Hello and welcome to Portugal. Just a little correction. The map of Portugal Districts is wrong in the separation between Lisboa and Setúbal Districts! The Tejo river separates them. It's southern bank is Península de Setúbal, with the city of Setúbal in the northern bank of the river Sado (Setúbal District), the northern bank of the river Tejo is Lisboa! Check Google Earth ;) you will understand!
England second hand cars are cheaper, but what about insurance? How much would it cost you fully comp policy? In Portugal dont forget that insurance lets you drive in most of european countries while UK you have to pay extra, also every car policy in Portugal comes with free recovery. What about UK? You have to get AA or any other recovery service, right? How much would that be on the top?Check these channels, OK Portugal, The Indie projects, stay classy vlog, Expats Portugal,
I just loved your video. I was watching the expressions on your faces and it was like reading your minds. We are much older and did a similar thing. My wife is Portuguese born and raised and immigrated to Canada in the 80's. I am old-stock Canadian from Nova Scotia having relocated to Ontario in the 80's. We met in Ontario after our horrible divorces practically wiped us out. We desperately wanted out of the rat-race for a long time, so we sold our house and our possessions arriving in Portugal with 4 suitcases, a dog and a cat. We have been at it for going on three years now and just love it here. I am still having trouble with learning to speaking the language, despite understanding most of it. We are also in Centro region. We live close to the Mira area. Believe me the hard work will pay off. Most of the food we consume, we produce, and that cant be beat eh? When the "pandemic" arrived, we hardly even noticed. Its nice to be self-sufficient.
I like how you come here and perfectly blend with portuguese, i bet so many outsiders come here and live like us except work because no one wants to work here for our crappy wages and long hours.
Hi guys! I just subscribed. I love watching people restarting their lives in a foreign country and slowly build from basically scratch a new home. Because I was born in Portugal, it makes all the more interesting. Good luck!
Thank you! I really appreciate your comment. We love everything about it and everyone is so nice to us. Also the weather is phenomenal. We fell in love with Portugal a while ago snd when we saw this place it was meant to be! We are very excited!!
great tips. for someone with no connection to Portugal, can you make videos on how to search for properties, lawyers, RE agents, buying tips, and so forth? Also maybe a little history on each area/province and what they may offer different types of buyers
Guys I am so happy you went there, Portugal is so much better than here in England, there the quality life is fantastic. Cool you got your braces big hug. Tamara
Wellcome neighbours, I live in an old house in the Lousã municipality. My advise: look for advise from others who renovated old houses arround here. There are a lot of them. The climate, and the way the house can cope with it, are the bad surprises foreigners usually face in thiis area. The humidity will impregnate the walls 7 to 8 months a year. You need to invest in good insulation and a good heating system. The more you spare in this, the more you'll spend in the future and the more you'll suffer from unconfortable winters. You may need deshumidifiers for the mold. The good news is: wood is cheap, from the excess of eucalyptus and acacias. This wood is not the best, but the heat from the burning is ok. You will need some 12 cubic meters a year, depending on the volume of the house . ~400€ a year, if you want confort. Keep in mind that the electrical companys cap the power in old houses (16 A. generally) unless they look like new... I'm portuguese. We don't like to sound over optimistc, unless when trying to sell something. Good luck.
Keep the brambles down in order to have much less danger from fire because the brambles not only cover the surface but also grow into the trees. ( seen it in Australia)
Hi folks! It is great to have found your channel. Hubby and I are coming to Portugal in October to have a look around. It would be really helpful to know about your Lawyer etc. Wishing you both every happiness and success in your venture. xxxx
You two have been amazing in the making of this video. You have brought fun, hope and quality food for thought. God bless you both in your wonderful adventure.
I have to say you have a massive advantage over most buyers and that's a well defined knowledgeable list of filter criteria that you were prepared to stick to and not be swayed. Also a lot or realism in the amount of work something like this is going to take to 'make good'.
hey Nick! Thank you for your message. It took quite a while to get there, after hundreds of internet viewings on websites and visiting many people's houses already finish. It was quite a good process but it did take work. Some of these criteria have evolved since the video was published and a bit of an update it's due soon :)
I know! An embarrassing oversight! I had added an update on my pinned comment. Apologies! I have learnt this was actually a cardinal sin here! Mixing footage with Lisbon/Porto. I better learn quick which football team to cheer!
