I Bought His Dad’s Train Store… (Part 1)

- Welcome to part 1 of my biggest train haul yet! I was fortunate enough to get a call asking that I come check out the inventory of a model train store that was sold off almost a decade ago. In this multi-part series, we’ll take a look at what I managed to acquire for my own store!
Cadence’s Rail Yard
2090 Fairview Blvd
Fairview, Tennessee
Open 10-5 Mon-Sat, 12-4 Sun
Located inside of Old Towne Antiques - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The first box does have some custom painted cars. I can see the decal film which gives it away. If you get a custom painted car real close to the light, you can see the decal film. Regular factory painted cars use ink pad graphics that are printed on the car similar to silk screening items. This means that no decal film will ever be seen.
Also, I believe the New Haven F unit in the Lionel box looks to be a rubber band drive F7 from Athearn. If it was out of the box, then the bottom side could be seen, but I do remember some of the early rubber band drives coming in the New Haven paint scheme.
Really cool haul. I am from the Knoxville area and probably visited that store when it was in operation. My wife and I recently visited your store and were thoroughly impressed. Great selection and great pricing! We recently drug out my old HO sets and started running them on a newly constructed table. Looks like after 35 years, I am back in the hobby (the grandson is a big incentive). Love your store and business model. Looking forward to shopping again soon. I am always interested in Shay engines if you run across good models. Keep up the great work!
Great haul.
Yup. You definitely need a bigger store! Nice haul! 🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚂
Thanks so much for watching!
Your labels can give you a clue as to whether or not they might be custom cars for that shop. Some shops would place orders for custom models to sell exclusively. Technically those are flat cars, a flatbed is an OTR trailer.
Great stuff, fun to watch. You got an easy going way about you that will do well here on TH-cam!
Thank you so much for watching and for the kind words!
Wow, so much stuff, cant wait to see more
Holy cow. What a haul. I guess that explains a lot! LOL! I agree with the other comment. You're definitely going to have to get a bigger store. That is some awesome stuff. I can't wait to see the rest.
What an incredible haul! OMG!!! 👍😎
fantastic find!
New Haven F-Unit is in the correct box- it was from Lionel's 1958 HO product line, which was produced by Athearn. It should have a Hi-F drive assuming it's never been modified. Tricky to locate original Lionel ones in their original box. Athearn sold identical ones under their own name. The Lionel ones are all supposed to have a tiny little Lionel logo stamped on the side, but some apparently did get sold in Lionel boxes without the stamp. Yours definitely has the stamp though! They also sold a dummy B and dummy A units. Lionel sold athearn F-units in 3 other road names- B&O, D&RGW, and Milwaukee Road.
Almost all of the items Athearn produced for Lionel carry a "prototypical" number instead of the Lionel catalog number, which can make identification confusing. The New Haven powered A was cataloged as 0533, with the dummy B being 0543 and dummy a 0553.
Lionel only cataloged these locomotives one year, so they're tough to find, but Lionel collectors generally aren't interested in any of Lionel's HO products. It definitely has a cult following though. I started collecting the Lionel postwar HO line a couple years ago, the rolling stock is pretty good quality but most of the locomotives present unique repair challenges.
They are called re-railers in American Flyer Circles ;)
Always fun watching you open treasure chests.
Thank you so much for watching, John!
Keep these videos coming!!
Thank you so much for watching!
Take another look at the Santa Fe F7 warbonnet at 14:10. It looked like an Athearn to me, not a Tyco. Great haul for your store!
Thanks so much for watching! You're correct, Athearn bluebox upon closer inspection
You're in Fairview? I'm in Gallatin so I definitely need to make a trip to your store! Looks like some great stuff there! - Brian
I finally get by your store 2 weeks ago and now looks like I was still a bit early! Now another reason to get your way again.
That sounds like a plan to me! Thank you so much for stopping by!
Damn, this is crazy!
Nice haul. Looking forward to seeing them in your store. UPDATE: Nice to meet you at your store on Friday. I picked up the L & N car (shown at 28:06) and one other. Looking forward to Part 2 (will probably be another drive from Manchester...LOL).
It was so great to meet you, John! Thanks again for making the drive up!
Wow!
I just wanted to let you know that in the athirin old blue boxes with unassembled cars the ones with the white parts envelopes are older than the ones with the yellow parts envelopes and
