We tried a test last night. Very excited to test it after seeing the you-tube. We sprayed the drivers side of the windshield as the sun set, just as moisture was starting to accumulate on the windshield. This morning, no visible effect, both side were completely frosted over with the 17 degree frost last night. Using the spray again to melt the frost did work this morning. Our spray bottle has an extremely fine spray. the first spray did very little, but after three times, but it did eliminated the frost, turned it to water droplets. My thought are that I didn't put enough on the first time last night, but now I feel it has enough. We'll continue the test tomorrow morning and check again to see its progresses with the more abundant coat of spray. We used 70% alcohol, would like to try it with a stronger solution.
You're supposed to apply it to a dry windshield, if your window has started to frost over it's too late to prevent frost in the morning. Try again with a dry window. It's never failed me. Also it will only melt frost when it has accumulated , not remove it.
@WandaonWheels-ej9rq yeah that doesn't matter. Basically you're saying cleaning your windshield with Alcohol makes it not frost. This is, again, scientifically impossible. I know you mean well and all and just trying to help people. But for this to work, you'd have to let a coating on the windshield. Alcohol is a great cleaner. But it also evaporates very quickly leaving no coating or residue behind. Also leaving no protection from frost.
I gave out to family and friends a pocket sized bottle of alcohol so that they can unstick wipers from windshields or thaw out door locks. Works amazing! Just didn't realise I could it preventatively!
A different way to keep the windshield clear is to put a large piece of plastic across it and the plastic that hangs over the sides, just open the doors, put the plastic hanging over on the inside of the car and shut the doors on it. When you remove it, roll the plastic up so the wet side is on the inside of the roll. Or fold it up and put it in a plastic bag. Dry it later when you have time. .
I also add some dishwasher rinse aid in the windscreen washer tank. It create a thin layer that helps to keep the glass dry (and shiny😊) every time you use it on the windscreen.
Yes, Iso Alcohol is a winner for frost and a variety of other things, disinfecting, cleaning , and heating & cooking in a pinch. Something I don't hear often in the nomad and vehicle dwelling / camping community is .... A " Remote Start" for the vehicle. These are great for a warm up without needing to put a key in the ignition or even be in the car. They can be paired with an alarm system if you want, which i think is a very good idea especially if one is living full time in a vehicle and has most if not all their personal possessions with them. Here in the States an excellent quality remote start installed is between 300-600 $ and if you add the alarm module , 600-900 $ depending on Model and features. I've used a CompuStar Arctic Start for 4 years now and it's been flawless. You just periodically change batteries or recharge the remote fob.
Many newer vehicles come with the ability to remote start already. My Mazda cx5 has a remote start option using an app. It won't start the car if it detects the key in the vehicle, though, and it only runs for 15 minutes. Check the parameters for any remote start kit you install. I remember starting my Nissan and leaving the key in the ignition - the car automatically locked the doors after 60 seconds. Locked myself out a couple times with that car!
I suspect that what is really happening when you do this, is that spraying it on is removing a grime residue on the glass, leaving it much cleaner and this is why the water vapor is not depositing the same. It is the only thing that makes sense to me, because pure alcohol with 1% water, completely evaporates away, unless this is a case where your government requires the rubbing alcohol to be denatured so it is unfit/poisonous for human consumption and in that case, whatever the manufacturer added to denature it, might be leaving behind a residue that further impedes frost formation. Another alternative that I learned from truckers for not only frost but also fog buildup in the cabin, is to use straight shaving cream, the regular (inexpensive) foamy type in the aerosol cans.
I started cleaning my windshield with an alc base item and it works well to get sap off, never added it to a sprayer and used it to fix frost though. Might do that
I bought a really cheap screen cover in Poundland, works a treat and no fear of alcohol stripping paint if spilt. Thanks for tip though handy if I forget the cover and there is always some vodka in the house 😂.

