    You're 100% right!! (Supposed) fitness experts always try to convince you that, in order to get slim and healthy, you need to take this or that supplement, but very few of them actually suggest to get your nutrients from food, REAL food. There has been much ado about the importance of protein in the diet lately, and people are becoming obsessed about it, but, in fact, we consume more protein than we need, and we are actually more overweight than we used to be a few years ago...

    I feel so fortunate for discovering your channel, guys. Since the end of May I started working out, eating healthier, and I have since lost 18 pounds, I feel so much better now. I know that there is a lot of money to be made by the guys in the industry of "quick fixes" but I know that the only results that matter are achieved through hard work and that there are no $9,99 "shortcuts" in life. I'm not interested in filling these people's pockets, I got all advice I need in here. Thanks a lot guys.

    Thank you. You where very sound about your knowledge in nutrition. I've talked to doctors, nutritionists, and trainers about this before. So it's very nice that you are putting this out their for people to find out for themselves. It was a nice reminder without the embarrassment of having some one say "you're not eating right" to my face. I've started doing your low impact workouts to lose weight and not kill my joints. I feel fantastic already. So thank you so very much for all your videos.

    I really like your vídeos guys :) this is so true! I'm a nutricionist and all the books i have say the only way you can take supplement is if you suffer from a disease. For example, kidney desease; people who suffer this should take iron because they do not assimilate enough iron from food, but beside deseases, if you are healthy you really don't need suplements!

    Fitness blender is great and your video are very informative. Speaking for myself, I've found that no matter how much organic fruits and veggies I eat they don't provide the amount of magnesium or vitamin C or B's that I need. You asked on this video who is telling "you" that I need these supplements. I have a short list of people that influenced my decision. As a researcher, I checked and double checked these sources, read many peer reviewed journals, studied the mechanisms of action and came to the conclusion that not even "organic" produce can provide the adequate level of vitamins/minerals that supplements can provide. Dr. Andrew Saul who only sells his books and not supplements nor does he endorses any supplement brand at all is a major influence. His former colleague, Dr. Abram Hoffer who has passed away is another source. Last and not least, two time Nobel prize winner Linus Pauling (for bio-chemistry) are the three that changed my opinion on supplements. Otherwise this video is very accurate. However, the produce isn't what it used to be and "organic" is expensive and a bit of a marketing device for $$$. Any feedback you'd like to offer would be appreciated.

    I see a lot of people taking whey protein and all these powdered shakes. Most are so disgusting and lumpy! I was recommended to take whey but honestly my heart just kept saying no, because you can't beat real good food & hard work exercise. I agree with you both. and a couple of months ago I was thinking and searching for a whey protein, but I've finally made up my mind & I don't need it. I also know someone who takes whey protein on rest days when ther not doing any activity, I would rather make a quick breakfast.

    I tell this to people all the time!! I actually told my SIL this when she took me down the vitamin aisle. She said she takes a whey protein shake in the morning because she doesn't like to eat breakfast, and I have been there. I said, you can take a banana with you, and a boiled egg. I dont like all the artificial sugars in the Whey shakes. I do use one but it is pure whey and I add a banana, peanut butter, and other things to it (even spinach..haha). REAL FOOD!!

    If you eat a healthy varied diet that includes fish (tuna, sardines are high in calcium..esp the bone part), vegetables (broccoli, okra, dark leafy greens like kale), nuts (eg almond), seeds (eg sunflower) - you can definitely increase your calcium intake as these foods are high in calcium :)

    I have heard we don't have enough nutrients in our ground anymore for the grown food to have enough to give you and you should supplement due to that. What are your thoughts on lack of nutrients in our soil to grow nutrient foods?

    • @Jesse-kw7ht
      @Jesse-kw7ht 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi! I am a grad student studying soil science and crop agronomy. Your question is on the right track, but also slightly more complex. Plants need both macro and micro nutrients to flourish and grow, but industrial agriculture (and a lack of scientific understanding in this area) has focused on solely marco nutrients fertilizers for plant grow ( i.e. mostly nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium). This has caused two issues 1)soils have become depleted of micro nutrients depending on the climate of an area, for example as a general rule California's Central Valley lacks magnesium in their soil (surprise most americans suffer from magnesium deficiency - www.lifeextension.com/magazine/2005/9/awsi/Page-01) 2)modern breeds of crops have been cultivated and adjusted to living in these low micro-nutrient environments, meaning if they were put in a high micro-nutrient environment, they may not incorporate more micro-nutrients into their plant tissues. This translate to a lack of micro nutrients for our bodies, even when we get the amount of veggies we are suppose to eat in a day (which most people don't).
      For more information check out this article, www.scientificamerican.com/article/soil-depletion-and-nutrition-loss/
      My suggestion is: 1) Know your farmer and ask them what they do to replace micronutrients in their soils? 2) As a very general rule, organic farmers have a tendency to focus on the micro nutrients content of their veggies more than conventional farmers, because a nutrient stressed plants will increase the risk of pest and fungi infections on a plant and organic farmers don't have access to the tools of chemical fungicides and pesticides like conventional farmers. So buy organic if you can. 3) Eating local and super fresh increases the amount of nutrients in a plant body. (I am a big advocate of CSA boxes to increase veggie consumption and to get fresh nutrient rich veggies.)
      Hope this helped! This is an important topic that we don't talk enough about!

    • @jamesgough8020
      @jamesgough8020 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like your point. But also remember that most individuals eat more food now too than they did 50 years ago as well. I think I see many restaurants recommending food based on 2000 Calorie diets. I don't think I've eaten less than 2000 Calories a day for many, many years now. If you eat 17 low-Calorie snack bars is it really low-Calorie anymore? Or if you eat 200 g of potato versus only 100 g, then it's possible that, even though per 100 g of potato the nutrition content is less nowadays and under the presumption that we generally eat more in 2017 than we did in 1970, it might mean that we end up getting the same amount of 'soil' nutrients just the same.
