Talented, insightful and so relatable. Blanchard is true open-minded artist. Undoubtedly his artistic and profitable breakthrough will open doors for many other musicians who are female and people of color to be equally successful. Bravo!! 🎵🇺🇸🧡
There are many others who have spent their life as classical composers who are still ignored. Why did this take so long? Oh, right. Traditional opera audiences are dying off and they are realizing they need to wake up and cater to broader audiences.
Remember, this great, talented man has been the go-to musician for Spike Lee's film soundtracks going on nearly 40 years now! From SCHOOL DAZE to BLACK KKKLANSMAN, Mr. Blanchard always knew what notes to play. And when to play them. A tip of the hat to you, sir...
Thanks CBS and Mr. Blanchard for all the movie soundtracks and jazz music; thanks for allowing this co-created opera to be exhibited so that everyone has a chance to choose righteousness over injustice; to roar at the false accusers instead of, when provoked, blackmailed, bribed, corrupted, hurt, harmed or aggrieved, roaring at Jesus Christ who is truth and light.( Jeremiah 20:9; Jeremiah 12: 7&8). Amen.
I must add: did anyone else notice in this brief piece featuring some of the scenes from the Opera by Mr. Blanchard, that the 'backdrops are A.I (artificial intelligence) controlled' and not the usual hard-lightboards? Btw: Kudos to HBCUs such as Tuskegee that allowed William Grant Still's musical creativity to be productive and to this day honors his music with an annual Music festival there. All glory to God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit forever in the name of Jesus Christ who is truth, light, the way and endures.
This is great news. I a little far from the Met in Phoenix. But this would have been nice to see. And about time if something is good it is good no matter wow dose it.
I think that Terrance Blanchard is a very talented musician who wrote a play that only a closeted bisexual man could make. It's endlessly compelling but also constantly congratulates minstrelsy, sure it's cheeky and swears it's towing the line in its black traumaporn narrative but it unfortunately wasn't something I found spiritually enriching as a black trans woman and artist. Follow me for a very scathing review lmao
@@edwconr Absolutely but I hate how people of the past got rejected with such a dismissive way. White folks refused to see the talent but the color. What a waste (of time).
@@karlhingus7118 Watch the video again and you'll see what the jazzman who hold that book says. Very revealing. Listen carefully, btw I don't see where I'm patronizing.
I was at the last performance and it was life changing. I even got to meet Terrence Blanchard. I will always cherish that experience.
I can only hope🙏🏽
Risk-reward. Thank you Terence for staying the powerhouse you are!
Wow!!! Thank you for your contributions Terrance Blanchard.
What a gift. My mom sang opera

@Sassy SLS What makes you think that “Traditional opera audiences are dying off”? Guess you’re trying to create a fictional narrative.
I luv opera. Such a beautiful art.
This is a serious NATIONAL TREASURE of a man.Sophisticated and dedicated.Get his latest album with his group.

I've only seen a few operas in my lifetime, and I am certainly no expert, but those tiny snippets moved me and I wanted more.
Great piece!
I.Love.This.So.Much....Not just a seat at the table but a stand-up and applause 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Fabulous!

Black people are so talented.
Talent, like time, treasure and thoughts of human beings, do not discriminate by race.
