What do bboys exactly do to react to their opponent in a battle? Do they actually change their set? Is there more than just gestures?

Will T. In a battle you are basically having a conversation through your sets...if they do a move that you know you can do then you can do it right after they end but add something to make it different...thats like saying "oh you did that but I can do it better" same with a them crashing, if they crash in their set trying to do something, take the move they crashed and just do it cleaner...Also if you can tell that they are going to do something, do it while it is their round, its called stealing rounds but it may be seen as disrespectful..You can also tap the floor when they crash, count out how many times they do a move if they repeat, call out a bite with the bite sign and other stuff too..when they end their set, you want to come out immediately and if they have their back turned to you, just do some uprock behind them while they are walking...a good solid set would be toprock, footwork, power and then you end in a freeze and you want to make sure they freeze is clean and sharp so they can't call you out on it or do it better...just a few things you can do in a battle, hope I helped

Jathun Soma Pretty much everything he should know hahaha. Also, just to add to the "I can do this move better" thing, I read somewhere in an article that pulling out a better version of the certain move is a sign of respect in the battle. You've basically said what there is to say hahaha. So in general, a battle is a communication between the dancers. We use these specific signals/movements (Bite sign, Tap the floor, etc.) to communicate to each other, the judges and the crowd (because some of the crowd are bboys or people who have been following the dance.)But the best part is the end of the battle where all dancers in the battle give a sign of respect by approaching their opponents and hugging them to show their appreciation, humility and humbleness. SO DON'T FORGET TO SHOW YOUR LOVE AT THE END OF THE BATTLE SINCE IT LOOKS DISRESPECTFUL TO JUST WALK AWAY.