As a Portuguese native take this as friendly warning, builders can be weasels! Especially if you're foreigners. So be extra careful with that. Great choice of location btw, I've visited Coimbra only once and cant wait to get back and spend a couple of weeks exploring. Its definitely one of the top districts in Portugal. Also, check out Lousã! Quite near to your location as the foresty parts are to die for.
Thanks for the advice :) We have checked out Lousã but not too much due to lockdown. Hopefully things start to open up and we can discover more this area. 🙏🏻
Another portuguese here, adding to what my fellow countryman said. Never pay 100% of the money upfront for any construction/renovation services :) (as a rule of thumb, not just in Portugal)
Just found and subscribed to your channel. My partner and I live in England and are looking to purchase an acre or 2 in Central Portugal. The plan is to go over in June and view some land and then make the move to Portugal in the new year. We have some friends who have already purchased land in Central Portugal. I am very excited to follow your progress, it is very inspiring. I wish you all the best on your adventure.
Thank very much! How wonderful! I’m sure you are very excited. Best idea to be honest. We are very happy here. It’s such a relief to know the borders have opened. Let us know if you need any info. Where are you planning to visit/purchase land?
Without knowing how big the property is or having a guided tour, my guess would have been €40,000 so I think you got a good deal. Time will tell. You are courageous in undergoing the huge sacrifice implicit in living in a portacabin while you start renovating. I would have preferred buying a house in good condition, so much easier, though so often characterless. Every week I am discovering another TH-cam channel of foreigners moving to live in Portugal. There's a ton if you out there, struggling to keep up!
My friend, you should watch our first video, we give you a guided tour! And somewhat mention the dimensions of the property. We are happy however, you think we found a good deal. Welcome to one of the many nice areas of TH-cam! Many foreigners here in PT indeed. It’s a marvellous country with much to offer. If you haven’t been, please check it out when you can. If you are a native: tem um país maravilhoso.
Hi, I just came across your channel. I’m American but married a Portuguese guy 46 years ago. We built a home near Braga and have been spending time here every year. I look forward to seeing your renovation. You could get a few egg laying chickens. They pay for themselves!
Amazing! We would love to visit that area of Portugal which, we haven't seen yet! We would looove some chickens but we need to first build them a home :) Thank you so much! it's going to be a lovely home one day :)
Portugal is beautiful , my parents were born there and came to Canada for a better life , Portugal is a good time to buy land especially right now , enjoy and take care of the land and the land will take care of you
Olá Andrea and Omar 👋🏻 I’ve just come upon your video and you now have another new subscriber. I cannot believe you’ve only done one other one before this. Your content was terrific and I’m looking forward to more! Cheers ~
10 years ago you would buy that property for half the price. Portugal is now overpricing everything in real estate. Also building costs are much higher than before. Speculation is the word. Anyway I'm glad you choose my country to live!
Thanks Eduardo! This property was listed at €50,000 10 years ago, and wasn’t sold, ours neighbours told us. This area has seen prices go down but that appears to be changing. There is great demand for countryside living, many people arriving to the villages.
@@TheIndigoEscape I can only speak from my experience, I live in the north of Portugal and 10 years ago you could buy a small property in Montalegre real cheap. In the past few years prices skyrocket in the zone. In the future this type of rural properties will tend to increase the price even more, so you made a good investment!
Eduardo Carvalho I see what you mean. Also with Covid normalising working from home, many people would leave the cities and buy countryside properties.
That's true the price is increasing a lot but is not speculation. We are having a huge demand and not a lot of offers in farms and even in houses/apartments, is one incredible grow in last 5 years, a lot of Brazilians and foreign start to look to Portugal to a great alternative to retire and not only to retire... Once again Portugal is the best country for digital nomads and i bet you the prices going to grow even this year with pandemic, because after the pandemic lot new workers going to start to work 100% home.
@@arturjcrebelo3275 100% agree with you. A curious thing we noticed is that agencies we are familiar with, won't just put any price, they want to sell so they want to be as realistic as possible. So speculation is not really happening, it's demand. Many are bought by foreigners but also Portuguese. I think the pandemic has definitely changed the mindset of people and many will move to the countryside which is wonderful. I think in next year, Portugal may boom. So much talk about people moving here and many are young people. Your English is perfect Artur by the way!
This is one of the best video that I have seen. Thank you for telling us the prices. Yes could please put the details on the description so we can get in touch as well? Thank you so much for the video
Hi Aurora, Thank you very much! Are you looking to move to Coimbra? Our lawyer only works in this area. Send us an email to contact@theindigoescape.com for more information
I am in the early stages of planning a similar leap into Portugal from England and I too have focused in on Coimbra as the likely candidate' although the prices further inland are very attractive.