Best thing ever to keep any door from freezing shut is brake fluid. Buy the smallest bottle you can, any type brake fluid, apply it with a rag or paper towel on both surfaces of doors, trunk lid, hood, any place that might freeze shut. Goes on clear, stays clear (unlike wd40 that turns black in spring), and do the same at beginning of every winter. Label it for this use only...not for use as fluid for your brakes (it gets a bit dirty).
"Winter" windshield washing fluid already has alcohol in it, but it is true that you can add more straight alcohol and increase the effectiveness at melting frost, ice, and snow. You don't necessarily need the 99% pure type though, even the 70% which is much less expensive, at least locally in the US it is, is still far more of an alcohol concentration than the winter washer fluid.
A spray bottle of alcohol is a great idea for several uses, including defrosting windows/windscreens and that pesky frozen-closed car door! I pulled the plastic handle off of my truck last Winter trying to open the door after a cold night preceded by rain , which basically glued the rubber seals to the jambs! It took 20 minutes with a hair dryer to warm it enough to let it open. I'm thinking that spraying alcohol all around the edges may melt the ice quicker than that. Thanks for the idea. DD
Use brake fluid on any door surfaces, trunk lid, hood...never freezes, stays clear (unlike wd40)....just label the bottle so as not to use it for your brakes (it will get dirty in the bottle...no good for brakes).
I just use a 5litre plastic bottle that my windscreen washer came in and put warm, not boiling, water in that straight from the hot tap and then pour it over the whole windscreen. Starting at the top and i never have any issues and the heat from doing that clears any ice from the inside of the windscreen also. Old windscreens back in the day sometimes used to crack if people put boiling water over them but putting warm wster on modern heat treated windscreens is no problem.
Thanks, I have always used this percentage for cuts and scraps...it's not had any negative effect on me. I have read that it could actually increase the risk of infection. With that said I am near 60, and have been using it my entire life. ...Maybe I just got lucky for once lol... ❤️😊
I keep a spray bottle of it in my car too and I also use it to sanitize my hands if I am going to eat in the car and use it as a hand sanitizer. I find that you need to periodically check it because the alcohol breaks down the rubber seals in the bottle sprayer and you might leak out and stain the finish inside your car. And don’t apply it to the dashboard like I did because it stains it badly and it’s bad for vinyl surfaces. Certain rubbers that are in wipers are affected by alcohol too, so be a little careful applying it near the wipers.
Thank you ,😊 when it comes to the wipers: In my research it's recommended to use this product to clean the wipers. It will be over a year to break down the rubber, It states you would have replaced them before this happens. It is also recommended to use it on wipers to defrost them. Others here have suggested that it removes paint from your can, however this is not so, it will not remove paint from your car. 😊🥶
I have used the vinegar from a jar of pickled hog knuckles mixed with water' the dissolved fat from the hog knuckles mixed in with the vinegar works really well. I have only tried it on the windshield of my farm tractor out in the pastor so I don't know how it would work for driving on a public highway. Maybe maybe not?
Was there a lot of salt in ithe hog knuckles water? If so that could be part of why it was effective, but it seems very gross and smelly to be leaving behind a solution with animal byproducts in it, on the vehicle, and the vinegar will tend to rust any unprotected metal that it is exposed to.
First off, I would add the alcohol right to a gallon of windshield washer fluid before you fill up your windshield washer fluid and apply it that way. Secondly I would start my car first, and usually I would use something like a credit card or any one of those plastic cards to scrape the inside of the window because that’s the part that takes the longest to get off and you’re not gonna spray that on the inside of your window. It leaves snow on your dash but what are you gonna do wait till your car warms up and your window defrosts on the inside.
I have a thrift store blowdryer in a sturdy home made hilder between the front seats. It runs at half speed, pointed at the windshield. It's far enough away and not so hot that there is a risk of cracking the glass. Also heats up the rest of the car. I run it about 10-15 minutes in subfreezing temps. Regards from Denmark.
Shaving Cream works the best for condensation. First clean the glass with windex , then apply the shaving cream to a lint free cloth and work it into the glass until it dissolves. I do have a video posted about that.
Because, driving long distances over the roads, as a truck driver it is not always available. When driving in different conditions every hour, it is a safety backup.
Great idea, just wondering what would happen if I de ice then a light snow comes in and I have to use the wipers , would that remove it all from the windshield ? thanks....
Sadly it's more expensive and does not work as well. Most of the products that are triple in price actually contain rubbing alcohol in it ...that's the secret .

