I remember back in the early 90's working on a TV show called American Detective with Dean. I was playing 2nd guitar to his 1st. I was setting up still when his cartage guy was there setting up and accidentally fried his Bradshaw pedal board that controlled everything. So Dean did the whole session with just a borrowed Mesa Boogie combo and a slide he borrowed from me. He sounded amazing. Great player.

Don't forget this guy is a big hero on Steely Dan classic albums like Aja and all the other brilliant stuff that was done in the late 70ies and then some. Also clearly note that he was responsible for the lick (not the solo. I repeat NOT THE SOLO) but he was responsible for the groove lick on Beat It by Michael Jackson (Quincy Jones my main hero...) Steve Lukather apparently did the other part of the riff....
Session players always get so little credit.

Totally agree! Once as the Rolling Stone magazine put it, session musicians are the unsung heroes of the music industry. Parks, Lukather, Landau, Ritenour, Carlton, Graydon, etc...these guys are part of the L.A elite of studio guitarists, that as you said it, don't know why they don't get enough recognition. It's a real mystery to me.

Doing the beat it stuff? I know he did sone guitar parts. But not on beat it…
