Great specie's spotlight... I'm just now working with my first planted aquarium, so I really appreciate you sharing this. I ended up with trying water lettuce as my first floating plant and so far so good. I absolutely love floating plants. (I'm not as keen on duckweed... I battled that stuff for years in the ponds in my horse fields and I would have never thought people would put it in their aquariums on purpose...😂) But it does work for a lot of people.. I like the color that this plant can add. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!! I look forward to more videos like this! Thanks again Blake!! 👍❤️🐠🌿🌱✌️
My plant multiplies quickly and has a beautiful red color. What needs to be done to make it bloom? - little water movement; - light 12h; - temperature 24-25 C; - micro and macro elements; - pH 7.6; GH4; KH7;
Hello! Can you share what the other floating plants were around the 4:30ish time fram, that whole Pan? I saw the red roots and duck weeds, maybe frog bit and something else. I’d like to look them all up. Thanks!
I had a bunch of red root floaters. They didn’t last. Was wondering why and how. Finally thought it was my lighting was to strong. Sadly I need more to test my theory lol
Love plant spot lights. Red root floaters look cool in my opinion & I have them in a few tanks low & high tech. My son loves watching my blue dreams going for a ride on them in the surface current. Lol
i started with a small 1/3 cup of the red root floaters and its grown across the top of my big tank and i moved some to my 3 other tanks, the big tank has the right set up cause theyve been growing like crazy and flowering! the other tanks i set up to block the flow like on the big tank and now im just waiting for them to grow or not lol. they have been an awesome plant since i got them. i had a slight die off at the beginning but they settled in and started to grow! i have noticed a slight algae issue. theres a couple like blobs of bubbly algae next to a few leaves across the tank. ive been removing it but besides that its great! once i had a few bunches of the plant i started seperating some of it in different tanks with different conditions to see how they all grow differently too.
i bought a regular led shop light for 2 of my 10 gallon tanks to share, and my big tank i have the nicrew skyled plus. the shoplight is about 12 inches away from the tank and isnt that bright and the RRF are nice and red but they arnt propagating much and the leaves arnt big. the nicrew light i can change the brightness and has almost like a black UV light setting too. but the RRF in that tank they propagated like crazy, flowered and some are nice and red and some are still greenish but the leaves are almost double the size in this tank as my smaller tanks. i made small floating areas out of aquarium hose to contain the plants then once it out grew it i built one to go around the filters flow into the tank so they cant be pushed under water. when i had them boxed in they grew fast and was nice so ill see how boxing out the filter goes too. itll give the plants more room in the tank but i dont want the fish to not have any surface room. my goal is to eventually propagate enough to sell some!
Ive been looking for a new floater plant , this looks like a good choice and I love the red colouration :) I hope the roots don't grow to the ground like it does with water lettuce haha. Great spotlight Blake :)
I added them to my tank and for the first few days the roots were a deep red but now they have turned white. Lighting is good, I’ve been fertilizing, any clue what else I should look at? Right now nitrites are high nearing the end of the cycle
@@BlakesAquatics ah see i aint god no fancy fluvals. Im too poor :P i got some LED kitchen counter lights xD but they are super bright, maybe just a bad spectrum
@@BlakesAquatics great video! I have had RRF for a year and still can’t turn them red except in direct sun. I just upgraded to a Fluval Plant 3.0 and have it running at 75% on everything except blues for 12 hrs. They are still orange/pink. Have you been able to get them red on a higher setting like 100% or not at all with the Plant 3.0?
Nice video mate. Could you please tell me is there any problem if we put heater in the aquarium for growing this plant. Or does it needed to put in the cold water to grow well?
My tank is hooded so im scared its gonna be too close to the light, but its LED and doesnt put out much heat at all so im crossing ny fingers. No store near me had any, thus had to order them. It said it will come with 2 other surprise plants so im excited
I have some RRF and the roots on my best plant has some odd white growth on it. It looks to be some stemmed bacteria and the only way I can describe it is like a dandelion seed, where it stems up and has a white fluffy top. Any clue what this could be or have seen it yourself?
@@BlakesAquatics Wouldn't be food as I only feed my betta floating pellets. The RRF came with my betta from the fish store and its only on that plant, it hasn't grown on any of my others, kind of odd
Just put in 4 pots of those in my tank and there are a lot that are stuck together even upside down in the water. Is this concerning? Shall i cut them apart or will they adjust themselves after a few days?
@@BlakesAquatics Thanks! Well, they grew up and downwards in the cup so thats why i was thinking to just cut them apart. Hope it didnt affect them negatively being completely emersed into water like that.
@@hiarahkimusic3282 I just got red root, I've also got water lettuce. Didn't know they did this to betta... I appreciate your comment. I don't have a betta as I have small schooling fish. But good to know.
I just got some of these in yesterday. Can’t wait for the roots to get nice and bright red. They are all small at the moment
I just found it about these. I love them. My tank is all natural set up. Want loads of plants to help soak up those nitrates. Lol