You are so welcome ,😊❤️🥶
Thank you Wanda

Awesome addvice
Thank you,😊
I am looking forward to trying this tomorrow. Thank you for the tip!
You’re welcome, hope it works for you!
It's my understanding that isopropyl alcohol degrades both the rubber in the windshield wipers and the rubber seal around your windshield.
This is a recommended product to clean the grit from your wipers .
Great video and tip! QUESTION: Why do you dilute it with water? Thank you!
Just saving a penny 😊
Thank you for the info. I’m going to buy a spray bottle and make some. It would make nice gifts for neighbors and friends.
It is a great idea and they will really appreciate it
Wow! I’m going to try this! Thanks!
Thank you, Your welcome 🥶
I just use a 5litre plastic bottle that my windscreen washer came in and put warm, not boiling, water in that straight from the hot tap and then pour it over the whole windscreen. Starting at the top and i never have any issues and the heat from doing that clears any ice from the inside of the windscreen also. Old windscreens back in the day sometimes used to crack if people put boiling water over them but putting warm wster on modern heat treated windscreens is no problem.
Vinegar will also work to remove frost. The alcohol can be used at night to prevent it in the morning 😊
Use a rechargeable window vac on the inside to remove condensation 😊
Thanks , I never thought of that before.
Will be awesome! Thank you

Thank you for sharing.
You're very welcome! 😊
Thanks I will give it a try.
Heavy warnings not to use higher than 70 for cuts and wounds.
Do u have any experience otherwise?
Thanks
Thanks, I have always used this percentage for cuts and scraps...it's not had any negative effect on me. I have read that it could actually increase the risk of infection. With that said I am near 60, and have been using it my entire life. ...Maybe I just got lucky for once lol... ❤️😊
Excellent😊
Thanks
Great To Know,Thanks a Bundle

Your Very Welcome😊😊
I'm desperate lately. My windshield is a mess every morning. Vinegar has not been working. Thank you.
This will work for the frost and break up ice from freezing rain.
Thanks for sharing 🙏
Your welcome 😊
Love a bit of Hocus-pocus me ❤..
If course
Awesome, thanks for sharing 🫶🏼
Your very welcome 😊😊
Thank you going to try it

I have used the vinegar from a jar of pickled hog knuckles mixed with water' the dissolved fat from the hog knuckles mixed in with the vinegar works really well. I have only tried it on the windshield of my farm tractor out in the pastor so I don't know how it would work for driving on a public highway.
Maybe maybe not?
Interesting tip 🥶😊
Was there a lot of salt in ithe hog knuckles water? If so that could be part of why it was effective, but it seems very gross and smelly to be leaving behind a solution with animal byproducts in it, on the vehicle, and the vinegar will tend to rust any unprotected metal that it is exposed to.
Reminder - if using water to defrost glass never use use hot water - use very slightly warm water.and squeegy it off immediately.
NEVER HOT WATER AS IT COULD SHATTER YOU GLASS.
Going to give that a try.
It will work if you spray it on a dry windshield at night.
Question……how about using the windshield wipers during the rain? Do the wipers remove the defrosting solution?
Yes , you would need to reapply at night on a dry windshield.
@@WandaonWheels-ej9rq ….thank you. I had assumed that, but then wondered if windshield glass had pores or other properties that I don’t know about.
Wow. Thank you!
You're very welcome ❤️🥶
Great tip, thank you. 🥶
Brilliant!
Thanks
I put a big towel on my windshield , works for frost or snow.
What hint do you have to keep fog off inside of your windshield if the defroster isn't working properly? Thank you very much.
Shaving Cream works the best for condensation. First clean the glass with windex , then apply the shaving cream to a lint free cloth and work it into the glass until it dissolves. I do have a video posted about that.
Wouldn't alcohol dry out window wiper rubber ????
Alcohol is recommended to clean them.
Thanks❤❤❤
Your welcome ❤️
Here in Oregon it would wash off every day ha ha
Ok
Because, driving long distances over the roads, as a truck driver it is not always available. When driving in different conditions every hour, it is a safety backup.
Yes ,😊
Will try. Thanx for posting
Your welcome 🤗
Great idea, just wondering what would happen if I de ice then a light snow comes in and I have to use the wipers , would that remove it all from the windshield ? thanks....
You should not have to reapply in that situation.
Just get a windshield protector they have alot of good ones at canadian tire
Sadly it's more expensive and does not work as well. Most of the products that are triple in price actually contain rubbing alcohol in it ...that's the secret .
