    Awesome tips!
    I have a tip for y'all as well! Drink plenty of electrolytes the day/night before. I am a nurse, and learned to do this when I work, as I might not have the most time to drink/use the bathroom. Drinking something like gatorade zero, allows the body to hold onto more excess water, instead of just pissing it out.
    "Water follows salt!"

      Does that really work? Honestly I never use gatorade, but am not opposed to it!

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn it really does! Doesn't have to be gatorade. Just anything high in salt/electrolytes. Eat a salty meal the morning of is also a good trick!

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn I do roofing and construction. Gatorade is basically what we drink. Yes it absolutely works and what you should drink. If you're waiting until you're thirsty though that's too long. You should be drinking in extreme temps when not thirsty. I've watched alot of dudes get sick af over the years. Like she said salt is important. It helps you retain the water. Fun fact, It was made for the Florida gators football team. They needed something for them in the hot weather. Hence the name gator-ade

    I keep a big bag of 32db foam plugs in my saddle bag. Never get fatigued from wind or exhaust and I can still enjoy the exhaust. For wind protection I have a National Cycle Custom Heavy Duty. It's a tall full width shield and I'm confident that road debris won't hit me. A full face helmet with an internal sunshield prevents sunburns and makes it easy on the eyes.

    I listen to podcasts on long trips, if I think I'm going to be in an area with poor reception I download them before I leave. (My favorite is the Dangerous History podcast, particularly the History of the Whiskey rebellion series and the episode of Joe Rogan where he interviews Dan Aykroyd.)
    Pickle Juice is a better hydration drink than Gatorade. I always carry a bottle because I know someone is going to be dehydrated on long trips and it takes a lot of water to really hydrate someone once they're dehydrated.
    Mediate at rest stops. Not like transcendental breaking the 4th wall and Machine Elves, but to refocus and prepare for the next 200 miles.
    Great episode.

      @FXDLSBrooklyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love it man! I never think to stop and meditate at a rest stop, but I also put in 20 mins in the morning and 20 mins at night.
      As for the pickle juice, I have never heard of this and am intrigued!

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn We use pickle juice in the steel mill to rehydrate ourselves, I rarely see it in stores but it available as a hydration drink. I drink a bottle before marathons so I don't find myself at water stops desperately trying to rehydrate with cramps. I also like that it's natural and doesn't contain artificial sugar or coloring.
      I find that on long trips, especially heading back home when you're barn sour and you just can't seem to feel like you're covering ground, that five minutes of re-centering ones self creates a safer trip and alleviates fatigue.

    Try riding around America on a 750CB Honda? That's what I did in 70s when 750CB was biggest bike in Honda shop. Well upgraded from my 160cc or 250cc! It was a trip of lifetime where movies are made! I have a weigh station on my block, every year I weight bike, bike/rider, bike/rider/gear. This gives me the weight of me an all gear before going over gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). (One year I actually had too lose weight off my body because I couldn't cut weight down anyplace else on bike)! The gals at the scales always ask me how I'm doing on my weight for riding year too year. Doesn't cost anything, an gives me info that could save lives, including my own! Saw you tube channel asking question: can you wheelie on a Harley? Showed a guy 300+ lbs with co-rider. Yeah you can wheelie on Harley with 200+ pounds over loaded on the back end! I'm not sure that's an accurate demonstration? I've been waiting too see if you cover drinking enough water an your doing good job of covering need too hydrate! I try to drink 8 swallows per drink because that a pint for me! An drink plenty before my ride! Bike maintenance is a must before trip, I'm looking into military type water backpack! An take the thick wallet out of your back pocket while riding! Wallet gives me sore butt! I have 03 Dyna that always being worked on. My solution was to buy GL1500 gold wing w/reverse while I'm working on Harley! On Harley I'm doing timing chain pad replacement, new oil pump an plate, new shorty windshield an LED lighting. (It's my eagle bike! On July 28th travelling along Hoods Canal Washington I got white flash in helmet! To my left came eagle forming up 3" from my left hand, stayed there, wind surfing off windshield for over 3min 40 plus seconds from handlebar clock! White truck came at us, an he had too bail, so he turned an flew between my face an helmet an windshield! Throughout his mate was flying 2" off his left wing tip! So I got to ride with matched pair!

    All good tips! I keep telling myself I have to do a long trip. One thing I know I can suggest as a former gear geek from RevZilla, you should look into the Michelin Commander series of tires. They last 20,000+ miles and have some of the best grip on the market for Harley bikes. I had a set of them on my 2011 Super Glide and they were absolutely amazing

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? A lot of my friends with baggers run those tires - That's awesome too, how long were you at Revzilla?

    • @rossw726
      @rossw726 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn I was there for about a year as a gear geek. But yeah you can get the new Commander 3 tires and they say they upgraded the wet weather grip without compromising tread life. I never got the opportunity to to test just how far the tread lasts (got in a major accident before I could) but I can attest to the grip for sure. Wet and dry weather grip was just amazing. For bikes likes yours, I would say it’s crucial to have tires that will give you the confidence you need on the road.

    • @parkersgarage4216
      @parkersgarage4216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I put commander 3 on my softail about a month ago. I'm never buying anything else again. The change in handling blew my mind. It wants to dive into turns effortlessly. The grip is amazing as well. It literally gives at least a 20% increase in handling and turning. I never knew a set of tires could make that much of a difference. I won't buy anything else again. I hear cobra chrome are good but I'd try those if I couldn't get C3 in size I needed.

I haven`t done a big bike ride but talking to some friend of mine who have done it and one of them did from Portugal to Germany (About 2.500 Km/1500 miles) and he did it in two days because he had to get a drink and go to the bathroom everytime he stopped to get fuel.