Inland is great too but it depends on access and what your priorities are. We really like going on day trips/weekend breaks and we found that Coimbra is nearer all the places we are very interested in visiting (Lisbon/Porto 2.5hrs, Aveiro 1.5hrs) We also find more inland to be very hot and dry. Coimbra is greener (it does rain a bit more) but it is still much sunnier than England. Also, there is so much water here compared to inland and the Algarve. May be worth visiting both places before buying! You do get some amazing properties inland (Castelo Branco, etc) that would probably cost you way more in Coimbra.
@@TheIndigoEscape Good advice there :nods:. I am planning, once the shadow of COVID fades, to get over there and do something of a tour of the regions to see what 'calls'. I love forested river valleys, so that might narrow things down rather :grins:
@@dallassukerkin6878I am a bit suspicious as I was born and raised there.😁 The best childhood I could probably had. The river, the weather and the people are incredible. Only 30min from Coimbra, 2hours from Porto and 3 hours from Lisbon by car. By Train it's even less.
I can fully agree with your comment. I just Subscribed, as well. This channel has inspired me too. As I have just completed a house purchase in Sicily, and once I start the renovation process perhaps I'll start a TH-cam channel as you have done : )
@@josephweisman7981 amazing! Congratulations!! Sicily sounds amazing! And YES, do it!! Make a TH-cam channel!! It’s so inspiring seeing renovations! We can all learn from each other and don’t forget to tag us and make an IG account to update with photos 🙏🏻🙏🏻💪🏼💪🏼❤️
Hi, I live near Coimbra, close to Lousã. I’m am really into sustainable living, we have solar water heating, solar PV and an air source heat pump. I have some ideas on how to make many of the sustainable improvements yourselves. Let me know if you’re interested, it’s not my work, I just like doing it!
You were "complaining" about the price of the car but you ended up buying a used imported: the car was originally sold in 1998 in another country and then imported here in 2002. You'd probably get a domestic one from the same year or even newer (sold and registered new in Portugal) for the same price, with less kms and in much better condition. : )
Wow! You find quite a lot of info there haha. Yes, we found out later that it was imported and as we arrived in Faro, we didn’t have a lot of options. You are quite right though, we could have found something slightly cheaper over here in central Portugal. Seems like in Porto cars are even cheaper.
@@TheIndigoEscape - Ah, I see! You know, most of those cars come from countries with snow in the Winter and become rust buckets in no time but if it's still in good condition, considering it's 23 years old, then it wasn't a bad deal. : )
Well done guys! We are planning to do the same in Braga. We have the property, very similar to yours, and hopefully we will start the renovation next year, all pending on Covid travelling restrictions - we are Portuguese living and working in London. We have similar ideas for the house so would be quite interested to see what will be your strategies for insulation in an eco sustainable perspective, etc. Good luck!
Hey Ana! That's awesome! We haven't been there, would love to know the area more and visit :D Hopefully, things quiet down by that time, it should be 🙏 To be honest, it hasn't been easy with lockdown to get tools/materials so might as well wait a bit and actually to things in an easier manner. We haven't discussed insulation yet but it's a hot topic when renovating, so important as it gets so cold in the winter. We will definitely touch on that when we get there! Do keep us updated with your project! x
Hey guys! Just found your channel! Really nice stuff good job. My partner is from Portugal and I live with her in Lagos. We have a restaurant and couple of Guesthouses! Good luck with your journey in PT! :)
Hi, i have been watching all these off grid channels and Homesteaders.I also suddenly discovered a few Portugese videos.. Then i saw yours too. I love watching, cannot wait when you start renovating.. Looks like a beautiful property to re do.All the best to you both. Cape Town , South Africa
I came across your very interesting video today, and really loved the content. Portugal is a wonderful country, especially the Algarve. My family are originally from Portugal ( mostly Lisbon and Algarve), but I am a South African, living in Chile, South America 😅… Yep! True story! You have a new subscriber, and I wish you both all the very best on your new, and amazing journey! God bless!
Wow that's super interesting! There is a deep connection between SA and PT. When Omar came here the first time, he was like" "But it's so similar to South Africa!" haha. Amazing! Thanks Yola!
Good luck guys. My Portuguese girlfriend and I have just bought a renovation project in a castle in Vila Vicosa but we have less (although not a lot less) work to do . Just curious to know what your overall budget is. Looks like you have your work cut out !!!
