Karina, you've created the "gold standard" for sewing pants. I'm sure this series will indeed be referenced by many for years to come. I don't think I'm alone in saying we appreciate your experience and insights. Thank you for this valuable series. ❤️
@@LiftingPinsandNeedlesHi hi Karina. I'm glad that I came across your videos, as I have a pair of pants that my Bestie had made for me some time ago. The first issue with it, is the length of the crotch is way too long for my body. 😢😢 With your gentle voice and charming personality, and clear instructions, I know that I am now able to tackle rectifying that pants, bcuz I can sew. And I am a visual learner, so your little bitty demos are a comforting aid to me. Thank you soooo much for this mini series. I have subbed to your channel. Blessings to you dear, and much love. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤WOW!!!
If there is anything equal to a Tony, Emmy or Grammy in the TH-cam video world; let us all know as you certainly should win the award for your pants series. Even in my college construction classes they did not give this in depth education and knowledge you have provided us with in this "master" series; the best of the Best!! Thank you so much!
Amazing help Karina. You really should write a book on fitting clothes. People will be using your very helpful videos for years. The way your showing how to deal with each trouser fitting problem is so easy to understand. The best fitting tutorial for trousers ever! Thank you 😘
You are a wonderful teacher with lovely voice.I am a beginner and can learn a lot from you . Thanks for making my COVID lockdown time much more pleasant and can do something useful.😊
You are absolutely amazing, having made 5 pairs of awful pants I spent a week watching and rewatching your videos, measuring myself with the help of my husband and altering my pattern. I made my muslin today. It was so much better than anything I have made before. Thank you so very much for making these brilliant videos. I am going to tackle my the top half of my body next.
I previously subscribed to an online pattern drafting course with a ‘prestigious’ American fashion college. However because my shape has more contours they offered no help when asked about drafting blocks for a rounder tummy. Your series is a godsend - Thank you so much for giving your time and putting in so much effort to detailed explanations - I look to be one of many who will greatly benefit, thank you 😊
I have learned so much from you and Dorothy's Daughter on how to adjust pants, that I anticipated what you would do with the calf! I am unreasonably pleased with myself. Thank you for your lessons!
Another amazing video with easy to follow directions. Love how u go into details and explanation as to why you do these fitting changes to your muslin. I have always had a flat butt and thin tighs, 34 " leg and a bit of a tummy. NOW I will have pants that fit! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
Fantastic instructions for accurate sewing of trousers. I am just coming to the end of sewing my first pair. I would have given up a few times if I hadn’t had this video to come back.to. Thank you so much . You have given me the confidence to carry on. Xxxx
This resource is going to be so helpful and I can't wait to try out your suggestions. It has taken the mystery out of what is a tricky item of clothing to fit. Thank you for working to hard for us!
Thank you so much for this series! I learned the mechanics of sewing from a pattern in high school but alterations for fitting have been a mystery to me. Now that I’m a retired teacher I have decided to learn more to fit my slim but menopausal body. Your instructions for the abdomen adjustments are exactly what I needed! You are a natural teacher and I know how much work these fitting videos are to produce!
Thank you so much, I learned a lot about my body from you. Now I understand why non of the standard pants patterns can fit my body, that is because I need flat hip adjustment 😊 I’m new to sewing, but I’m eager to learn how to do it. I love wearing pants but non of my pants fit me properly. So excited to try what I learned from you today ❤️🙏
Excellent explanation of trousers fit issues. It made me smile because 70% of those alterations I had to do on my block. Use it regularly to make different styles but still get caught out using a commercial pattern for a quick make like wide leg, baggy pull on pants, disaster, back crotch curve sits between buttocks and excess fabric pillows at hips.I gave myself a good talking too, no shortcuts😅
I have spent a very interesting afternoon watching this series on pants fitting and alterations. Your detailed instructions and visuals have made understanding the 'mechanics' of fitting/altering very easy. Thanknyou for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into your channel.
Thank you, Karina! Not only are you a terrific sewist, you are a great teacher. Your instructional style is so clear and helpful. And if English is not your first language, WOW! Eager to watch more of your videos!
