  • We are all so spoiled with affordable Anamorphic options now, but theres always been compromises. From variable stretch factors to inconsistent sizes. Well the new Laowa Anamorphic 1.5X lineup pretty much kills all of those compromises while giving us this insanely light and small form factor.
    You can catch the launch here! www.indiegogo....

    You said it right there….. SMALL & SOLO… a lot of film makers currently are NOT a studio crew set up of 100’s (UNREALISTIC BS Hollywood expectations)…. A lot of the future film makers of tomorrow are SOLO operators which is FAN TAS TIC !!!! So it’s a natural work flow to go SMALL, LIGHT & think super creatively on location. I just saw where the Sony FX 3 (a camera snubbed by most film industry DOP’S as being not a true Cine cam who are used to the Alexa LF or Sony Venice) the Sony FX 3 got accepted into the NetFlix APPROVED cams category.🎥🎥👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼YES !!! Film makers of tomorrow. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼It’s waiting for us & now has never been a greater time to be a film maker / story teller.

    The compromise is they look like spherical lens. round bokeh, anamorfake solid flares, no barrel distortion. For people who want to shoot anamorphic format but still look like regular sharp modern lens, then it makes sense.

    • @cammackey
      @cammackey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. These still have a great anamorphic look. Yes it’s not has strong as a 1.8/2x stretch. But this is a solid choice for commercial clients who don’t want that softer/more character type look. Like most of the stuff I shoot has to be clean. So 1.5X is perfect for that. Can still get a “cinematic” look out of it. But yes of course nothing beats 2x

    • @wkghrs
      @wkghrs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cammackey I don't think we disagree on this lens being made for a more mainstream or commercial-client market. There's larger ROI on this lens design. Image consistency and predictability take priority over stylization-the key traits that anamorphics are known for.
      To reduce costs Laowa has to get demand at scale. Most people aren't going to look at barrel distortion and unpredictable light bouncing off the front element and accept that as a feature. they'll think is a bug.

    These lenses catch my intrest.
    I love that these lenses are design to stay the same stretch factor at any focus.
    Im also glad they allow you to pick your lens flare color preference because I am not a fan of orange anamorphic lens flares.
    Sirui really did open a flood gate of consumer friendly anamorphics.

    Would love a video on how well these work on the R5C since it has built in desqueeze for 1.5X and I think It can do the wider sensor width of 8192 or 4096? So that would mean less zooming in post to get 2.39:1 right? Also maybe something about how you handle these clips in resolve. Basically like how you apply the desqueeze and how you set up the project and timeline for editing etc.

    Is there no vignette on these lenses when used on full frame? I thought they were designed for APSC/Super35 sensor size? Or have you cropped in a bit?

      Full frame on the canon had some bad vignetting. Not he komodo you have to crop to 3:2 for a proper destretch and theres no vignettings

      Yes, it can! You will have to "De Warp" the image in post using photoshop or some other program, but you will end up with a photo with a wide scope. Jorden drake from DP review did an episode on the Vazen 27mm where he actually did some anamorphic photography if you are interested :)
