Seriously guys. Protect your ears! This game will ruin your hearing if you turn up your volume too loud to hear those quiet footsteps! Using this program will protect that hearing...I wish I started using it earlier. TIP: Like i said, don't set the limit too low! Use this to remove the loud sounds because if you set it too loud the game wont sound properly!
At certain levels would this not effect your ability to hear directional sound if it's putting a ceiling on the louder sounds? Your video itself demonstrates this when it levels out the sound where it would be louder in the right channel than the left channel
I once played a round and the entire time, it was quiet. Then, after I heard some footsteps it all literally goes fucking nuts, my ears were literally about to die.
I've been using this for probably a year and half now and I can highly recommend it, but i just want to clarify something you said. It does in fact reduce the quieter sounds as well (sometimes). It's simply a dynamic limiter that instantaneously reduces your windows sound volume when any sound goes over the threshold you set - it does not compress the sound unlike voicemeter banana. This means when you hear a sound that would normally go above your red line, it turns the entire system volume down to keep that loud sound under, but in doing so temporarily reduces all sounds including footsteps. The take away from this is that when you are being bombarded with loud sounds (red zone, full auto guns), it will be harder to hear footsteps. Still a fantastic little program.
The other option is to use a compressor...but will compressors mess up the distance of the footstep sounds? Since far and close footstep sounds are all compressed together with the gunfire.
This is great. In PUBG, you are afraid of taking damage... it's not the fear of losing health though, but getting scared half to death as your character oofs so hard after taking a couple points of damage that it damages you physically more than the character. This will help a lot to bring a bit more "playability" back without sacrifice either your ears or being able to hear footsteps. Cheers WJ you legend.
Be sure to turn the limiter mode to master in settings! This should make it so limits both channels at the same time & by the same amount which should mean no negative effects on stereo
@@jindris5097 Same here.. especially after smoking weed, I like to just run around.. but when I've been running in the middle of nowhere for a little while, zoned out.. then all of a sudden " *OOF* " getting shot, the character yells so loud, it always makes my heart jump.

Yup! And this guys is how an audio compressor/limiter works. Once a signal goes over a threshold it will be attenuated by a certain amount of decibels. This seems to be a pretty decent comp/limit algorithm since there's no funky weird pumping/breathing as in other programs.
I never played pubg without an audio compressor because of the insanely loud gunsounds. My soundcard has a feature (creative soundlblaster x-fi) called svm (smart volume management) which reduces the volume of loud sounds and increases the volume of quiet sounds. It makes it harder to hear enemies because the stereo is not correct. If the right ear is louder, it wont change the left ear, so the stereoeffect is gone
This is only for very loud sounds, other sounds like footsteps won't be affected at all. So if someone is shooting so close to you that the limiter kicks in and you don't know already where he is, you were dead anyway!
get a good sound card and you can activate the Smart Volume Monitor, or SVM. It's so cool, if you're standing still the volume gets louder and you can hear everything around you, and as soon as you fire the volume goes down immediately and it protects your hearing. it's really cool.
I think whats happening is, when sound gets limited from lets say right channel but not left channel because left channel limit has not been reached: right channel gets limited but left channel is still the same but if left channel had gotten quieter proportional to the right channel you would not be thinking there is a problem with sound clarity. its not a clarity issue, it just gets quieter.

It would be like playing in mono for loud gunshots. Look up how to set up a sound compressor with VoiceMeter banana for a better alternative.