I’m glad you liked the video. About English: it’s my “second” language in theory because I spoke Spanish first and English came at 6 years old but in practicality, I am trilingual and Spanish, English and Portuguese are at the same level as an adult:) There are over 400 videos here 😉
Thank you for lessons that truly empower and encourage women sewers. It's hard not to feel somehow odd or deformed when commercial patterns just don't fit, or at least that's how I've felt in the past. You're reminding us that with so many variations in sizes and shapes, it would be very rare to have any commercial pattern fit perfectly right out of the envelope. And then you teach us how to fix that pattern for our personal shape. Thank you. 😻😻😻
Jan, I recently watched a vlog by Evelyn Wood and she said something that really stuck with me. The printed tissue patterns were never meant to fit everyone. They were just a starting point for women who (back in the 1880's) all knew how to sew and knew how to alter the pattern to fit. Once I let go of the idea that a pattern would fit me straight away and embraced the fitting process I began to enjoy sewing for myself much more. And I've only been sewing since March!!! You are so right about each of us having a unique shape. Where we get stuck is not knowing how to make those changes. Thank goodness for You Tube and the generous community of sewists who teach and share like Karina. I feel so blessed that I found her early on! Happy sewing ❤️
I’m glad you see my main goal here :) I really want us all to accept our bodies and create a pair of pants that fit us. Thank you so much for your encouragement and kindness.
Hi Denise, I’m so glad you’ve joined this little slice of fitting on TH-cam. It’s true about patterns. There is no way we will fit straight out of a pattern, there’s just so much uniqueness in our bodies for it. That’s why taking it slow and fitting is so worth it.
Hi Karina. Found you thru TomKat Stitchery. This has been a very good series and helped me a lot. I’m trying to make some Resolution yoga pants for my daughter. I’ve torn them apart half a dozen times trying to get the crotch right. I finally had a duh moment a couple days ago and realized I hadn’t shortened the rise like I needed to. Finally got the rise taken care of, now it’s on to getting the huge vertical folds out of the front. Your “scoop” video showed me that I was going the wrong way with the curve. I think I’ll finally get them fitted right come tomorrow. Yay! Thanks!
This has been a great series! I have learned alot that will make it easier for me when making my pant. I don't have a calf problem but I do have a protruding abdomen and I hadn't seen an adjustment that made sense to me, plus they were very complicated and your examples and explanations made much more sense to me and were understandable. Thank you so much!
You are a genius when it comes to sewing! I have wider than normal calves and hate it when I stand up from a sitting position and have to push down the calves of my pants! Oh my goodness, I am so happy to have watched this series! And abdominal troubles, yes I also have that too. Thank you so much for all of your time and effort you have given to us!! I truly appreciate it! I am saving this series to refer back to when I sew my pants. Thank you, thank you so much. I am so glad I stumbled upon your site. ❤️❤️❤️
Karina, I have been trying to fit myself for pants for years. I am very tall, thin thighs, round tummy, resulting in too short rise, tightness in high hip, pouches of extra fabric in crotch area. I have just watched your entire series on fitting pants and you have given me a thorough understanding of how to correct the fitting problems I keep having. Thank you so much! I will start a new muslin right away, but first I am going to ‘buy you a couple of cups of coffee’. Have to figure out how to do this. I am so grateful. Yours are the sewing videos I watch the most.
I appreciate this series so much. I hit a point where retail is not working well for me at all, and I have become frustrated trying to fit my apple shape. Thank you so much for making this series. I will be trying pants very soon.
Thank you Karina. I think I understand now why the thighs of my pants are always so big. I have to make a full seat adjustment on all my patterns. I am going to try these tips.
Hi Karina I have watched these 6 tutorials over and over and I am about to give it a go I have bought a very cheap sheet to use as a muslin I’m nervous but looking forward just to see if I can do it. I did the camisole armhole adjustment and I am delighted, you are so inspiring thanks for all your good work.
Katrina, I have recently found your channel and I want to thank you so much for all the work you've put into this series and your other videos! You are such a great teacher.
Hi Karina. Finally watched episode 6. This whole series has been unbelievably helpful. I am now able to understand what to do. Now time to put it into action. Thanks to you, I am confident. Thank you
Thank you so much for this series. You've worked very hard but it's so full of great information. I've learned so much. Hopefully from now on my pants will fit well.
This is a masterpiece in teaching for the sewer. I have many sewing books and none have ever given me this information that I understood or could use. Thank you. I like following your thinking and your skills. These are the tools that that have been kept secret for many.
This series has been a great reference set of videos. Thank you so much Karina. Your teaching style is wonderful because it is simple and easy to follow. I have been going back to your first videos and working my way through them. (The ones when you had short hair :) xxx
This series has helped me so much because I have almost the opposite problem. Although I've always been thin, as I've got older I want pants/jeans to disguise my skinny legs. I find it nigh impossible to buy ready made that are not cut for a tight fit. Thank you so much for all the work and thought you put into this series.
