Making potable water from sea water. I was a water system manager and I think viewers would like it explained.

Chief MAKOi Saw the FWG of the flash type already in your first drawing. 😀 Do not trottle the by-pass valve over the FWG in the jacket cooling system too much in order to prevent flow problems in the M.E. cooling jackets was the first thing they teached me when I was an engineer trainee in 78

@@ChiefMAKOi That's funny, I had the same question. My dad said when he was in the Navy, the crew drank distilled water from a still onboard (which required constant maintenance due to corrosion).

In 1977 I was chief mate on a super tanker at anchor for a month 20 miles off Houston Texas for lighting. I made a fishtrap like yours and caught a lot of fish every day. The Indian crew loved it. Every few days we launched a lifeboat and chased the shrimpboats snd swapped bottles of whisky for shrimp. Beautiful
      Retired now. Boring.

I wish I had these videos during my cadetship, would have made things so much easier than reading incomplete manuals and tracing every single pipe in the engine room.
Purifiers would be a great video, about why they are used and troubleshooting common problems etc. I think if you talked about general troubleshooting for most systems, those would be useful.

Just gunna pop in here. Been watching for over a year now. This is the only genre of "Channel" I am subscribed too. I have nothing to do with the subject matter, and have only been on an inflatable kayak and some boats a handful of times. What keeps me watching is the extremely high level of production value and editing of these videos. Love the writing and I greatly Enjoy Watching Your Videos!!! THANKS!! Be safe!

Wow! Thanks Kory! A few people actually advised me to lower my production value so I could edit faster and put out more content. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I guess I'm just used to a certain standard that only points to improvement and not the other way around. Again, thanks! I really appreciate it.

Another brilliant tutorial, well done! The value of a fresh water system can't be stressed enough it is so important. Think back to the days of the Windjammers when this type of technology didn't exist, it must have been awful, little drinking water which was often times fouled. No showers or bathing and clean clothes were unheard of, makes you cringe...yet they still carried on, how I do not know. Thanks Chief, hoping you and yours are doing well.

Yet again, great work in explaining the FWC! I'll add this to my thermodynamics playlist for my physics classes. BTW, I do an on-capmus fieldtrip over to the cogeneration plant on my campus. It's a natural gas-fired truck engine, besides generating electricity the plant recovers the waste heat for heating domestic hot water for the locker rooms and for heating the pool. The ship's cooling system and cogen plant are very similar to each other in their design and operation. CP

I know they make versions of them with closed cooling systems for saltwater use, kinda like a car radiator I guess. Just on a much smaller scale than ships!
