A video of The Cool Ghoul (Dick Von Hoene) and Batty Hattie Hattie from Cincinnati congratulating Sammy Terry from Indianapolis on his 10th anniversary.
A lot of GREAT MEMORIES! Thanks for posting our late and great Dick Von Hoene (spelling?) I watched the Cool Ghoul religiously on weekend nights. Between him, and Bob Shreve, I would laugh my ass off, when I was 10, 11 years old, and later! I still have many fond memories of Cincinnati television. I'm thankful that it was there for me during the late night, early morning hours!
I guess anyone in their 30s and and older in the Cincinnati tristate remembers the Cool Ghoul. He was one of a kind, and a Cincinnati fixture. It's just not Halloween without him. RIP Dick.
alman54 oh yeah, I remember " Scream In".......with the Cool Ghoul, 9:00 pm channel 17 in Cincinnati. I was 16 years old and every Saturday night I would pop popcorn and plop in front of my black and white TV and enjoyed the fun. No matter how old i get, I will always love and remember the Cool Ghoul!
24 here, I remember him a little bit, but I definitely remember when he passed away. He was the first person I had ever heard of passing away, so his death literally taught me about death.
He interviewed me about 10 years ago when I worked at St. Rita's Haunted House. I was in full costume and he was the 'Cool Ghoul' again. He was a cool guy. I was sorry to hear he passed.
I love how he says groovy and gives a peace sign really shows you how long ago this was i love it i love the 60s and 70s and to have this from right here in my own area where i live its great
We lived about 50 miles outside of Cincinnati and could barely get 19. Fortunately, on certain nights, dad could adjust the antenna, and we could get Cool Ghoul. It was awesome.
watched him every saturday night when i was 11-12. the wind had to be blowing a certain way for us to get good reception. channel 19 was the coolest tv station ever, nothing today is anywhere as much fun.
oh my God...growing up..first thing you'd do when u got off the school bus was turn on Baddy Hattie from Cinncinnati...Teaser, Snarfie are Dog..Nasty ole Thing...all the cartoons..especially Speed Racer...wow..I wish someone would post more Larry Smith's puppets...and the Cool Ghoul...Friday nights...hosted scary movies right before Fright Night would come on and show more scary movies...those were the simple days...what a rush of memories,,,,,
Cool Ghoul on channel 19 in Cincinnati Ohio and Dr. Creep on channel 22 in Dayton Ohio were two of the best horror movie TV host , and after school cartoon TV host for the kids. There both very much missed. I loved watching them both. Either after school watching cartoons or the horror movies on the week ends. They both passed away pretty close together. And they will both be very much missed may they RIP
between 1968-1974 it was a battle to watch cool ghul or dr creep... hatty the witch or club house 22... but hell you aint no buckeye if ya don't remember skipper ryle!!!!!!
I loved watching Cool Ghoul in Cincinnati Ohio and Dr Creep in Dayton Ohio growing up in the 60's & 70's. And it would be nice if they would release there videos on DVD. I didn't get to watch those guys after my parents moved our family to Texas in 1977. I watch Svengooli on Saturday Night on MeTv. He is cool to watch. And I like Tales from the Crypt and Elvira. They to are funny and very good horror movie TV host to watch. Tales from the Crypt his laugh and horror movie jokes awesome. Svengooli Elvira and the Crypt you can get on DVD. But they should put Cool Ghoul and Dr. Creep on DVD as well. Because I would buy them if they were available.
I used to work with Larry's twin brother Gary, at 3 Rivers Jr. High School back in the day. He was a teacher there back in the 70's. I think he was somewhat ashamed of the job that his twin brother had. Larry very seldom ever got paid much money and had to rely on others help him out.
I remember this guy as when I was a kid. He was a bit lame, but you had to be back then. If you remember Alice Cooper & Frank Zappa were way over the edge with their music and comedy. All of these videos here really bring back my Cincinnati childhood memories.
Anyone remember how your antennae could pull in channel 7 Dayton if the atmosphere was right or whatever. Channel 7 had great movies. Bob Shreve Nite Owl Theater did too on channel 5 on Saturday nights (I THINK it was Sat. nights, that's going back to 1970 for me).
How can I get a few clips of the cool ghoul on a disk so I can give it to my boyfriend for Christmas??? It would be the perfect gift because we went to grade school together and both loved the cool ghoul..
@@tuttt99 Yes I use to get home from school everyday and watch Hattie the Witch show, and Cool Ghoul on weekends, then the Past Prime Playhouse I think was the name, with I believe Bob Shreve, can't remember exactly and Paul dixon in the mornings.
I have searched. With no luck. When you try to tell people about the commercial and they think you are making it uo. I'm also looking for Harry's Carpet..." I dont care a out making money, I just love to sell carpet"
Hey there! I started a little appreciation page for the Cool Ghoul on Facebook. If you are on Facebook please check it out and join it if you are so inclined! Would love for you to post some stories about Scream-in (behind the scenes stuff). Look for the "Cool Ghoul Appreciation Society". Cheers!
How much do you want for the poster? I'm willing to buy it for almost any price (if it's in good shape)if you are willing to part with it. I can't one find one on e-bay so, I know it must be worth a lot.
I remember back in the early 70's, Larry Smith hung out at The Side Door Lounge in downtown Cincinnati. He used to get really drunk a lot and go home with other men. I always thought about that and could not imagine what strange ideas on his show, he was placing in children's minds.
I'm 56 and it brings back memories of my childhood in Cincinnati.
Same
I remember seeing him all the time at the richwood flea market. He was such a kind person.

I used to live on the same street as the Cool Ghoul as a kid. I would play with his daughters all the time.
Just saw they bulldozed that groovy house. 😐
He came to my school. Such a nice guy.
So awesome! Thanks for reviving the memories!
I love the Cool Ghoul and Hattie the Cincinnati

Hattie the Witch from "Larry Smith Puppet Club", Larry was a pioneer.

The brothers in South Avondale would watch the Kool Ghoul while smoking weed and drinking Orange Flip.

I'm also looking for Harry's Carpet..." I dont care a out making money, I just love to sell carpet"
I think that "Svengoolie" from Metv was sort of influenced by him.
