I actually think you're super early on these color pencils because I haven't seen any artist I sub on youtube use them (unless I missed it). you're a trendsetter, tbh
I was excited to hear that they’re a soft creamy pencil, that doesn’t break when sharpening. I love the softness of Prismacolors, but dislike the wax bloom and constant breaking. It’s disheartening to see how much Posca is trying to charge for them, though. Hopefully they go down on the price one day, because I would pick them up in a heartbeat.
The breaking can be fixed by sticking the pencil in the microwave for like 10 seconds. It melts the colored part into one piece again. Just be careful putting wooden pencils in the microwave, and they can get really hot. But it does help!
Yeah, prismacolor pencils are generally shot after dropping them once. It's because they don't center the core in the barrel enough. When that happens and you drop em, you can sharpen till they're gone and the lead will fall out every f-ing time.
I used to dislike this look, but over time I've realised how much character and interest it brings to a piece. I think the way you view art changes as you age for most people. I love so many different kinds of art now. To me, this piece is amazing and the textured areas really make it fascinating.
People may freak when I say: I hate the tins colored pencils come in. I recycle them in my recycle bin or I use them to hold business cards. After I paint them of course. (but agreed, 100 for pencils and no proper holder? cheap/scandalous af
I think they're so expensive because Posca is a Japanese brand, and importing them makes them so pricey. If you buy them in Japan, like Copics, they're probably a lot cheaper.
@@cornstarch9202 Woah what?! I assume Daisy is a store in Japan because I haven't heard of it before. Here in what we know as Canada, one marker is like $4-6 each,,, it's very disheartening lolol.
I don't really "art" but I really appreciate honest reviews. You mentioned price, where you looked to purchase them, and did a great comparison against other well known brands. Also Incorporating different art techniques instead of just scribbling on paper was cool. Having a nice complete drawing at the end shows what the product can do and your skills as an artist 👍
I love the vibrancy of these! They do seem to blend really smooth too. I do wonder if by "oil medium" for blending they meant products you'd use for blending oil paint, like mineral spirits or turpentine, rather than an oil-based product.
Gamsol works amazing for smoothing prismacolors, which is an odorless oil paint product for thinning the paint. I'm sure it will work for all the other brands too.
I just discovered them like three days ago when I went to my local art store, I literaly had the same reaction: "what? Posca makes coloured pencils now?" x)
Achilles Kacey golden mentioned them in her video she released today so 👀 Edit: wait I'm sorry if this is weird but speaking of Kasey Golden do you happen to watch her videos? Idk I just think I recognize your name/picture from somewhere lol
I looked, and they are at about 70$ in the danish online stores. Btw I love the box, it is so pretty. And the layering is like a Japanese bento box, which makes sense with posca. But it is still to expensive for me
Like your fox picture. Your not the only one who didn’t know about these pencils, I didn’t know about them either, but my favorite pencils are prisma colored pencils.
I love how the Illustration turned out! The colors are really vibrant and beautiful, but as you say, honestly why are they even more expensive as the Polychromos??? I mean Carand´Ache okay, they seem to have even a better lightfastness than the Polychromos, but wow almost 100 dollars for 36 pencils? I´m shocked!
I'm really trying to get some people to come and visit your channel again, and I'm really hoping everything is getting better with what you explained in that one video. You deserve so much recognition, your videos are always entertaining and inspiring, and your art is AMAZING. 💕💕💕💕
Thanks for the great review. I had no idea these even existed. Your review was pretty thorough, and now I know I shouldn’t buy them. Though I do like softer pencils, these aren’t better than Prismacolors or even Derwent’s Coloursoft. I am in love with the coloursofts lay down, but I go through them pretty fast because they need constant sharpening and are also prone to breakage. I still use them but I’m very careful with them. Recently I finally got a small set of the Luminance, for me they are the best. The colors are super vibrant, the lay down is smooth and buttery, and best of all no breakage they keep a point fairly well for a soft wax pencil. That makes it worth the money to me. I won’t be getting anymore Coloursofts now that I have these. They last much longer.
Whoa don't know where you purchased yours, but I got the entire set for around 40. The case is really neat. The tins are really convenient as they take little room when stacked together. If need only a few you can put them in one tray and no need to keep all 3 layers out. Their white pencil is better than ANY other white pencil (I have all of the artists lines in white). You can try these out by buying just a few as they come open stock at Blick. If you go to uni posca community online you can see some famous artists works which were done exclusively with these pencils. This is the first set of 36 that I felt really was enough. They just blend fabulously. (Mine were on sale at Blicks. I tried 7 openstock pencils first, loved them and got the whole set. May want to wait until they go back on sale if the price has gone up so much. These are close to or identical to the Mitsubhisi Pericia which go for close to 100 or more for a set of 36
Great video, with added Kat-ermission. I liked the way you swatched and broke down the pencils (i like the way you pronounce them btw) showing them against others in it's class and techniques used to show hw well they perform when used in different way, very informative. The Artwork was great to see, showing that it's not all about million pound brush pens, and a nice change in style. (Sally; 'where did mum put that new toy she bought for me')
I bought Prisma color pencils when I was a teen... a hundred years ago, and they were creamy and did not break. They were also made in the US and they were a bit more pricey than other good pencils. They moved the manufacturing to Mexico and made them a bit cheaper and they break a lot and were never the same. It may be worth more $$ to not have to sharpen away half your pencil.
Prismacolor breakage can be fixed by popping the pencil in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Just be careful putting wooden pencils in the microwave, they can get really hot and it can obviously be a fire hazard if they get too hot. But it melts the broken pieces inside the pencil back to one single piece.
I'm really curious when uni made this, because I can not find this product on the uni website and can not seem to find any information looking up "posca coloredpencils" in japanese. I wonder if they only sell in other countries even though it's a japanese brand.

