I saw NSP in Hawaii a month before my mom and stepdad were killed in a car wreck while driving to my grandmother's funeral. We played Elton John's Candle in the Wind at their funeral. I remember telling her just how much fun I had seeing them to the point it probably annoyed her, lol! I was afraid that sticking with their content would remind me of that awful time- but it's too awesome! It does make me go back to that era, but it also lifts me up from the pain.

This was amazingly directed, in my opinion. The lights and clothing are glamorous, yet the light blurs everything, keeping us from seeing the true images of Danny, Ninja Brian and the Guitar Bros. It kinda shows that there is a glamour and beauty but that is just a sheen over what the actual meaning of the song. Almost all shots with Danny show him alone, either in a corner or with a rather closed off body language in comparison to his usual open, happy style, emphasizing how it is “lonely out in space.” And even though the space is covered in mirrors it’s claustrophobic and tight, lacking in any ability to leave. Maybe I’m reading waaay to into this but hey it’s still an amazing music video.
The original song is about Elton John's Heroin addiction, and his public, and even private persona were not telling the whole story of his pain as he was "High as a kite." Even if this wasn't the exact train of thought, I am sure there was some thought behind the cinematography.

I like how calm and together it feels. Danny's Rocket Man is very stoic, accepting of his fate, compared to Elton John's more mournful tone. In the original, the high notes are all in the backing vocals, which always seemed to me like the Rocket Man's true sorrow pushing past a veneer of calm and professionalism projected by the main vocals, while in this cover all the vocal tracks unite on the high notes; Danny's Rocket Man will not hide the way he feels.

Whenever I think of Rocket Man my first thought was immediately William Shatner's version, but now the version I'll think of is the one where Danny beautifully harmonizes with himself while looking like the world's sexiest cat burglar.
I only knew about Shatner's version because of the Family Guy parody with Stewie lol I hadn't heard how the song was actually sung until years later. Danny's voice really shines here. I love when he sings slower songs like this.

I moved away from home and my family to a new country six weeks after giving birth to my daughter, all while suffering severe postpartum depression. I felt guilty that I was taking special moments away from my parents since this was their first grandchild. Every morning I would wake up with anxiety up to 11, sleep-deprived, drowsy from the medications, very worried about our stuff arriving in good conditions, living in an AirBnb in a strange neighborhood, with the daily thought of everything being easier if I would just die. I would play music every morning to ease my anxiety and my scary thoughts, and one morning, while playing this song and singing it to my daughter, she smiled at me for the first time. I cried tears of joy. The next day, I woke up with no anxiety. Every day was slightly better after that. Now I can't imagine life without her. So I'll keep this cover in my memory always. Man. I've always been extremely picky about covers on songs because usually they mess with the song so much or just don't do it justice. I haven't seen a NSP cover I haven't absolutely loved.
Well. Heat of the moment was changed a lot. They really screwed with the chorus. Although I didn't think it was bad, I just think they made it too upbeat.
I feel like Dan and Brian hold these songs too close to mess with them. I mean if you listen to one episode of game grumps you can tell that these 70's, 80's, and 90's singers are all Dan's heroes and he wants to honor them.
I disagree, personally. There are a lot of terrible covers out there, sure, but my favorite covers are the ones where a particularly talented artist (or group) does change the song to suit them and their style. Saw this live at the Chicago 10th Anniversary show, and Dan's vox plus the gorgeous guitar backing, amidst all the waving lights in the audience, is a genuinely precious moment for me. It's a memory I hold dear, especially in this age where we're all a little lonely.

6 years later and i still come back to this video. Danny puts a sad, haunted heart into this song that Elton John couldn't. it's so moving. and the composition of the music is spectacular. so delicate but powerful.

I'm sorry ninja brian stabbed me.
I moved away from home and my family to a new country six weeks after giving birth to my daughter, all while suffering severe postpartum depression. I felt guilty that I was taking special moments away from my parents since this was their first grandchild. Every morning I would wake up with anxiety up to 11, sleep-deprived, drowsy from the medications, very worried about our stuff arriving in good conditions, living in an AirBnb in a strange neighborhood, with the daily thought of everything being easier if I would just die.
I would play music every morning to ease my anxiety and my scary thoughts, and one morning, while playing this song and singing it to my daughter, she smiled at me for the first time. I cried tears of joy. The next day, I woke up with no anxiety. Every day was slightly better after that.
Now I can't imagine life without her. So I'll keep this cover in my memory always. Thanks Danny.

Man. I've always been extremely picky about covers on songs because usually they mess with the song so much or just don't do it justice. I haven't seen a NSP cover I haven't absolutely loved.

Well. Heat of the moment was changed a lot. They really screwed with the chorus. Although I didn't think it was bad, I just think they made it too upbeat.
I feel like Dan and Brian hold these songs too close to mess with them. I mean if you listen to one episode of game grumps you can tell that these 70's, 80's, and 90's singers are all Dan's heroes and he wants to honor them.
I disagree, personally. There are a lot of terrible covers out there, sure, but my favorite covers are the ones where a particularly talented artist (or group) does change the song to suit them and their style.
Just a different opinion, though. I've loved most of NSP's covers, as well, so we're on the same page there. (:

Saw this live at the Chicago 10th Anniversary show, and Dan's vox plus the gorgeous guitar backing, amidst all the waving lights in the audience, is a genuinely precious moment for me. It's a memory I hold dear, especially in this age where we're all a little lonely.

Elton John's original I could make out every word, but yeah I know what you mean. Half of Micheal Jackson's lyrics are overly stylized gobbledeegook to me. "Pickles with a porn star, can't stop till you get enough!"
This is already the glittering jewel that sits atop the crown that is this cover album. If this is the caliber of song we can expect from their 2nd Under the Covers CD, we're in for a real treat.

There are a few other songs that have the potential to be just as great as this, if done right. This album is going to be incredible.
If you told me I was gonna have a sleep playlist at some point in my life, I would believe you. If you had told me that the first song on the playlist was from a band called Ninja Sex Party, that is the part I would disagree with. But, nevertheless here I am, letting Danny Sexbang sing me to sleep.

I saw the premiere of this video at the NSP live show in Orlando in 2017... thousands of people waving phone flashlights and singing together and feeling this collective appreciation for danny and his voice... it was the most beautiful and healing thing. It made me love humanity. It might’ve saved my life.