yeah, you'd have a completely different playstyle once you get used to soundlock, i've tried banana and it works well, but the delay that comes with it, is dangerous in close quarter combat because sometimes there is a delay in pubg sound already as well. in open field you are at such a disadvantage but in city fights, you can hear every step
ALL Games should have this feature...just as they have warnings for flashing lights/images that may introduce epileptic seizures...Protect your hearing, once its gone...it does not come back!
Holy moly WJ, about 3 years too late, but better late than never. Love your videos, more power to you. Why the hell hasn't bluehole hired you as a dev or QA puzzles me to no end.
The guns where being fired from the right side of the character of jacky. That's why the right bar was higher in the video, the program balances out the sound through out left and right.
@@_Zardari_ It is quite obvious in the video that it does NOT do that. If the sound in the right channel is louder than the bar, but not the left, it would only reduce the right bar, thus making it sound like the gunshot came either more in front or more behind you, instead of the actual direction. I would never use this program. It also messes with hearing how close people are - people shooting guns closer than like 50 meters are all gonna sound the same. Not great in my opinion.
@@madsroccato9644 you're right this software is actually Garbage.I recommend using voicemeter banana as it 'compresses' your audio meaning the low sounds and the high sounds are balanced out a bit so the gun sounds will be overall lower and footsteps will sounds a bit clearer while protecting your ears from the terrible sound design of this game. I've been using this software for a while now and I saw a decent improvement in my gameplay.
May be you guys are right but wacky would have explained the cons of it. As he seems okay with it. And yes i do also use voice banana meter, using its compression to reduce the higher sounds and higher the lower sounds. But i don't have a decent hardware to play pubg steam. I play it's lite version which is a mess and the worst sound of all BRs.
I like the idea, but It can mess up the understanding of shot distance. In your example as well, the location of grazza sound was very very difficult , and in game, you would have thought that the enemy is pretty far away, and could have died pushing him. Anyway, im installing and trying this, to find perfect settings :)
@@calholli yeah in all honesty this program is good for lowering max Db but you could also get a program like voicemeeter where you can raise bass to hear footsteps and lower treble for gunshots etc
Let me just clear some questions: No this wont affect your ability to guess distanced based on sound, unless you consider it important if an enemy is 5 or 20m away. Either way, once he is so close and you cant see him youre most likely dead anyways. Also this shouldnt and cant be considered cheating, since it doesnt give an unfair advantage, it simply gives you a health advantage. Also this is possible to do with hardware in case you got a fancy DAC. This simply allows people who want to spend less money on hardware to have similar effects. So IMHO that a good option that should be considered by more people.
I can see this working, however from the examples you gave it will be harder to know if a guy is 5 meters away from you or 20 meters away, as the sound caps out at some point
@@kuwakwak i understand that. But that was the point I was making. Shots from right in front of you will sound the same as shots from 20 metres (or more depending on your settings) away.
There's only one problem with this method. It does not reduce the left and right channel individualy. You can hear it in the video that the sound goes from the right headphone, to almost centre when he presses the button. Try it yourself in a youtube left/right test video.

yeah, you'd have a completely different playstyle once you get used to soundlock, i've tried banana and it works well, but the delay that comes with it, is dangerous in close quarter combat because sometimes there is a delay in pubg sound already as well. in open field you are at such a disadvantage but in city fights, you can hear every step
The best guide and program I really need ,thanku sir
ALL Games should have this feature...just as they have warnings for flashing lights/images that may introduce epileptic seizures...Protect your hearing, once its gone...it does not come back!
Holy moly WJ, about 3 years too late, but better late than never.
Love your videos, more power to you.
Why the hell hasn't bluehole hired you as a dev or QA puzzles me to no end.
3 minutes for a 10 seconds needed for explain this simple program
nice, no more jumping out of the chair because of some loud guns shooting at me....
but what about the left and right sound ratio, after a level it will be same.
That's not how stereo works....
May be you guys are right but wacky would have explained the cons of it. As he seems okay with it.
And yes i do also use voice banana meter, using its compression to reduce the higher sounds and higher the lower sounds.
But i don't have a decent hardware to play pubg steam.
I play it's lite version which is a mess and the worst sound of all BRs.
you are a legend this is such a good program, thanks wacky
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I'm looking for...
“It’s a
*voice cracks* FrEE
Program”
lol
But thank you honestly I need this and appreciate your content!
I like the idea, but It can mess up the understanding of shot distance. In your example as well, the location of grazza sound was very very difficult , and in game, you would have thought that the enemy is pretty far away, and could have died pushing him. Anyway, im installing and trying this, to find perfect settings :)
Also if a sound is close to your right, this program will just cut down on the right channel and make it sound like he is in front/behind you.
@@madsroccato9644 yeah,exactly
Yeah I agree with you mate.
You'll have to relearn sounds obviously... but you'll get used to it again.
@@calholli yeah in all honesty this program is good for lowering max Db but you could also get a program like voicemeeter where you can raise bass to hear footsteps and lower treble for gunshots etc
Hey, it works better if you right click sound locker icon and go to settings, filter mode and set it to master.
Very helpful trick thx bro
I wanted this for so long! Thank you!!!
Let me just clear some questions:
No this wont affect your ability to guess distanced based on sound, unless you consider it important if an enemy is 5 or 20m away.
Thanks buddy,, you saved a life.. Literally of my ears.
It may confuse the distance of enemy..??!!!
It might if u set the bar too low
Just set it at the right level...all we want is to get rid of the deafening soung of guns up close... that's what gonna fuck us all up in the ear
confused about the distance is better than frustrated about deafness
I can see this working, however from the examples you gave it will be harder to know if a guy is 5 meters away from you or 20 meters away, as the sound caps out at some point
as you could see steps didnt cap out only the loud shots did
@@kuwakwak i understand that.
So Wacky is from Denmark according to the taskbar
The fact that pubg needs such a third party program says a lot about the level of its sound design...
Thanks bro you save my ears