Indeed! To be honest, we haven’t done a lot of pricing but we think it may end up to be €100,000 on top of what was paid for the property. This, hopefully, would be done over a long period of time. Just getting the basics at the moment. Let me know about your project, sounds interesting!
So happy by chance I stumbled up on your video. We are trying to decide whether to make the same move or not. It's given us great insight on what to expect. Many thanks
Thanks Anna! Hope you do! I think what made us do it was because the world is moving towards the digital world and due to Covid, it was accelerated. If you can work remotely/seasonally, I thinking it’s best to be in the countryside and, Portugal is really affordable. Best of luck!
@@TheIndigoEscape your absolutely correct. Also we want to bring up our little one in a more natural environment. Would be great if you could make more videos on cost of living and how daily life works out in Portugal particularly for none speaking Portuguese. Thanks a million!
I am coming to Coimbra in September to start scouting to relocate there. If you have time I would love to take you to lunch and get more details about your experience
That’s interesting. In any case, we’ll start with the grid. It’s a lot easier and literally free. It took a couple of weeks. Apart of course from the monthly payment. I think maybe what we would do it’s still be connected and feed back into the grid once we have a solar system. We’ll look into it!👍
How about water is it accesable? What are you doing with waste? Can you do anything you want on your land or you need premisions e.g. for farming, making airbnb, ect.?
After see the 3 videos i do think if you want to do everything that you describe in the videos, prepare yourselves for more than 75.000€. Be careful and have some portuguese contact the builders, a Portuguese friend or family that speak very good Portuguese, they can rise the price because you are foreign, they think you have lot of money. They even can give you a small price, but going to push for extra costs along way the work. Portuguese people is very friendly, but when money matters, sorry not so friendly... We Portuguese have a saying. "Amigos, amigos, negócios à parte".
Yes that`s true I had a friend who moved to Portugal in 2017 he bought a property needed to do some repairs and was ripped off by the builders, be very careful "Portugal tem muitos vigaristas"
Hi there and congrats for your choice! I have a similar situation re the house and i dont know about the container.where does the water go ? Is it connected to a sewage net or a tank? Thank you for your answer
Miss that country, nazare, porto, coimbra, albufeira...no words on how safe it is, the food, the people, but im lookin at medillin colombia to retire now....closer for me since im from Virginia USA
Medellin Colombia is getting super popular as well. It makes sense to move there and then the rest of Colombia is so beautiful. Amazing, friendly people!
I am a Franco - Australian living in Australia. I know Portugal since 1970, in 2014 I bought a small house in Alentejo a town name Torrao. After a few pots of paints and a new bathroom renovated by a nice guy from the next street I have a lovely nest to go for the culture and ancient history of this beautiful country. I think you have done well, I hope you can do a lot by yourself as portugueses builders are sometimes not very constant with the client. If they have work somewhere else you can wait for them for days or weeks, I have a long experience for this matter. Portugueses ate very friendly just do not pay in advance for buildings matters and ask a quote signed by you and them so you can be advise by your lawyer if a problem occur. Good luck, adeus.
Merci Monique! We will look into it. There are certainly some things that need to be done by a pro but hopefully, we will pick up skills along the way and do many things ourselves. ❤️ Alentejo is gorgeous!
hey, guys. lovely channel. I'm a Portuguese living in London for the past 15 years. funny enough I recognize the petrol station and the area from where you travelled through. Where about in Vila Nova de Poiares are you guys living. I have a house in Olho Marinho and will be there in August.
Our daughter is moving to Porto, Portugal in September....they have been there a few times now.... We will be visiting sometime in December or January. I would appreciate it if you would send a number of video links to properties in Central and upper Portugal with a home in the country that has a nice creek or river on or bordering the property. Thank you!! I am capable of doing some remodeling to the home, especially if it's a beautiful property and located well. I really enjoy your TH-cam videos!
I watched a couple of goats eating brambles - it was incredible - how do they do it? - literally chewed them to pieces, thorns and all - the funniest thing I have ever seen.
Portugal is the best most beautiful country in the world! So small, friendly, beautiful beaches. From hot Algarve with ❤️☺️🌴🌴🌴🏖️🌊⛱️ You will make it! 😎🥂
Oh my....you guys are my heroes as I want to move to PORTUGAL and I also want 2,000 to 3,000 square meters of land. And I also don't have lots of money. So I learned a lot from you.
