I've done MMA and BJJ and there's definitely some sneaky tactics coaches teach into mma fighters to catch opponents with elbows/knees in scramble situations. I had one striking coach teach me to throw kicks as a knee first then extend the kick in case they drop for a takedown you can catch em with a knee on the way in. Another coached me to follow a hook punch with an elbow in case they pull back then come back in. I can imagine a grappling coach figuring out that in a standard 2-3man tackle u can position your elbow to collect the head on the way down and look accidental. Especially the ones in melbourne who came up with the idea of choking players in tackles to wear them down.

How to stop dirty play? Bring back the biff. Didn’t see to many people roughing up knights or broncos players when paul harrigon and Gordon Tallis were on the field. 100% trained behavior. Early 2000s under 20s at the sea eagles training was wrestling training, where I said rugby league is tough enough without elbows across the face as you are getting up of the ground... needless to say my career didn't take off when you challenged the coaches on this topic
Should have done something about players using their elbows in tackles years ago. You see it all the time, not just striking - choking with the elbow as well. Players get away with it so it just becomes a part of the game. Kaufusi just happened to nail him clean enough to KO him.

Look at rugby union, hits to the head are immediate 10 minutes, with force and no mitigating factors is immediate red card. Kaufusi, Feldt and Watene-Zelezniak all get sent off and these incidents all greatly reduce. If the game really cared about about player safety, they'd crack down on head shots, but at the moment, it seems they're just pretending to care.
More players on the field in Union means a red card/send off has less of an impact. Rugby League games are seriously scewed if there is a player missing. Far more than soccer, AFL or Union.

After kafusi knocked out the eels player he gets the ball and runs at number 3 for eels and hits him in the jaw leading with the elbow and that went unnoticed.

What they need to be asking, is how does the victim get more time off than the offender??? this could, and should to used by coaches from now on, just sacrifice a forward for the game, cos u could be sin binned if the ref is decent lol, and make sure he lines up a half-back and take him out with force that he sits out 4-6 weeks with injury, and ur guy misses out on 2-3 weeks suspension. Send off is too harsh and Sin Bin is too soft. Perhaps a penalty somewhere in the middle, Send off the guilty player and after 10/15 minutes they can be replaced. So the guilty team goes to 12 men for 10 minutes and then also lose an interchange.
If this happened to any team other than the Panthers, Roosters or Eels nobody would care or even if JWH or Nathan Brown, two of the dirtiest players in the game did this nothing would be said

The nrl is falling apart because of all the head nods and winks and under the table deals with former players etc who come in and don’t make any real significant changes to the game and just cut and run or get dumped soon after
