I just spam a lot of rams and catapults and i find that using magic and illusion deals a huge amount of damage (50k). Brings back memories. Ima download this again.
You can get well over 10,000, there's a special animation when a strong occurrence of a tactic happens. I think the most I've gotten was 14,500 damage. Having officers in the same unit with the same tactic also helps to achieve this as well.