Go to petrol stations Prio wash your clothes. Because they are a lot more cheaper. I dont know if all petrol stations Prio have this option. But when i want to wash comforters/quilts (they dont fit in my small washing machine at home 6kg max) i wash them there and is a lot more cheaper.
Hi, I am glad I found you. We also left England last autumn and bought a piece of land in Coimbra district. Is the notary from Gois called Neuza? We used her, she is absolutely amazing, so hopeful. Well done, guys. Best of luck with your project!!!
can really related to your story, we are leaving the netherlands for the same reassons, sold our house and rented a house in santarem, moving there 1 march. coimbra is for sure the best feeling area. ponte da sor was nice to.
Hello, iam searching a plot of land and a house in portugal ,i wanted to ask if you could help figure out ,what do i need to be sure of buying the right thing . Thank you Omer

Woah I am so excited. Buying land in Portugal was on my mind for a couple of years now. I fell in love with this country when I first visited Porto in 2015 and then again in 2019 to the Algarve. I just need to be off-grid somewhere in a warm location with friendly people. This year I decided to go for it. I am super low budget but also I want to turn some barren land into an oasis. We'll see. Anyways all the best wishes and lunck to you guys. Curious about your journey going forward!
Go for it mate. It’s going to be hard but rewarding. It’s still early days for us but also with low budget. We are excited and a bit nervous, to be frank. Would love an update once you have settled somewhere. Central Portugal is a good option. It’s a small country and you have all your needs. Also, this area has an abundance of water. Something to keep in mind as the south will have problems in the future. Good luck!
@@TheIndigoEscape Yes I read that. Alentejo and Faro apparently put a full stop on any well drilling! Funny because all the affordable properties are around Catello Branco, so I think that's what I am going for, somewhere in the middle. Yeah super scary on one hand, but we probably have a similar philosophy. Why work for greedy corporations that will fire you as soon as it's profitable for them, when you can use that time to grow your own food and try to build up the soil and improve the land and be as self sufficient as you can. Also free workout and fresh air all day ;D. I am weird like that but becoming a hermit/farmer has been calling to me since I was 18. Now I am 38 so I think it''s about efing time :D
Pawel Kapica Ha! You are Omar’s age! That’s a great philosophy. I think our generation is bound for that destiny as it’s just so unsustainable. Luckily this is what we have always wanted and lockdown really opened our eyes when it came to our priorities. Many people going to Castelo Branco, seems like there is a nice community building up there. It’s very affordable and you have really good builders shops there as well, as I seen from other YTers in the area.
@@TheIndigoEscape Ah, good to hear brother, I am happy for you. Right now I am kinda stuck in England. Selling all the baggage and moving on. Yeah we really are the generation for that.
Hey, can I ask you guys about looking for property. I was checking out pure portugal, but then I thought, they are just another middle man. Is it hard to find a good real estate agent in Portugal. What was your experience.
Hi Andrea and Omar I love your channel and enjoy watching your videos very much. I saw a fig tree very close to one of your buildings; in a video I watched yesterday. You should know that the roots of a fig tree grow very agressivly and will destroy the foundation of any building nearby. Thats why we never have it close to any building in my country. There is even a rede in Turkish : he planted a fig try close to my house. That we use when somebody seems to do something good for you, but actually means to harm you. I wish you the best and keep on the good work.
You are absolutely right! We have tried many times to kill the plant to no avail! We will try again soon but it’s proven to be difficult. What a shame is in such a terrible place. We love figs!
We have many real stone houses that need renovation every were in Portugal many are in Aveiro district I personally have 2 stone houses 1.000 m,2 plus of land .with water ,electricity and phone in the house but not connected Vale de Cambra area.40.000 euros buys it. I admire you for taking the task of renovating your house. All the best. Jose, Sydney Australia.
Thank you Jose. What are you planning to do with your houses? Have you renovated them? Would love to hear what you have done. We can’t wait for lockdown to start easing so we can finally go to Aveiro. It looks beautiful. All the best :)
I done the same in Spain ( Andalusia ) over 10 years ago. In a small town called ( Berja). Why don’t you move your port cabin on the site you bought the house ? Then you can work from home as they say .. get a generator. To use and start the work. .. there must be lots you both can do ...
