    Just found your channel about a week ago and have been binging your videos. These are really eye opening for someone that needs more RPG in their life than can be reasonably had with other people with other their other lives. As a GM, these techniques are quite helpful too for coming up with new ideas and for just helping me get used to new systems. I see now how to get unstuck when I don't feel there has been enough "collapse" of the possibility space. Thank you for sharing your world with us.
    BTW, what are those cool terrain tiles in this video?

    • @GeekGamers01

      @Brian Baker Thank you so much for the comment. I really am so happy that GMs find the content of use... I would actually love to know what other content might be of use to GMs if you have any thoughts on that...
      The tiles here are from Dungeon Universalis

      @@GeekGamers01 Thanks for the reply. It's amazing how many useful RPG resources can be found in board games. So far, the content you have been giving has been very helpful to this GM, but I'll be sure to post specific questions as they come up. Generally speaking, the challenges for me are building up the right details at the right level to provide a fun game. Sometimes I try to do a test run with my own test characters, but have felt like I'm not detached enough from myself to make reasonable assumptions. I think some of your techniques could really help me approach this from other directions that could unstick me from my own predilections.

    • @GeekGamers01

      @@brianbaker7913 Thanks for the further comment. The issue of detail--how much is too much, how much is too little--is a vexing one. In that, I think the soloist probably has it easier since we naturally just fill in what we want mentally (internally). I can see for a DM that it would be a challenge to figure out.

    • @brianbaker7913
      @brianbaker7913 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeekGamers01 Yeah, and which are the details that really matter to the players and story over just fluff the DM cares about. I think these problems never get solved with absolute answers but more with intuitional experience--which is why I believe that getting into solo play can be informative, because it gets me on both sides of the screen. Not that I haven't tried to play through things I've come up with, but I think the solo play angle allows a different approach than just rolling initiative with some pre-gens. I don't expect solo play to be a perfect emulator for running with real players, but I do expect it to be a fun thing for me to do when I can't corral my group with the side effect of opening my eyes to new possibilities.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brianbaker7913 All that makes sense... I'd imagine solo play as a different kind of GM prep, based on what you're saying, and I see how that could help. Kind of like the difference between doing a walk through of a house you're about to buy and living in it for a week or so and asking questions based on that.

    Excellent content as always! Since it is October. I’m curious if you have any spooky RPGs you like to solo? I know you covered a Dracula RPG in your blended rules episode. Which was very fun to watch. Wish I could track a copy down. Always, thanks again!

      Preston Powell Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Great question about spooky RPG‘s. It does seem as if skeletons are in a lot of my sessions but as for a spooky rule set, nothing comes to mind. I should investigate as I love spooky! If you have any suggestions, please make them.

      Geek Gamers, I recently purchased a copy of Alone Against Fear. It is from the same author as Four Against Darkness. I haven’t played it yet, hopefully soon. It looks pretty spooky and will be fun to play during this season of ghosts and goblins. Check it out. I’d be interested in what you made of it. Sorry for the question mark after always in the previous post, fingers stumbled. I meant to hit the exclamation mark. I look forward to more of your videos!

      Preston Powell Ah I wondered about the “?” ! Thanks for the suggestion of Alone Against Fear. I did not realize that was part of the same franchise or what the theme was but I have heard of it. I will check it out. I just purchased Alone against the great old ones and I’m waiting for that to arrive.
