I think it's because of the reworked Concentrated Energy Now it works like War Axe, that you gain bonuses the more you stay in a fight It really compliments with his mechanic as a continuous dps hero

I have spammed him this season and got to mythic for the first time. 80 matches, 75% win rate. I mostly take sprint with me, to carry the extra escape option or even chase down enemies. But yeah, if you have hard cc tanks like Atlas, Mino, Tig, or even Franco, it's as good as it gets. A good tig and valir can be the worst enemy of jungler in the early game.
The thing is that he could build semi tank and still deal a good amount of dmg while continuously annoying the fk outta everyone and this makes him hard to kill

As a valir main even before his buff and the new emblem system, valir was criminally underrated especially against the tank jungler meta, but I think what made him even worthy of the ban section is similar timing for his buff which gave him spell vamp and more ways to retain his first skill, and the emblem system made it so that he can have talents for movement speed, spell vamp, and burn damage at the same time.(which in turn increases his sustainability in teamfights)
Pro tip on how to make Valir even more annoying to enemies while building tank and making him hard to kill. After getting IQW + Glowing Wand, get Thunderbelt for added another slow effect after casting any skills while dealing aoe true dmg from basic atk as well as having a bit of CDR and mana regen, get Guardian Helm for HP regen, next is either Antique Curiass or Athena Shield or Immortality depending on team comp, last is replace Demon Shoes for Blood Wings for late game dmg. For battle spell imo is sprint for easy escape since most enemy team on high rank will have dive jg in which they can catch him up easily and die from them even after using blink. For emblem is mage emblem while talent is set to agile, festive of blood for spell vamp increase per kills, and either impure rage or lethal ignition.
I miss his old SS where he summons this circle that does an earthquake and exploding fireballs. I really prefer that than this SS of his where he buffs himself :( anyone of you guys remember his old ultimate? Hehe
I prefer his new ult, even though his ult back then was a great skill for teamfights his new ult now is good because it's a mini purify skill plus the fact that it enhances your skills and amplifies it's damage makes it a great kit for escaping and being annoying at the same time

Been using valir for so long even before his adjustment and he can easily dominate both exp and mid lane. Since he's cc based hero, I prefer building him semi tank because it really doesn't matter if I can't burst the enemy down. If they can't kill me then I can burn them slowly anyway. It's unfortunate that valir suddenly blew up and got banned every single matches so suddenly. I hardly get to use him now.
i use impure rage as core talent together with festival of blood, and agility/weakness finder/rupture, then demon hunter shoes, glowing wand, ice queen wand, concentrated energy, queen's wings, and starlium scythe, three hits is all i need to melt the tank and maintain health
Everytime I met Valir, people tend to forget that the new rapid boots adjustment really help to tone the slow effect down making it less annoying when facing him
Few days ago a s5 troll pick (2md mm Layla) forced me to go semi tank with Valir and it worked well in combo with our other mm. Would still prefer a tank or support for roam, but at least it's possible to adjust a bit with Valir when there's a troll in the team

Can you do a video on zhask (including pointing out his bugs)? bug list: TLDR: Zhask's spawn counts as both a creep and hero unit at the same time and the wall hitboxes suck. (I noticed that the damage problems seem to affect all summoned units, but neither sun nor vex seem as badly affected as Zhask, but please correct me if I'm wrong). Can we get a zhask bug fix? His spawn takes full damage from both retribution and dhs (which makes helcurt one shot my ult or me and my passive, and it takes two instances of damage from cursed helmet, one normal and one 350%) and he can't ult in minsi's anti-dash field under any circumstance, even when its an on the spot morph, the wall's hitboxes are just broken(I often clearly teleport over a wall and stay on the same side), if you activate his ultimate but subsequently die before morphing, the ultimate goes on cooldown despite the fact that it hasn't really been cast (I think most of us would love i-frames during the morphing phase- between triggering and being in it) and all in all its just annoying to play sometimes.

I've always found Valir to be extremely annoying for like an absurd amount of time; the extreme slowness paired with IQW, spammable 1st skill with the stun, a knockback skill that basically renders close ranged heroes useless and a purify ult that boosts BOTH the skills makes him a huge exasperation to deal with.
His best counter is joy because her whole kit is to counter slow heroes lol dash,cc and slow immune and high damage also her passive removes valirs passive
