I love this about him. It reminds me a lot of my little boy. They have so many interesting things to say, stories to tell you, facts, ideas etc... they're great characters and wonderful to converse with.

I think one thing should be made clear: Ethan's way of pronouncing the "r" does not just sound like a speech impediment to Italian people, but it's usually associated with posh, high-end and possibly spoiled (as a stereotype) people. In fact in this scene here: 01:40 Damiano is not mocking Ethan at all. Although he's speaking with the "V" instead of the R, he's just impersonating the stereotype of a spoiled prima donna. It has nothing to do with Ethan. On the other hand, in a couple of scenes he only does the "V" because he is in fact making an impression of Ethan, but not to mock him, just because 02:31 he was reporting something Ethan said to him (and which in itself lead to a joke, but had nothing to do with his pronunciation) and 02:38 sitting down at the drums and taking time, because he didn't feel confident playing them.

As a person who speaks russian and romanian and can't pronounce the letter 'r' I can relate 😅 During my lifetime I was asked by sooo many people to say a word with 'r' in it they were laughing, but in a friendly way :) It used to upset me as a kid, but now I think it's just a cute thing and people think so too :) P.S. Ethan is a precious baby. We must protect him at all costs

At least they are upfront with each other instead of letting things simmer underneath as I have often done so in the past because I wasn't given a voice. I love these guys and Ethan seems like such a sweetheart! I totally get the joking around though. Where I'm from in the UK, it's often said that our accents sound like pirates, so when one of us drops a particularly heavy R or a heavily accented word, we'll always laugh and joke about it, especially in a friend/family group.
This one was lots of fun and very cute but also quite informative!! I'm from Argentina, and we have the same types of "r" sounds, but I hadn't noticed how Ethan pronounces them at all before this. And now I'm starting to realize that it is probably because we don't roll them so much in certain positions. When the "r" comes between two consonants or before a consonant, we seem to pronounce it much less than you! So, when i say "diverso da loro", for example, I sound like Ethan in the first half and like a (kind of) normal Italian person in the second!! :D This has been super helpful! Thanks a lot!!

I can roll my Rs if I speak slowly but it's so much harder to do it in a sentence when trying to speak fast, especially if there are both single rs and double rs to pronounce. As an italian, I’d say they sound more like someone who has a really strong lisp😂 however, it does depend on how you pronunce the R if you don’t roll it. Ethan doesn’t say it at all, but most people who can’t roll it say it like a french person would. It’s definitely noticeable if you don’t roll your “R”s but as long as you pronunce the other letters correctly, people will understand you! (Btw, I think a common mistake is to place your tongue right behind your teeth when it’s actually supposed to be further away😉)

Im learning Italian through their lyrics and interviews and I must say I got the (r) down quite well I believe - Especially parrrrla), but what almost kills my tongue in "morirò da re". When I sing it slowly no problema but if I sing it quick I make a (d) sound. So I must aim for a (v) and maybe people will still think I'm Italian :D As the listeners will be German, I hope they won't even notice :D
