
I remember this stage, it was great, and the last Bumbershoot to happen as of today. The stadium kinda sucks but the music was good. I remember the sound system was d&b J and V series with A few Q series and B2 subwoofers, but had no idea about the lighting rig, other than it being impressive in my mind. Some big, and I mean big acts played here, the lumineers, Tyler the creator (was originally Lizzo but cancelled) and Rezz, many others as well. If I recall, this was the year where Jai wolf was booked into the too-small fisher green stage and caused overcrowding, and a fence was pushed over, canceling the show.
Your memory is spot on! It was very interesting with the Lumineers bringing in their entire touring rig via solotech. And yes, that Jai Wolf rebooking onto this stage was a crazy occurrence. I was on stage teching the floor package while he was playing.
What type of switch are you using? it is looking like a standard tplink 8port gbit, but i keep getting session collisions when using mine (might be one managed feature).
Curious.... i’ll start using defaults to fix profile errors - i’ve been fixing the fixture profiles and then exporting them to USB. I’ve had to build a substantial number of fixture profiles for some cheaper end gear that i’ve had to use.
@Christian Jackson, if I'm not using a network switch, which Ethernet port do I connect out of MA2 console to my laptop running MA2onPC and MA3D? Thanks! Hope to learn more tips and tricks from you. :)
you use a full backup for the grandMA ... shouldn't you make a full second network setup so neither a cable break or a failure of the switch can kill your show?
How can i get to become a member of DMX stage lighting and programming them and setting them up? And what is the DMX light's brand name and the light's name's? ( I'm also a DJ too ) i wish i can do that lighting console stuff programming and stuff like that. Bytheway, what is thatlighting software on your laptop to also visualize and conenct and backup etc
Id love to do this for a career! How do you get started on this path? I have always had a fascination for lighting but never knew where to go to get into it.
Have you heard of Beatsaber? Would be awesome if you made some custom lighting in there! Actual professional doing stuff would be really cool and great content for youtube!
Firstly, Dmx is a digital signal whether it’s being run as a serial data link in a 3 conductor cable or over Ethernet. No such thing as analog dmx. You can set MA up however you like. You can output dmx from the console, artnet, sacn, in any combination as long as you have parameters and are a part of a session. The session master is the only one that outputs Ethernet dmx protocols.
Hi now i'm in high school and i'm very interested in light programming in concerts and events and i don't know what to study after high school and work in event companies like you🙏🙏??
A DMX terminator will only save your butt if your fixtures are utter crap. Now, if you have really shitty fixtures.. then I think dmx reflections would be the least of your problems.
@@danrachlin1966 whilst true most would refer a ground package as a part of an artist set. What happened to the rest of bumpershoot vids

Going to do lights for this weird marshmellow

This is the best type of video I think you have done
Like to see more
I'm a volunteer technician in community theater and I love watch these
Thanks for being a great house LD dude. You made my life easy when I got in for my show.
You do incredible work while sharing it all with us. Thanks for including us on all of your amazing endeavors!
Big fan cant wait to see your video!!!
That ending was so smooth
I’m curious how much you get paid tours/ single shows/ programming and festivals 🧐
He said “do it I don’t care (when they were going to shut power to the console)”, and my internet went down 😂
I’m so happy I found this channel
Dude you are amazing!!! I have seen you live before and your one of my favorites.
Really enjoy these videos mate!
Been watching for a while... always great to see your setups. Lots of work goes into these. This is like showing the fun parts. haha

Living the dream, man!
im starting to learn some complicated lightshow thanks to this guy.. Chris thanks alot.
I worked this festival as well! I was doing playback for COIN. Were you working the day the barricade broke?

Great video! Is it possible for someone to bring their own laptop to the concert and then connecting to your session and messing you up live?
I suppose if you bring a network cable and physically connect it to my switch at FOH, sure!
But then I could just add a password to the session.
@@christianjackson Or just disable autojoin.
brave of you to share all this. Big thanks dude
Im an Avo user but really want to learn MA because of you. Learning by the day from your vids. Keep it up!
is this the bumbershoot where the rails gave out and made a human tsunami?
It is! A few stages over...
@@christianjackson also why does bumbershoot elevate the audience?

Hey can you maybe show how your test pattern works? How do you build it?
What type of switch are you using? it is looking like a standard tplink 8port gbit, but i keep getting session collisions when using mine (might be one managed feature).
Dude, get some ethercon to RJ45 jumpers. Taking the end off results in missing bits. :-)

You need to get NE8FFs for connecting to your switch without dismantling the cable!
Just finished building my foh rack and this has been done :)
hello. You can make a video how I connect Resolume with MA and how to configure it

Is there a sound engineer equivelant of Christian?
Dave Rat has some great videos on his channel. Search by his name. Not exactly the same but great, still.
What model is the switch? or which one do you recommend
I see many LDs pull up the MA screens. Does it not damage them since they are motorized ?
Not if you press the screen unlock keys by holding MA and the set key.
@@christianjackson does the screen lock itself after you shutdown the console ?
quick question, when your using analog DMX lines, and want to try Art-Net, does MA switch between DMX and Art-Net automatically?

All structural engineers screaming @7:15 haha
So let me ask how many years will this take to learn from beginner to advanced lighting operator i just started with Showxpress
Really depends on a lot of factors. For me personally it was about 6 years before I started doing larger shows.

Can some please explain to me what ground packages are?
