PSA - They do not have their own AI models, they use ChatGPT and Perplexity AI. When ChatGPT had an outage 2 days ago, the rabbit r1 was not working. It's a literal brick if ChatGPT goes down.
I honestly wish they would let people use ChatGPT4 on it. Because I know they are using 3.5 API. It would make the Rabbit R1 100x better if they let you sign in to your ChatGPT account (since I have ChatGPT Plus) and use it for prompting, vision, and voice. I tested my Rabbit R1 against ChatGPT4 and the Rabbit R1 just gets completely obliterated against ChatGPT4 because it answers questions FAR more accurately, identifies images a LOT better, and it's more human-like in it's responses which feels natural, especially when using OpenAI's voice feature to carry a conversation with it about a topic.

@@robertluong3024 I meant for them to add it as an option to log into your OpenAI account to access ChatGPT4 (especially if you're already paying for it) and also as an option for those that are willing to pay for it. Otherwise they can continue to use the default one at no additional cost. It would just be nice to have more options to what models you use when using the device.
@@robertluong3024The API is not free, it depends on the specific version of 4 you are using, but 3.5 is around a 10th the cost of the 8K tokens GPT-4, if I remember correctly.

They tried so hard to make you forget the existence of smartphones, because obviously everybody can see this is just an smartphone app in a shiny box.

EXACTLY. The hardware offers nothing that a smartphone can’t do. This device would have been impressive in 2005.
It isn't just an app.
It runs a modified version of Android that allows Ai to interact with any app on the device.
It's just a bad implementation of the idea.

Honestly, this would've been a GREAT mp3 player, if sold for maybe 100 i do think it would have done fine. Yeah i know i cna jsut bring out my phone, but idk id feel like this device would is a good small alternative for the music player aspect

Got my rabbit today and you can't open one single website without being subscribed to it. You can't teach it, you can't scan documents, pretty much everything that Jessie did in the announcement party is totally foreign to the one in my hand. So you will literally have to be subscribed to about 100 different sights to just use the device like Jessie said it would work.

Honestly not surprised that the founder is apparently a former crypto scammer. This one at least somewhat materialised, but he's clearly used to selling people on ideas rather than real products.
It's over, there won't be a Rabbit R2. They will transition to an app company. The investment wasn't high enough, you need billions of dollars to compete with Google and Apple.
I am so glad I didn't pull the trigger and purchased this before watching the reviews, that thing is almost useless. I'll wait for updated versions, if they fix the battery drainage.

I bought this to mod it with rootkits. Its a cool stylisj device great for tinkering with. Plus you get 1year perplexity pro which is worth £200.
Excellent video. My hopes were it would be faster to respond and have longer battery life than the Humane pin. But with these equally huge shortcomings you end up just gravitating back to your phone( which ends up being double the work for 1 query) suffice to say both of these devices are just not better than a smartphone and keep you more distracted by fiddling with them for longer

That's a good question. The R1
- runs an Android OS
- is designed to listen for voice commands only when you press a button
- doesn't run google services
It should be super power efficient and last a long time when idle like you said.
My guess is that the Rabbit app is configured to prevent it to go to sleep with a wakelock otherwise it was missing some replies or notifications from the backend.
Just an extraordinarily poor implementation for a mobile device, there's really no excuse when using Android as a base OS.
The battery drain was fixed in the last update. It was a bug, apparently.

I believe it's because the device is novel and looks weird and cool, and teenage engineering devices are usually met with love and appreciation. On top of that, we are in a AI-Hype bubble at the moment so it's just riding the wave of hype many other ai products have been riding/pushing along.
I think its because of its promises. They promised the world and are getting called out for it.

I have the option to use ChatGPT in a browser or app on a phone. I have MetaAI to generate images on the same phone, and Google Lens for document transcription. Also, a phone does non-AI activities and saves every file type in existence. Without internet, a phone is still extremely functional. Why would anybody buy this orange brick?

Does anyone really want to carry this thing around in your pocket? It's chunky, the battery life sucks. You know what I would rather have in my pocket instead of this thing? $200 cash. Takes up less space and is far more useful.
In all honesty I think all of these AI devices will not be good buys until probably the 3rd or 4th generation. I would think roughly 2028/2030 there might be a really useful version.

I got mine and cant use it- i was barely be able to log in the midjourney but was not able to produce one image. Its cute but useless. Even the rabbit hole is so disorganized, there is no transcription of voice , wished that can do more but will end up in a drawer along to other things. Not unless there will be some amazing software update

Version 2 (if it allows better battery storage and improved scroll wheel and better speaker) will be an improvement. It doesn’t do enough yet.
Phones would have moved on with AI by then offering the same experience. That is why they rushed this: Apple and Google have AI stuff coming soon.

I think this is being posted today but the content of the review might be out of date. The battery issues seem resolved on my end, the scroll is also quite responsive.
He mentioned that after the update the battery went from four to eight hours. That is still useless.

If Rabbit can be faster, more functional, and with a more realistic human voice, I may replace my smartphone with it. Smartphone is not really smart and have so many negative impacts on human and society. I’m looking forward for a day when it’s good enough to replace the app based phones. I’m ready to say goodbye to little app icons, and have our OS1 moment with a true AI interface.
You’ll be waiting at least a decade.

Second, Are you just spoiled by that there Humane Pin or whatever that's called or something? BEcause this just doens't look anywhere close to bad looking at all.
