Since he died without knowing his art was appreciated, i can't help but wonder how he would feel about not just being world renowned & greatly loved, but also having his paintings be the most stolen. 😆
If you feel that way you might want to watch exit through the gift shop as well as the documentary about a painting by Jackson Pollock that a truck driver bought and the experts can't decide whether it's an original Jackson Pollock or not and the absurdity of it is revealing
Yes you're the only one. Someone that can afford these paintings can afford to give money to many charity causes which they do. It's not one or the other. You think small.
@@NutsHuggerTo be fair, the brits do some weird atypical pronunciations sometimes. Especially to words from the romantic languages (ie: guillotine is gill-o-tine, pico de gallo is pico de gallow etc), but I’m in agreement with you otherwise as Americans tend to be fairly entrenched and egocentric or generally ignorant to the norms of the wider world in so many ways. It would appear that Van Gough is Dutch in origin and has a Dutch pronunciation closer to Gock from what I can tell, but it seems to be more commonly said as “go” which is potentially because Van Gough spent a fair bit of time in France and that would track as a French pronunciation.
DNA in a cap or movable item is the worst type of circumstantial evidence. Now if they found it on the glass or on the rope that might be another matter. A smart lawyer would find it mighty suspicious that a head covering was left for each of the two assailants. Also everybody talks about money, all the time. Your best supporting evidence is that he fled shortly afterwards.
It's odd, in my opinion, that the art historian appeared surprised that Van Gogh represents a culturally important part of Holland's heritage; Dutch painters have been world renowned for hundreds of years....pretty common knowledge. (Think Van Meer, the Dutch Masters, Rembrandt, Heironymus Bosch (sp?) to name just a few....out of many quite celebrated and exquisite enduring works. Maybe he was trying to educate the audience. I dunno. Just seemed strange.
The “Dutch” masters, Bosh are from my knowledge artists from your southern neighbours and not actually Dutch, i don’t even think the Dutch identity was something that existed at that time
Sometimes I think there has to be an insider in all of theses thefts. Think about it, piss poor security who aren't allowed to respond, and are told to pass the message onto the police; which by then the thieves have disappeared with the art. If they really wanted to protect these works, they would have seriously armed police officers / army units inside at all times. So the question arises, "Do they really value these very old works of art?"
I find it extremely rude that the pompous artworld call him "van gock" after having an existing family member qietly correct him that it is pronounced "van goh"
I’ve made reproductions. A few so faithful, Ive worked on the verso to age it. But it depends where the artist is, who he/she is, what socioeconomic status they belong to and the culture in which it’s made. Around here, art isn’t a “Profession” but a hobby for wealthy people. I’ve made over 1,458 oil paintings since I started counting. Less than 2% were bought by my compatriots the rest were sold all over the world. And I don’t advertise. It’s all word of mouth 👄
I just watched several Dutch language pronunciation videos on how they would say his name. The letter G is supposed to be said like an H- always. And the last part of the name is definitely NOT said like the man in the show lol. The ending should be less harsh. A little bit like an Arabic sound but soft. Sorry😂 don’t know how to describe it. Lots of TH-cam videos for it. The tutorials recommended to just say “Go” so most people know for sure who your talking about. This show presenter is butchering his last name I’m embarrassed for him😂
the ONLY reason they get stolen is the unrealistic ridiculous HIGH PRICE per painting £21.5 million POUNDS ‼️ It is amazing art but balancing it out to how many people you can feed for a lifetime, I think the value DEFINITELY IS far over the top.
Not van go but van gock? or is it van goth? How did the man pronounce his own name? Brits are not the most brilliant painting in the museum. Its pronounced van-go; the same way his own relative says it.
These paintings are stunning! I'm surprised they're not protected from the public. Anyone can walk up and touch them.

Wonderful video, watching it taught me how imppresive his paintings are. Thank you for showing us about his life ❤🎉
Kudos to the Italian investigator! Her courage and dogged persistence in fighting crime paid off in this unique recovery.
Excellent documentary. 🇧🇷👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Am I really the only one who thinks spending MILLIONS on art seems like a waste of good $ that could help so many others?
At least it’s going back into the economy
Money laundering

His name is pronounced VanGOCK???? 😮 Who knew???
I thought the same thing.
Yeah this fool says it on other documentaries too...
Ridiculous
Some say van goff
But the correct way is van go
@@ArtVandelayOfficial typical murican ignorance...oh we don't pronounce -gh so a completely different language must not do that either....

There is no question I am a peasant! Those paintings look like $19.95 on sale at Wal Mart. Framed.

Amanzing. Sem dúvida o crime organizado também está inserido no mundo das artes. Seja qual for.
He's bald. How could his hair get in the hat?

It's pronounced "go"
Actually you are wrong on that. That is just how most people pronounce it. Vincent himself would have pronounced it like Van Gock.

Way to much music and Italian speaking in the last half really ruined a good story
I can paint a better picture than this, and I will sell it to you for only $500.

These are refurbished, lol.

He’s actually a really funny dude, so it’s a real shame he did this...from what I know he changed his ways tho😊thankgod
Yeah you mean the bulgar? You’re right, he actually does interviews with the Dutch detective now! They did one with Vogue I believe.