So many fantastic things I learned, but you know one that stuck with me??? It's silly, but you mentioned you found some fabric for your muslin out of (I think) thrifted curtains. I'm always worried about finding cheap fabric for muslins....stores charge a lot. But a thrift store? It's perfect ! Cheap prices for lots of used sheets, tablecloths and curtains. Brilliant !!!
Best explanation of a full tummy adjustment I have ever seen. THANK YOU. Now I have a curvy center seam, but what should I do with the pocket bag behind it? Keep it straight by cutting on the fold OR create a center seam which matches the tummy curve. It's about a 1/2" difference.
It is amazing, thank you so much I haven't sewn a pant out of fear but this your tutorial of fitting gave me assurance that I will succeed and that I shouldn't fear any more . Thank you so.... much . Please do you have skirt waist adjustment/ fitting as well I really need it as a beginner too. God bless you
Just a teeny request for a future pants video - knock knees. I understand there is an adjustment that can be done to help the pant legs fit legs that simply don't go straight down. Thank you again for this series - I have saved the playlist and just know I will refer back to it EVERY time I attempt a pair of pants. Hopefully I will have more success than in the past. J
I like this little diagram you can see in this post. It’s basically lengthening the inseam a tad and shortening the side seam. This shifts the shape of the pants to the side to match the shape of the legs :) pin.it/72PZA9d
I am laughing so hard! I have watched the whole series and am going through for the second time…I have pants that have all these problems in my closet right now! I didn’t make them, but it’s scaring me to death to make my own, but I’m diving in with a pair of shorts first. Thank you so much for these videos! They have helped me see what issues cause what problems. Eager to try out the adjustments.
You’re definitely creating a valuable resource with longevity. Thank you! Small add-on: if add two more horizontal cut lines towards the side seam (not through!) from the same point where you start the two diagonal lines you can pivot the lower leg pieces back to keep the seam line straight and on the cross grain. 💕
Yes. I know that adjustment. I wanted to keep it simple for this series aimed at beginners. The videos are already so jam packed with information. I will continue building on these topics when I show pant videos :)
Lifting Pins and Needles They’re definitely packed with lots of good info! Understand the choice. As I said no critic, just an add-on. And just making a comment to promoot the spread of your videos. 💕
Karina, this was a fabulous mini series…thank you from me and so many followers…I have always been afraid of tackle pants..I am going to give it a try..❤️❤️❤️❤️
Katrina, This was the greatest lesson! You should rename it; "Butt Sculpting"! This is what I need after home made bread and 4 months of covid isolation. XOX
Karina 🤗 thank you for this information. You have covered a lot of useful information in a very concise but logical way. Your visuals are very helpful. Well done👏👏👏
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. How much ease must I allow for sitting and not splitting open. Low tummy fat is the problem 🫣
I had a total AHA! experience watching you do and explain the "flat seat adjustment". I've seen something similar before but never understood it as clearly as now :) As always can't thank you enough for all your tutorials :)
Thank you so much. I appreciate your Videos. My Problem ist that i have to go through 3 sizes to adjust pants pattern for me. I did not find any help about that. I hope you could address this in the Future.
Thank you, Karina, for this wonderful series. You are a great teacher and I appreciate all your pants fitting ideas. I am working on my pants now. I echo one other person's suggestion of the knock-knee fitting issue. Can you please show us your recommendation on how to fix this issue. Also, down the road can you show us ways to change up the pants - in particular - I've liked many of the Noracora pants ideas at the ankle. If anyone can make doing these techniques easy, it's you. Stay well and again, thank you for this wonderful pants fitting series.
I found this diagram perfect for knock knees. It’s about adding length to the inseam and taking away some from the side seam to get the shape of the pant to tilt. There are so many pant adjustments and I would needed twice as many episodes to cover them all. You can see the diagram here pin.it/10nwomL About changing pants up, I do that all the time and of course will show down the road how to add details. Although, making “creative” videos is a tad unmotivating, because whenever I do, I know very few people will watch them. I’ve proven this over and over.
yes was hoping for this one thank you karina these adjustments to the patern its what scares me most ive sewed before just out of the pattern if the pants were to big on the rise i would just roll them up lol now i need to learn to sew the proper way and with a teacher like you i think ill make it yet do we start our muslin now?
This is what I was looking for, thank you Karina but…what about that excess fabric at thigh level as you showed? Is there a video to solve that? Thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What do you do when you it looks like you have extra fabric on the back of your pants below the knee. I'm working on some Sabrina Slim's and I have some wrinkles below my knees. I'm doing the pants that have the seam down the back.