Hey Ian! Lovely area of Spain! We have 3 more videos after this one where we did exactly that! 😊 Have look here: th-cam.com/video/9EHCo54WR98/w-d-xo.html
Very Good Information. I hope you are almost there to resettling in the beautiful country, i.e. Portugal. Welcome to Portugal! We lived not far from there for just over a year in our hymer when we first came to Portugal in 2008... we looked at a lot of properties too, (but chose land in the Viseu District in the mountains between Aveiro and Viseu)... also very green and beautiful and a lush agricultural area with a wealth of river beaches and only 40 minutes to the coast. One of our criteria was walking distance to town and friends for our son... You have been wise in your choices it seems. You don't say what kind of water source you have on that land though... I have a question. Where did you find someone to insure your car fully comprehensive? I have a nice car I would like to insure better but because it is more than ten years old they won't let me!? A recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks. 🙏✨
Hey Helen! Thank you for your message! Viseu is absolutely gorgeous. We went to see the Arouca bridge and the drive from there to Coimbra was amazing. We have water in our land from the mains actually. It also sits on a water table. We have a water mine every close to us and it fills up every winter. I should really take a walk there to show you guys one day. The insurance company we use is Zurich, we got the insurance at the office in Poiares. It's a fully comprehensive insurance. Give them a call and see what they can do. We have been happy so far with them so we recommend it.
I am thinking of moving to Portugal and getting a property like yours. Farm House that has room for agricultural farm and space for improvement. Nice video.

Very good video guys.
Cars are more expensive in PT but on the other hand insurance and taxes are lower.
That's very true! The insurance here is really cheap compared to England.
I want to see your place once you've done everything. It will be amazing. I hope you give it that little PORTUGUESE old world touch.
Thank you! We want to bring in a lot of traditional Portuguese style :)
Always nice to have a look at persons who decide to start a new life.
When you spoke about lisbon being one of your favorite cities you were showing Porto and the Douro River
I know! An embarrassing oversight! I had added an update on my pinned comment.
Apologies!

Thanks for the advice :)
We have checked out Lousã but not too much due to lockdown. Hopefully things start to open up and we can discover more this area. 🙏🏻
Another portuguese here, adding to what my fellow countryman said. Never pay 100% of the money upfront for any construction/renovation services :) (as a rule of thumb, not just in Portugal)
Don’t assume an expat builder is anymore trust worthy either.
Have to agree with u on that!
Builders are weasels wherever!
Lovely guys! Hope you enjoy Portugal. WELCOME
Thanks Oscar! Such a beautiful country.

What is the estimate cost to fix a property like this? 😊 we’re moving next year and we’re thinking in also buying an old small house. Thanks 😊
Portugal is beautiful , my parents were born there and came to Canada for a better life , Portugal is a good time to buy land especially right now , enjoy and take care of the land and the land will take care of you

bem vindos a portugal...happy for u to choosing such a peacefull & lovely country :-)
Thank you! ❤️
I decided to hit reset and move to Portugal too!
With that property size it pays off to spend some time unrooting the brambles "by hand".
When goats eats all the geen off the brambles(and much of the stalks) the plants cannot photosythesise and they die - GET GOATS!!!

@@TheIndigoEscape yes . I will send you an email. Thank you guys

Thats brilliant Carl thank you! Could send us an email to contact@theindigoescape.com? What a wonderful area !
Hey Ana! That's awesome! We haven't been there, would love to know the area more and visit :D
Hopefully, things quiet down by that time, it should be 🙏 To be honest, it hasn't been easy with lockdown to get tools/materials so might as well wait a bit and actually to things in an easier manner.
We haven't discussed insulation yet but it's a hot topic when renovating, so important as it gets so cold in the winter. We will definitely touch on that when we get there!

If I'm not mistaken, if you put solar panels, you are literally forbidden to disconnect from the grid. Not entirely sure but do look into it
That’s interesting. In any case, we’ll start with the grid. It’s a lot easier and literally free. It took a couple of weeks. Apart of course from the monthly payment.
I think maybe what we would do it’s still be connected and feed back into the grid once we have a solar system.
We’ll look into it!👍

Be careful and have some portuguese contact the builders, a Portuguese friend or family that speak very good Portuguese, they can rise the price because you are foreign, they think you have lot of money. They even can give you a small price, but going to push for extra costs along way the work.
Portuguese people is very friendly, but when money matters, sorry not so friendly... We Portuguese have a saying. "Amigos, amigos, negócios à parte".

Nice video.
Very interesting project can’t wait for you to start rebuilding
Thank you Martyn, that's very kind! We are very excited too! We have lots of ideas!
