Excellent advice. See also Andrew Williams video on doodle tongue technique. Start slow and persist.

I played around 15 greats without really ever going above the F you mention. at least I had no control over it. I’ve been practicing high notes every time I play my trombone for the last year, and now I can easily play up to the D, sometimes even the F one octave above, and on a food day I can edge out the Bb one octave above the one he played in the end. It all just comes from deliberate practice.

Man I can barely play the B flat above the F. I just can’t seem to get the higher partials. What am I doing wrong?

When you play high notes, or any notes in general, your lip builds muscle to send the air faster. Being able to send the air faster and better makes your tone better, while making it easier to play high notes. Playing high notes softer makes it easier for those muscles to build up, and playing normally will also build them, at a slightly slower pace. Don't get demotivated, progress is not exponential, there will be some times where you will feel stuck. Make sure you have an open embouchure, open teeth, and there's no tension in any places of your body. Use your core to send the air faster, while staying relaxed with the corners of your mouth tight. Good luck!