Plenty more plant spotlights to come 😊 glad you enjoyed
I absolutely love floaters. They are my favorite. Just got water lettuce. So pretty.
Best video talking about them yet ! Thanks I saw my LFS selling some def gonna try them out to contrast my blue betta
Thanks, too kind :)

Absolutely!

Can a twinstar 30b light 679 lumen do the job too get it red?

Thanks for the detailed info! I agree its crazy how diverse the results can be
awesome vid
What light were you using at 4:30 ? I don’t think my hygger led is strong enough because my RRFs are all still green
Its a light by aqua nest, not sure of the specific name sorry

Nah just an inch or so tops 👍 enjoy
if theres droplets on them there will be a magnifying effect and burn the leaves and eventually kill them
@@tyngchinchillachang838 a fairly large drop yeah but if they are very tiny it shouldn't really be an issue
How fast do they multiply I have about 10 of them
Love this plants. Thanks Blake for selling me a bunch. Took me a good 3 hrs picking the duck weed out tho
Guarantee it still appears. Shouldve saved your time
Blake's Aquatics it dose but I pull it every time I see even a leaf. So far so good
How are these manually propagated?
Great job 👍🏽

Iron can help or check that you dint have too much flow/ splashing
Nice video dude! Hey are those (3:00) plants all red root floaters?
Yeah just with some duckweed scattered throughout 👍 cheers
How long do the roots grow? Do they grow longer than frogbit roots?
@@EyezLikaFox̌ no shorter than frogbit, just shy of an inch / 2cm
My floaters are in the green side not much red is that good or bad???
Bad, not the worst though just means you need more light intensity
Great vid...shows my $29 ebay led light is shit. I had a bag full of red root floater and over time it all disappeared.
Yeah ive done the same trick 😂
All of mine is disappearing too 🤣 I have grown tons of plants can't seem to get red root floaters to make it.
Whilst you trial some lights it can be worthwhile keeping some outside in a water filled container to make sure you have some survive
@@BlakesAquatics good advice blake! Tough here in the north eastern united States but a month or two and I will try just that!
They need very little to no flow to properly grow. The slightest water movement is bad for these plants for whatever reason.
I cant get mine to turn a deep red :O I'll get some red tint but no deep red :/ also pmed you two pics :3
Need some super high lights 👍 if i took the floaters away that light would make instamt green water
@@BlakesAquatics ive come some strong LEDs on it :/ guess not strong enough xD dang tank lights up my room at night haha

Usually the faster the growth the faster the nitrate absorption so pretty fast 👍

@@dunghuynh4734 does that mean i dont have to do water changes since this succks up nitrates ?
Ive got some coming the mail..will be here in 2 days but today is day 2 so i really am nit expecting to get them alive. They didjt offer overnight
Hi, can you tell me how fast do they grow/propagate averagely?
I remove half of the surface area of a 3 ft aquarium every week if that helps
@@BlakesAquatics tysm for the information
Nice video mate. Could you please tell me is there any problem if we put heater in the aquarium for growing this plant. Or does it needed to put in the cold water to grow well?
No problem with that, as long as it isnt too hot 30 deg c +++
@@BlakesAquatics thanks mate 😌
Will they separate into individual plants or do we have to separate them ourselves?
they will do it by themselves
@@BlakesAquatics awesome! Thanks. Subscribed too!
I have a question regarding the maintenance of the red root... I would like to know how to get the flowers 😅
Maximum light, think of the most powerful light you know and double that 😅

Can't beat a Red Root Floater....oh nice plant too😈😈😈😈
easy to keep. but hard to get it to color up to red.
yeah need super strong light.
@@BlakesAquatics what kind of light
My red root floater started melting and I hadn't changed water for 1 month, what to do??
It absolutely hates flow, if you dont have much flow probably your lights arent strong enough or they drained all the nutrients from the water
Blake, do you ship to USA?
Hey J Jr, sorry mate nah I dont
I am sure they will block the light and adversely affect growth of anchored plants down below. What's the solution?
Periodically thinning them out
breaking news! Blake doesn't like frogbit! Pretty cool red root, didn't realise they can change so much, gonna get my hands on some of these!
Please time stamp when i said that
