3500 bucks and nice review and your hair looks good so I subscribed. Also when you mentioned Bryston I want to hook it up to my 4BSST that are driving the LRS and then hook up these two REL T5s I think you are onto something with ear speaker/sub you need two though
Please do a review of Raal Requisite SR1A and Schiit Jotunheim R combination. Shall pull the trigger post your review. 😎 Virtually no content anywhere on this combination yet. Thanks!
Your recent review of the Quad S2 ribbon monitors is expressing all the characteristics and faults I found to the full range ribbon Sr1a open ear headphones. I am thinking of trying a tube preamp to tame the sibilance.
I understand the concept of EARSPEAKERS. In 1977 I bought the STAX SR44 Electrostatic EARSPEAKERS and in 1983 I upgraded to the STAX SR-Lambda. The quality of sound from EARSPEAKERS is so good it is almost beyond description. The three dimensional sound stage and resolution are absolutely stunning.
I am waiting for the Schiit Jotenheim R that’s made specially for these bad boys! And you don’t need the interface box. From early impressions it’s quite the combo. I can’t wait to get them.
Your my kinda audiophile.. I too designed two 12 " high end low z Oz subwoofers .in this system both subs are mounted each to a thick oak panel that sits on floor mounts with the subs right at ear level approx 1 foot away on each side of me .. I am using two heath- electronic crossovers set @ 40hz - 16db slope and the rest of the frq division goes direct to the Stax T1..this sub system i presently use with My Stax- T1 and the lambda signature ear speakers that is set then to and for upper basses to lower to upper mids right up to upper high frequencies..those subs do absolutely match beautiful to perfectly with the electrostatic earspeakers...its like im there at a concert Or yes sitting inside a huge cathedral church with a very large pipe organ that is so realistic - it so daunting at times..
Just checked lottery numbers..no luck. So THESE will remain as a dream :P And good work on the channel - i think the quality has improved a lot since the early days.
100 watt amplifier for ribbons that are directly on or or just a few inches away from your ears? I can't imagine needing more than five watts to get those ear piercing
The raal is so good! But the lack of sub bass, that of the abyss/lcd-4 is a deal breaker for me. But then again I much prefer headphones over speakers.
Why do you prefer headphones over speakers? I'm only askong because I just figured out im the opposite. I have hd800s, zmf eikons, and other cans with an amps and sound tube amp. I went and started building a 2 channel system out of curiosity and found that the visceral feel of speaker is much more involving to me.
@@jonberg469 I would say I prefer the headphones as they're more visceral, ones that can do bass well, the hd800 is to me more speaker like because everything is just there in front of you floating but doesn't really impart the soul of music to your soul. I prefer the in head imaging as when you close your eyes it is quite engrossing even if it isn't as accurate. I guess it depends on quality of headphones, even high end systems easily fail if the synergy isn't right which imo is the most important aspect of any system.
@@RyuMasterEX agreed system matching is key. Interesting its hard for me to beleive sound staging of any headphone now. Even the hd800S is no match against a proper set up 2 channel system. But maybe my brain is not properly trained to hear headphones in that regard. Thanks for the response.
Not a headphone guy either. Thanks for suggesting my next mini monitors. Will wait for trickle down effect. Then pounce. My neighbors and wife thank you too for late night sessions.
Awesome review. Great to see something new. I'm wondering how you'd go on public transport blasting out death metal to other travelers with your head speakers. I listened to this with my $50 Phillips cans. But thanks. Really enjoyed it. Power to you.
Nope. They are off-ear headphones. Just because you can swivel the drivers forward, doesn't change the fact that they rest on your head. Resting on your head is what actually defines what a headphone is, not their interface with the ear. My point of reference are AKG K-1000s, which swivel nearly identical to the RAALs. You can technically change the cups on a pair of Grados and create the same off-ear style.
I almost got these till I tested the radiation level with my EMF meter. it is through the roof. ANyone who is willing to risk having their brain fried/get cancer at a young age in return for audio pleasure is crazy.
Everyone has different taste in sound so if you can’t make up your mind it must mean you are not sure what to settle with and trying to sound like you know more than the average consumer so all you are doing is just explaining and that is what we can all do. 😉
You should suggest that to the company! to put subwoofer built-in, you could use those little laptop drivers as subwoofers behind the ribbon tweeters crossing it over at what you say 80 Hz
@@Jayiyagi yes it should work well it's quite a big chamber there only three surface mount components needed to make a low pass filter, is it open back or closed back. Don't take the credit tho a joint effort ha ha
Not very funky. Go back in earspeaker history youngblood! AKG, Quad, Stax, had similar phones.. Prefering ear-headphones isn't that unusual, generationally speaking.
@@sdads7531 Nope, but he has...Elsewhere he was asked how they compared to STAX & he said STAX were more intimate & RAAL more like speakers...If you like RAAL's speaker sound, why not get full size speakers with RAAL tweeters??....They're cheaper than $3500...As are many STAX....
@@orangeruffian because the sr1a might sound better than full size speakers. using these cuts out room acoustics which with any full size system is 50% or more of what you actually hear. not everyone can have a dedicated sound room with full acoustic treatment

I share your feeling. I would be interested in trying the Raal in my set up but the price tag looks prohibitive
RAAL SR 1a earspeakers MSRP$3,499 as shown on their website with free worldwide shipping

Would a Chord Ultima 5 be a good amplifier pairing with this?

It seems you're using the best. Then, are you still interested in other headphones?
How is it vs Stax?
Can't compare it. Raal sounds totally like a speaker to me while stax is way more intimate
Would be interesting to compare it to Stax Sigma, which is the most speakerlike sounding Stax headphones ever.
That's really cool. A Near Field monster... I went to website and checked them out. I totally get it. Bet those are amazing.. ✌️
✌😂
How does it compare to HE1000 ?
Raal sr1a blows any he1000 versions out of the water.

Ask please $500 bookshelf speakers at that price range in terms of best sound quality!? Thanks
Why didnt you compare them to other earspeakers like stax?
stax is an electrostat headphone..these are ribbons...
I got a question asking stax vs these and I answered them in the comments. Check em out.
