I would have agreed with this statement up until 2000. It’s clear you haven’t seen the movie in a long time because it’s a really bad movie. Nostalgia couldn’t overcome the stupidity that of the characters and plot.
Allen and Albert Hughes was just 21 years old when they made Dead Presidents. That's amazing mane. Imagine a 21 year old today in 2023 make a movie like that
One of the brothers (can’t remember which one) said in an interview that sometimes he can get lazy on set when directing movies. Whenever you half-ass something, it’s going to show in the final product. That’s probably why he doesn’t like it. Never phone it in.
I think they cant be compared and are equally good at what they portrayed in the time period they captured. Dead Presidents stands out a bit more on soundtrack though i must say. Both very powerful movies, and the scenes that really stuck out for yrs to me was Cousin Harold still twitching on the street after car jacking shooting, visceral and realistic. And then with Dead Presidents, that scene with Chris Tucker OD’d in front of tv while Al Green song plays and his eyes lookin milky blue…just hits hard. These brothers are amazing visionaries and now i see why they were gettin chased by Disney…

They put their lives on the line for us and deserve better. The movie showed me how harsh life can be for a united states soldier coming home from war.

Dead Presidents was awesome. I have no idea what he is talking about?! Clifton Powell role as Cutty! The character Cowboy...Chris Tucker. Tell her Im at where im at and I be where I be! I still say that to this day.
Boys in the hood had a storyline, a single father fighting to save his son against all odds. Menace was just that, a group of young cats doing what they do with little push back from anybody. I thought they were different stories.
Boys n the hood was better because it showed more diversity of life growing up in the hood. Everybody in urban areas isn't gang bangers and dope dealers, if you not from the hood you wouldn't understand. The negative aspects gets over glamorized
I saw the other part of this interview where he said American Pimp was a low point in his career. Damn Menace II Society really was his passion project!

Haywood T. Kirkland (aka Ari S. Merretazon), whose true story was detailed in the book Bloods: An Oral History of the Vietnam War by Black Veterans by Wallace Terry. This is what Dead Presidents is based off of, so there definitely could have been a sequel!
Growing up my parents didn't allow movies w/ violent/graphic content, but they were cool w/ Don't be a Menace as it was a comedy & they were fans of In Living Color; crazy to see Boyz & M2S yrs later after the parody movie about them, all the jokes made sense.