I found this video by searching "Uni-Posca Colored Pencils" and it was the top video result. I'm not going to lie, I immediately muted it and skipped to the middle because I was already jamming and I just wanted to see a demo of how the pencils looked on paper. But then you started... testing the medium and comparing it to other brands and I was completely captivated by your thoroughness. And then you drew something amazing with them! So I stopped my music, and restarted the video to watch all the way through with sound and I loved it! Especially the cat intermission. You're a great commentator and a great artist and I'm excited to see more videos from you!
Have you tried using the sandpaper trick to sharpen your pencils? My teachers in high school 25 years ago, saves a huge amount of pencil waste and it's much easier to get, and keep, a sharp point.
It's not, if I'm paying 100 for coloured pencils I expect a tin case since they're more expensive and better over all. Since when do tin cases rust, they have some sort of coating to stop that. Stop lying, just say you like plastic and that's it

Great video Katt. You're the first person I've seen use these. I've heard about them but never seen them in action. They are nice but if I had my choice I would go with Polychromos or Luminance. I've tried Polychromos and love them. Next one I would like to get is Luminance. I usually go with prismacolor and luckily I ended up buying sets off a few friends and it was before Prismacolor started getting pretty bad at breaking and not being centered in the middle. I still have trouble sometimes but not as much as I have with the newer prismacolor.
Thanks so much for testing the Tosca pencils I just started my polychromo collection 12 pencils for $ 47 that is Australian dollars everything is so expensive here I love your art and chanel thanks again
The drawing is adorable but I am not sure that's the right paper for the pencils. I could see how it would really nice for pastels, but usually, from what I saw and what I know, smoother paper with just a fine tooth works best because it grabs the color, but also gives you a bit of space for you to layer the colors
You can use baby oil to blend most coloured pencils, I use it now and then on my polychromos when I’m blending colours which are too different to just use the pencils since it kind of waters it down and makes it easier to mix them more like paint
Ah. I wish that she used a blending medium (like gamsol or linseed oil because these are oil based). Something about lil white dots showing through creeps me out. Haha
Hey I'm new at your Channel and I love it! I also love cats... so yes of course I had to subscribe!! Your art is amazing! So keep up the awesome work! 🐱🐈
Hey! I’ve actually seen these pop up in my artstore like two months ago, they were also sold individually ^^ I bought a couple to try then out and I really like them! They’re great to use with watercolors, I do most of my line work with them and I also use them for shading /details. My only problem is the soft nib which (while it’s great to use) causes the pencil to go down really quickly.
They sound like Karisma pencils, soft, squishy, blend great and cost a fortune. But hey, karisma doesn't exists anymore so its nice to finally see an alternative for those few people who miss it. Personally I'll stick with Castle Art pencils, much more affordable.
Hi! Interesting video I've never heard of those pencils before. I recently found these other pencils on Amazon that blow me away as far as quality. They were only $22 for a set of 72. The name of them is rather peculiar, they are called CoolBank and I can't believe how good they are. I hope you can try these out and do a review they are amazing. I have to tell you though, I almost sent them back because the packaging that they came in had such a horrible chemical smell. It was the plastic trays in the tin box. I found this out after separating them and putting the consoles in a canvas roll up holder. Anyways, I really enjoyed this video!
the artwork looks amazing!! i love it! the STABILO woodys are a mix betw colored pencils and crayons. they are water solvable, so you can create aquarell washes with em and you can draw on almost every surface with em. so fun to draw on glass, mirrors, bathtubs.. they're designed for kids but are also really fun to use for adults. i bet you will get amazing results with em. would be cool to know what you think about em :D

You can wipe the bloom with a cloth or paper towel, and you'll get a nice shiny surface
Use “smarty” colors, they’re really cheap but they’re also really soft

Thanks so much for testing the Tosca pencils I just started my polychromo collection 12 pencils for $ 47 that is Australian dollars everything is so expensive here I love your art and chanel thanks again
The drawing is adorable but I am not sure that's the right paper for the pencils. I could see how it would really nice for pastels, but usually, from what I saw and what I know, smoother paper with just a fine tooth works best because it grabs the color, but also gives you a bit of space for you to layer the colors
I’ve been waiting for a review on these, finally🙏
Such a lovely drawing!
WOULD ALSO LOVE TO HAVE THESE!!
🐱🐈
One of my favourite artists i love your work 💛
I don't like them for just colouring, but they are the only ones perfect to add details on top of the Neocolor I wax pastels. I love them for that.
I love seeing a bit of Sally, she's so cute
It’s actually our other cat Ludvig 😸 but they do look quite similar
@@Kattvalk oh I can't tell the difference, they look so similar! But both as cute as each other.
Beautiful artwork and a really adorable 🐱!
Wow that’s crazy! I love my prismacolor pencils
Hey!
I’ve actually seen these pop up in my artstore like two months ago, they were also sold individually ^^
I bought a couple to try then out and I really like them!
The packaging is so pretty
Beautiful drawing ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the review
That’s a crazy high price for what me pencils 🤑
I think having the color ID # on the top is great. No more rubbed off color names! lol
the artwork looks amazing!! i love it!
the STABILO woodys are a mix betw colored pencils and crayons. they are water solvable, so you can create aquarell washes with em and you can draw on almost every surface with em. so fun to draw on glass, mirrors, bathtubs.. they're designed for kids but are also really fun to use for adults. i bet you will get amazing results with em. would be cool to know what you think about em :D
Omgosh! I need these pencils in my life! 😍😍😍
Love the drawing!
I saw a red fox at my grandpa’s house yesterday what a coincidence lol