The Sabrinas have a notch to reference the knee and I’d make sure that matches your knee placement in the muslin first. It also depends on the type/look/direction of the wrinkles. A stretch woven pant takes a different approach to these looser woven ones.
This series has been very helpful. I am still working on my pants. I found that my legs are much narrower than the pattern for my waist and hips. I narrowed the leg on the side seams for the front and back pant legs. I still have a lot of extra fabric in the back leg. The front leg is ok. What do I do about the excess fabric in the back legs?
Very informative. I have a problem that is not shown in this series. I have a good fit in waist, hips & crotch length, however at the back mid thigh there is about 3-4 inches of excess fabric goin around the back. How do I fix that??
Another wonderful info filled video. This series is wonderful and so helpful. I have shied away from Patreon but may have to join. You are very helpful with great visual aides and I appreciate it very much. Have you talked about twisted leg? When the pants migrate around your leg, for me towards the center. I do not recall seeing it but after watching this series it may correct with a better depth adjustment.
The leg twisting can be related to the pattern itself not being balanced to hit at the middle of the leg. Also, the grainline marked on some patterns is not actually on the grainline. Or the pieces could be cut slightly off grain not purposely.
I have a protruding tummy and the pants is pulling at the crotch when I tried to walk. If I open up the top front pants pattern to make adjustments for the tummy, do I still have to add more at the crotch to control the pulling at the front of the pants when walking?
My front thigh bows out and feels tight (and is tight at the knee) but my back thigh is smaller has excess material although I have a large bottom perhaps droopy! So is it crazy to add to the front crotch and take away from the back? Thanks so much! Yes, your videos have been a boost!
Not crazy at all. We have our unique shape and if your legs need that, it’s the right thing to do. Add at the front and remove at the back. As long as it feel comfortable for you :)
What about thighs that are full in the front, but also come together for several inches when standing up straight? Not quite knocked kneed, but chubby thighs.
Amazing tutorial series! I’m anxious to revamp my pants patterns. Do you have a video that addresses the excess fabric on the thighs in jeans or stretch fabric?
I don’t focus my content on altering ready made garments bought in the shops. The excess in the thighs is shown in this video. It’s the same concept for stretch fabrics.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles thanks for your reply. I wasn’t referring to ready mades. I’ll watch again and find where I missed it. I know wovens need more space than knits in the back thighs. I’ll watch again. Enjoy the time with your family.
Thank you so much Karina for this video, I’m in the middle of trying to make my very first pair of blue jeans with a zipper fly and just about ready to give up until I seen your video, is the adjustment done the same way with a the zipper fly in the front? Here’s were I’m really confused, in the general measurements for my waist I’m at a 16W for my waist, 14 Misses for my hips so I’m really struggling on where to start with this pattern not knowing what to do exactly. Would you recommend starting with the 16W or would you cut a size smaller like the 18 Misses and do this tummy adjustment to add more room in the waist and tummy area and grade from there? any advice you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you so much for these pant tutorials keep up the good work your videos are awesome they really help. Tammy
Hi Karina. I am working on this series this week to help me. I have my measurements table. The back CL is OK. The front CL is 12" on the pattern, 13" on the body giving a difference of 1" plus the quarter inch ease. This means I have to add an inch and a quarter. How should I best do this? I have got to the Video 5 protruding abdomen - would this be the best way or another? Thanks for your help.

This series has helped me so much because I have almost the opposite problem. Although I've always been thin, as I've got older I want pants/jeans to disguise my skinny legs. I find it nigh impossible to buy ready made that are not cut for a tight fit. Thank you so much for all the work and thought you put into this series.
Another great video! This series will help so many people , thank you for your hard work.
I’m glad you liked it :)
It makes it all worth it :)
Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. Mary
You are so welcome
Wow - well done series!
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you cant wait to put all your advice into practice. Your videos are very explanatory and make it easy to understand. Thank you !!
All the best with your pant journey 😄
So many fantastic things I learned, but you know one that stuck with me??? It's silly, but you mentioned you found some fabric for your muslin out of (I think) thrifted curtains. I'm always worried about finding cheap fabric for muslins....stores charge a lot. But a thrift store? It's perfect ! Cheap prices for lots of used sheets, tablecloths and curtains. Brilliant !!!
Fantastic lesson 👍 I've learned so much from you
Glad to hear it!
More wonderful instructions and examples. Thank you so much.
God bless you
Great pants series, you definitely did your homework and a big “yes” to pants fitting being a process. Thanks
They sure are and then we don’t need to do this with many patterns. A few basics are enough :)
Hi i love the way you explained very clear and slowly i can follow you thank you very much
That makes me very happy :)
Thanks Karina, this info is a wealth of information!!! These are vlogs I will come back to time, and time again! Thanks a bunch!💜
Thank you karina as always full of great information and well explained.
Glad it was helpful!
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thanks Karina - i'll try that on the next pair.
Is this for what adjustment? I showed four in the video.
Lifting Pins and Needles Ah sorry with me correcting the flow of the sentence (not a native speaker) I took that out: the calf adjustment.
Episode 6 for the win. Another great pants fitting video. This is very helpful. Thank you!
Very good explanation - clear, understandable and detailed. Thank you
Karina, this was a fabulous mini series…thank you from me and so many followers…I have always been afraid of tackle pants..I am going to give it a try..❤️❤️❤️❤️
Katrina, This was the greatest lesson! You should rename it; "Butt Sculpting"!
This is what I need after home made bread and 4 months of covid isolation.
XOX
ha ha for sure! I've been home for over 4 months already, and it shows.
Karina 🤗 thank you for this information. You have covered a lot of useful information in a very concise but logical way. Your visuals are very helpful. Well done👏👏👏
I’m glad they help :)
Another great video
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. How much ease must I allow for sitting and not splitting open. Low tummy fat is the problem 🫣
I had a total AHA! experience watching you do and explain the "flat seat adjustment". I've seen something similar before but never understood it as clearly as now :) As always can't thank you enough for all your tutorials :)
Thank you now the belly should no longer be a problem in my pants fit. ♥️☕
Thank you SO much! This has been very, very helpful. I can hardly wait to try these ideas out.
Have fun!
Amazing explanation, wonderful series, I have learned so much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! 💚💚💚
Thank you so much. I appreciate your Videos. My Problem ist that i have to go through 3 sizes to adjust pants pattern for me. I did not find any help about that. I hope you could address this in the Future.
As always: a fantastic tutorial ! Thank you so much for all you share with us.
You can see the diagram here pin.it/10nwomL
About changing pants up, I do that all the time and of course will show down the road how to add details. Although, making “creative” videos is a tad unmotivating, because whenever I do, I know very few people will watch them. I’ve proven this over and over.
Thank you so much! I feel prepared to begin my muslin 😃
Love your tutorials, thank you so much, haven’t made any pants yet, just watching and learning. Thank you❤️
There’s no rush :) when you’re ready you’ll love it :)
This was a very informative video. Thank you very much
Awesome! Thanks sooo much for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️
yes was hoping for this one thank you karina these adjustments to the patern its what scares me most ive sewed before just out of the pattern if the pants were to big on the rise i would just roll them up lol now i need to learn to sew the proper way and with a teacher like you i think ill make it yet do we start our muslin now?
For sure you can go ahead. I think I’ve covered what these types of pants need :)
All the best and feel free to message me on patreon as you need 😊.
Very clear explanation ..my kid is putting her elastic pants below the tummy...so lots of fitting issues..how do I really modify the pattern..?
I feel like I should of had a pencil and paper w me 😂. This was great. I'm going to check your other videos in this mini series. Thank you 💛
Wow this is so helpful
I’m glad it helped :)
Great series...
Great information but what if there is a fly front zipper? Will this throw off the center front? Thank you so much for sharing 😋
Excellent! Thank you!
You’re very welcome 😉
This series has been very helpful. I am still working on my pants. I found that my legs are much narrower than the pattern for my waist and hips. I narrowed the leg on the side seams for the front and back pant legs. I still have a lot of extra fabric in the back leg. The front leg is ok. What do I do about the excess fabric in the back legs?
Very informative. I have a problem that is not shown in this series. I have a good fit in waist, hips & crotch length, however at the back mid thigh there is about 3-4 inches of excess fabric goin around the back. How do I fix that??
I think your videos are really helpful. My problem is "knocked knees, I have very thick knees at the inseam. Do you have any suggestions?
This is great! When you have the tummy adjusted do you lengthen the back piece on the hip for the added height of the front?
If you watched you’ll see that the adjustment only changes the Center front and not the side seam. No need to change the back.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles I am a member of Patreon and am grateful for the knowledge you share.
Then you would probably need to add to the crotch extension both in the front and in the back to accomodate for the thigh volume all the way around.
Can you tell us what pattern you used for the linen pants you wore in the abdomen demo-flat front & elasticated back waistband? ❤️
The summer caye pants from Love Notions. I made a video about them :)

Thank your for this!
